  1. This was me in 2013. Ended up buying several backups and extras for roughly the same price as what a chain, chainring and cassette would have cost locally. Stick it to them as they already stuck it to us. Self sourcing is the way to go in many cases today, imo.
  2. Slightly random, but if anyone has a broken 700c carbon front rim/wheel, I'd gladly pick it up. It's for a diy project. edit: rear wheel would work just as well.
  3. I haven't been asked for my walkerville passport when arriving on the motorbike - street cred still an accepted currency there
  4. From what I've seen and heard, I think track cycling crashes are brutal. I've had my fair share of whipes going 40kmh and sliding over tarmac, but track crashing... I'd rather fall in the road away from cars or on the mountain, before the track. To each their own I suppose and any discipline can be lethal or fatal. And that piece of wood seems to look similar in colour to what looks like timber skirting in the background? Perhaps a section of skirting was struck by the bike, flipping up from leverage and then savagely poked Lorenzo? gnarly...
  5. Also maybe ThinkBike forum: https://forum.thinkbike.co.za/forum.php
  6. Avianto has showers at the clubhouse - not sure about operating times nor if you'd be expected to pay the trail riding fees
  7. What results do you get if you picked off her phone? If it's good - your phone and my phone and a few other phones have the low score bugs
  8. This sounds correct. I also recall an email stating flight booster is being discontinued somewhere in July, but once-off discounts still apply.
  9. May I ask if it was a warranty replacement or out of warranty with a pay in difference? Mine has been doing the same since the colder months started
  10. Not the question, but that's not how flu shots work! Always worth going for the flu shot for a more versatile immune system
  11. Why does Danger Dassie sound so familiar? They're a user here, aren't they?
  12. Please read my post again and pay attention that nowhere did I even mention TomTom devices nor compare them to garmin. All I'm getting is you, a seemingly zealous garmin fanboy, saw a chance to exaggerate what I said, jump to conclusions. I'm well aware of the devices on the market and agree that easily 3 or 4 out of 5 replacement options are likely to be taken up by garmin, but if you're in the business of making money, that still isn't good enough. As for the bolded part, far as I'm aware, Garmin, like all other product sales companies, are in the business of making money. So your question over why Garmin would care is a no brainer - you can never have enough marketing and sales promotions. SInce you love examples so much, look at what Coca Cola does. So what if you think garmin is better than tomtom, polar, fitbit, huawei, suunto, whatever, the fact that they simply exist and some even growing, is physical proof that the competition is strong. Complacency can easily damage or end a company.
  13. Hi Marie, The best beginner bike is probably the best priced bike that suits your size. Experience as in time spent on a saddle and pedalling should give you the best indication of which geometry and price bracket model would suit your needs best of those brands, or others! Frustrating answer perhaps, but the reality is real.
  14. and as usual, garmin SA doing sweet blue bugger all instead of jumping on this opportunity to boost marketing and trade-in promotions. Or perhaps Discovery placed some red tape preventing them from doing such things due to device booster arrangements?
  15. It's as dead as swapping out training and racings tyres is, so not at all. also as morne said twice, convenience of reliability - if I replace or patch a tube I know roughly how long it'll take before being back in the race, but with tubeless, sounds like a gamble with zero guarantee
  16. this is what I meant earlier, although I failed in saying it as gracefully and tactly as this
  17. More like a must have for every vehicle driver that isn't riding a bike and cares for the lives of others!
  18. Mr Mayhem, just curious, am I right to assume that there are no repercussions for discovery clients that cancel vitality as long as they don't have things like life policies, but only medical aid? I'm guessing yes, but don't know for sure. I'm starting to think Discovery wins mostly when a person signs up for vitality. They keep taking the same medical aid premiums, in spite of a presumably healthier member. In return the member gets some discounts that they have to juggle and work for most of the time. May as well just pay the medical aid price and stick vitality to them if you're not doing it for gym/devices etc?
  19. Hey Echo, I was in a big car accident a few years back and stopped cycling for about 1.5-2 years. When I started again, I rode 5km the first day with moderate elevation (I was suffering so much!), then the next or 2 days later I did 7 km (aimed for 5, managed 7, you see the trend?), and by the weekend I aimed for 10km, managing 15. My point and rambling is - simply start riding. You don't need to work yourself to death, just get on the bike and ride 5km, more if you can manage without causing injuries (or stiff muscles!), then try and gradually increase the distance every time you ride again and you ought to see natural gains fairly quickly! Also, this period is crucial for stretching both warmup and warm down! It enables much faster gains and prevents delays from injuries. Hope this and the advice from other users helps. Enjoy the riding! PS: if you update your location, you may be lucky and get an offer from someone to ride with them.
  20. Highly presumptuous. Could just as well be a cyclist that spends time riding and not chatting on forums, who is immigrating and unloading bikes. Or upgrading and unloading bikes. Or stopped with riding and unloading bikes. Or got injured and unloading bikes. Or started golf and unloading bikes. Or switched to road and unloading bikes. Or getting rid of N+1 and unloading bikes. Or deploying out to an oil rig and unloading bikes.
  21. Sounds awesome indeed! Unfortunately by the time it starts, I'll still be sitting in traffic
  22. Does anyone know or understand the logic behind their advert on a bridge over the n3 that says "this bridge doesn't make sense, we do"?
  23. I'm not sure which one did the trick - at first I uploaded that half A5 size dis chem invoice thing that gets stapled to everything that looks like a box, along with the receipt, then separetely a photo of the box with the sticker on. I'm sorry, unfortunately I'm not sure which one did the trick. My guess would be the first one, since that is a printout of stored computer information.
  24. I purchased mine from the dis chem dispensary, took it home to apply diy, went onto the app and submitted a points claim and uploaded the required image, received the points 2-3 days later.
