  1. That might work for somebody with a lot of patients but since I have none it doesn't even feature in the equation. Next year they'll just change that and give less points but tell everybody that it's far better. I'm also pretty sure that they've crunched some numbers and confirmed that an "x" amount of members will leave before the 5 years are up and loose their points. We've gone from 1 x smoothie a week to 1 x cup of coffee every 3 weeks.
  2. Ja no they've screwed us good and proper - AGAIN !!! Even when they converted from the old points system to the Miles they screwed us out of a pile of money. There was way more value (for us) in the previous points system.
  3. Thanks for the pages number and a button to go back to the 1st page Would post a picture here but copying and pasting pictures doesn't work, maybe in development
  4. Speak to Keith, he's done like 20 of them. Maybe he has some info for you
  5. You still a machine !! I bombed at Shova and you had a good race even though you rode down. I had a good 94.7. This year the hills didn't feel too bad. I remember last year going up Hyde Park and suffering, this year it was over so quickly. Needed this result to build some confidence again. Shova was crap (for me), Carnival was seriously tough so this time it was 3rd time lucky
  6. But coffee rides with your mates are lekker. One day when I'm strong enough to keep up with you I'll join you for a coffee ride. Did you drink enough ? (I don't mean tequila the night before)
  7. Just shave your legs, arms, etc - you'll be more aero and much faster.
  8. I've also done that Virgin trick but normally I park in the shopping center parking and walk. Did you remember to get my number ? (your house is a lot closer than the Dome ?)
  9. Still a bit early. Wait for this afternoon.
  10. Received the same message via WhatsApp. Suppose that we'll only only if it's true on Saturday / Sunday.
  11. Great stuff. You have to embrace the mobile devices otherwise you'll become forgotten. Personally I think it would be great if you could publish the useless data stats (what phone, OS, etc) on a monthly or bimonthly basis. Just for interest sake. Then we'd also be able to see who's spending all their time on the hub instead of riding their bike (and I could negotiate with them for bike parts instead of phoning their boss) Keep up the good work !!!!
  12. I'm going to come past your house so your wife can pick my tiles. I've only ever gotten 1 x Diamond and mostly 25's or 30's.
  13. Data mining is a lot bigger than any of us can imagine. The big 4 banks in SA also have majority of their clients details, they tell you what you going to do before you do it. We becoming robots.
  14. I've brought in a set and my son has brought 2 sets (2 sets are integrated and 1 set is normal bars) The normal bars were the cheap ones but nothing wrong with them. Have seen the exact same bars for sale on the hub with a BIG mark up.

If I could keep up with you, I'd be tempted to give this a go but it might be way too much for me as a fun rider Obviously my plan would just be to sit on your wheel, otherwise I might go straight instead of turning right - again
  16. This pick a tile game doesn't work for me. The best tile that I've picked was 30 points, the rest have all been 25 points. No diamonds ever !!!
  17. With all those robots in the first few km you going to need a lot of marshals there. I think the 1st half is going to be really fast. The bumps are mainly in the 2nd half of the route. A bit more climbing on this route though.
  18. A good thing that I don't use that driving app. Those logs could be used in court as evidence
  19. I'm keep an eye on the classifieds. Since I joined the hub many years ago things have really changed. Back then road stuff was a lot more and there was a lot of it. These days it's MTB stuff. Road stuff is more limited. When goods are price right they sell quickly. For me negotiating has always been part of the hub. There have been times that the seller accepts a low ball offer, other times they get pissed off. All part of the fun. Some people might be holing onto their penny's but my gosh did I see plenty of R100k+ bike at the 100 Cycle Challenge.
  20. Seems there are a few hubbers really against this race ?? It's their 1st time and they need to improve but for their 1st attempt it was bloody marvellous From the comments there is nothing different from this race to any other. 1) Some people still don't know about the 94.7 and all the closed roads 2) Riders are placed in the incorrect bunchat every single race 3) Cones have caused many a crash at various races One very big PLUS with this race is that there weren't any short distance riders causing chaos towards the finish. Don't know if they had a short distance option. It was great coming off the N17 without having short distance riders all over the place. As for the goodie bag, there an entire thread about goodie bags. For me the best thing about the goodie bag is the bag itself (pity it's white though) Personally I'd pay the R400 again to do this race again (obviously next year it will be more). Now if they just move the race 2 weeks before Shova
  21. Great race. Had great fun in AL. Pace was fast with the juniors pacing. There was a crash on the N17 apparently caused by a junior who also went down. For the 1st time it was really well organised. A few things can obviously be improved. Well done to the 100 Cycle Challenge team !!!!
  22. PowerTap hubs are a different ball game - that's a proper power meter. Back in the day most of the guys used to use these. Now days I don't know too many people that use them. Most people that I know use Stages (probably because of the price and no extra weight added to the bike). If you'd just like avg power and TSS then it's ok. The spikes won't make a major difference because they only about 1 sec long and your ride is probably 2+ hours.
  23. Here's another hubbers feedback after buying a new PowerCal: it's not very accurate for short high intensity workouts due to heart rate lag for longer stuff it's fairly accurate for my needs. the power is not smooth and every now and again I get some big spikes. still want to borrow a pm and test it on a ride https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/116861-boast-about-your-latest-purchases-here/page-654
  24. It is. I've tried different straps, all with the same result (spikes happen). If I put a Garmin HR monitor on the same strap it works 100%, once the PowerCal is back on the spikes are back. The PowerCal is probably a good start to "playing" with power but it's no power meter. You can't use it for intervals and I'd also say that it would be difficult to use to train in the power zones. A number of people start with the PowerCal (mainly because of the price) and then move onto a proper power meter. IMO you are far better buying a 2nd hand Stages power meter than a PowerCal. Seeing most people use Shimano there are plenty in the Classifieds. If like me you use Campag then you have to make another plan.
