  1. I really want to commute to work but I have to pass the dodgy and dangerous "M1/M2 belt" to and from work. Does anyone cycle from Alberton to Randburg/Bryanston, bypassing or passing this highway on a safe route? I currently alternate daily between the motorbike to get home at a decent time and every other day take the bicycle to work and cycle there. I'm lucky to have showers at the office, but the only bicycle lock up is a silly rack against the wall. Does anyone deal with a similar lock up situation but have prevented people fiddling with their bike or stealing the wheels?
  2. I can't read half of the first post with that funny font. It is compacting into overlapping letters and only readable copying it to notepad. Also same date as Value Logistics Fast One 2019 on 27 Jan, like mentioned
  3. I bought a variety of CBC flavours from a shop near Summit Cycles and it was nowhere near R42 a bottle. I think it was around R30 each, but I can't remember too well, since it was during 2015. This was simply off of the shelf. The same shop I visited from above said that the reason why they don't stock too much of craft beer is because they expire much faster than larger scale brewed beer - usually up to 2 months he said back then.
  4. Thank you very much for the in depth description and comparison - I find it very useful!
  5. Perfect - it is a 2008 model like stated so going to try it, just to match the o rings now. Thank you for your time and advice!
  6. Thank you I've no excuse for missing this before, but if my stanchions are a matching size, will this work? https://www.evobikes.co.za/rock-shox-dust-wiper-seal-foam-ring-kit-32mm.html That's for the top where the stanchions enter the lowers, but then I just need to find the right size o-rings and crush washers, right? (which I should be able to find from the za.rs-online link) Coincidentally, the first link looks like the shop that couldn't help me with rubber grommets and o rings (confused Edenvale with Springs, since both are "East"). The second link said they don't have the right sizes last time I tried for the motorbike, but will check for the mtb!
  7. Is there a site to buy directly from Rockshox? When I type Rockshox South Africa into google, I just get lbs results. Or should I visit a shop like Cycle Lab or Cycle Hub and ask for a kit to be ordered in person? Regarding the 28/30/32mm, can I determine this simply by measuring the stanchions with a caliper rule?
  8. Thank you Quagga Does the upper viscosity of the oil matter? Or is any oil with a lower of 5w fine? (Asking because I have some 5w40, maybe its 10w40 left from motorbike) Also, I've tried getting o-rings for the motorbike before and the local shops couldn't help me at all - Builders, Adendorff, an o-ring specialist in spring (wtf) and some smaller hardware stores along jan smuts, nothing. Do you know of an online shop I could find some?
  9. I saw that too. Does anyone have experience to compare these to Assos bibs?
  10. Reviving an old thread of my own. So last time I did take my dual sus to Anton and Summit Cycles and was really happy with the results of the fork and shock services! After finishing the road bike, the MTB hasn't seen as frequent action and didn't realise the fork isn't holding pressure anymore. The lockout still turns it rigid, but without it, even pumped to 150PSI sags to about 40% immediately. I would this time round like to do the lowers on my fork myself, but don't know where to find the seals etc. kit nor what price to expect for the RS Reba WC 26". I've emailed rushsports, but want to keep local Jhb shops in mind too - can anyone advise please? I've read through like 10 threads, including https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/170038-how-forked-is-your-fork/page-14?hl=fork%20service and it seems like I should expect a price around R250-300 for the kit?
  11. That makes logical sense, just like heavier vehicles on the road contribute to higher maintenance costs, thereby attracting higher toll fees. That is true, but much like the multiquote feature provided for by bikehub, people are too lazy to change an option on both platforms
  12. ja-sis. Just ugly from proportions and tapering. The turbo levo is much nicer in comparison.
  13. Now to be fair, I wasn't at the race (due to the price coincidentally), but it has been pointed out that the "full road closure" was a false claim after all. Why do you say it was full road closure?
  14. That was a very interesting read! Do you perhaps have links to online sources or books for further reading? Just about the sandf side of the text. I saw some seriously unhealthy overweight people on mtb's riding up the hill on the macsteel race recently and I was [flabber]gasted. Kudos to those people, you made some heads turn for sure! There is no compulsory need for ebikes for these health benefits, unless maybe honest knee issues. If an ebike doesn't get an overweight person exercising, nothing will. If an ebike takes away some of the pain from cycling up a hill, then no thanks
  15. Great video to instill the fomo! The climb looks hectic! It also looks very narrow- would you say it is safe/wide enough to ride alone on a weekend? PS: lady at 4:28, where is your bike???
  16. Thanks for all the comments regarding road bike vs mtb. Coincidentally I haven't seen a road bike there and did it on my own mtb, so it was just a new frame of reference
  17. Where these mainly done in error (in spite of the very visible paint on the road)? Will their rides get flagged or just left as is? Asking because racetec put me in an entirely incorrect category and are taking long to respond, so a bit pissy.
  18. hmm, fair enough. Handling that intersection traffic as well as the race batches couldn't have been easy. I've sent racetec an email, but afterwards saw that start times are recorded per group, not per chip. A 32 minute disparity is still massive, so will wait to hear from them, as it could be my fault. Thanks to Germiston Wheelers, Macsteel, Sun Carnival City, Frosty, all the volunteer marshalls and police that assisted on the day- they made it work silky smooth. I tried to greet them as often as possible, because grateful
  19. Only gripe is that I struggled to find the racetec chip collection. I stopped by the finishing tent and was told its up front before the race, but by the time we were near the chute, I still couldn't see the tent, so very nearly missed my start! And yes, was my first road race ever so it could boil down to not knowing how it works differently to mtb. I think the placement of the racetec chip collection is too close to the mats, because it seems like my chip was read before starting or something like that, I'm not sure. Both bike computer and strava recorded a 20 and 30 minute faster time than racetec, which makes no sense. Going to email racetec about my recorded time and see what they say. The race was amazing - route was great, road was clean, marshalling was on point and extremely good, water points were plenty (thank goodness) and traffic flow in and out of the casino was good. It was a really fun day out with great riding, great people and a great vibe! PS: while I do think its fine chucking banana peels into the veld, I refrained from doing so because it may upset some Oh, and what was with the makeshift shoring and loitering going on on the unnamed road joining the N3 and R550? It looks like land grab, but maybe someone knows for a fact?
  20. While lubing up the bike for the race, caressing her brake pads and whispering sweet nothings in her ear, I noticed a nice big bulging bit of tube sticking out the rear wheel. If you pass me on the side of the road tomorrow because my makeshift fix didn't hold, at least wave!
  21. Post 14 from the first page with a strava link: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/177189-event-carnival-city-macsteel-national-classic/?p=3343547 I didn't open the link so cannot confirm which route, but I assume its the 110 road. edit: checked it, 110 route confirmed. Thanks Gary.
  22. I assume you did it on the mtb? I still don't know if you were serious or sarcastic about doing sbr with a road bike and standard road groupset. I'm curious to try though, knowing all too well it will be hell.
  23. I would also like to know. The R330 entry fee had me second guessing the whole time, but the disparity on entry numbers decided it. Whether sharing the numbers was wrong or not, unethical/deceitful advertising is worse.
  24. Was just about to comment the same. Based on Frosty's post, it does seem like the "flood of entry requests" this morning is possible, due to the entry numbers nearly moving up 50% last night. Still nowhere near 6500 though, which is such a lame move if the numbers are indeed lied about.
  25. not sure if it's a special price, but seems good for entry level helmets https://www.onedayonly.co.za/funandgo-helmet-with-removable-visor-1.html
