  1. 'tis 'ere example'stilla fannipak, duz'n marrih whe'ya plac'it. and heck, its unpractical. You cant have the gun in a tightly zipper square baggy suspended on four corners. Thats the whole problem. First it starts out with muggings, but hey it's just a mugging so "cyclists" don't retaliate. Then hijackers start developing quicker and easier ways to mug you: the knife, the mob, the gun, then the truck full of hoodlums. "Cyclists" should have retaliated on the first offence and stopped this problem before it became the trend it is now. If you don't even fight for the bike you worked hard to pay R10 000 or R100 000 for, then no wonder this country is in it's current shirt state, see my reasoning?
  2. sorry, i hit "edit" on this post and somehow a new one was made
  3. Rietvlei and Thaba TRY to be safe. I'd say they are roughly 90% reliable, because it has occured before when I cycled at Rietvlei relatively late (sun was near setting time) and I encountered 2 squatters walking ON the single track, a few hundred meters before the first bridge. I've also noticed broken palisades on the section shortly after the first bridge where you go out of the bush and climb diagonally towards the houses on the fence perimeter. Otherwise, lovely place Rietvlei and Thaba. unfortunately, modderfontein and pwc are simply too far to afford the drive and entry on a student budget, so more parks would definitely be a great addition!
  4. sorry for the double post. Opening the link takes me to a forum discussion, not a strava segment... is the problem my side or link side?
  5. but it is isn't it? rampaging taxi's and outlaw hijacker country...
  6. taxi's should all die, reckless unlicensed public murderers
  7. I don't have any experience with formula forks, but with their brakes- which are just supreme. If Formula's brakes are anything to compare to, the shocks ought to be good. Have a look at South Africa's Formula Brakes distributor- they may have spares for the forks if you mail them. http://www.rushsports.co.za/ If you don't come right, inbox me and I'll help how I can.
  8. same goes for amazon.com (edit: just as an example!) Was browsing power supplies (whole of south africa is out of stock of all the good ones) and graphics cards. 4 will say "ships to JHB" and 1 will say "does not ship to RSA". I believe Super_mil's reason is probably the right one.
  9. they missed the gravy train, too late to sponsor urban assault lol
  10. naaise... though at that price range i'd put it towards a gps with realtime traffic analysis
  11. zambuck = betadine = pulls like a mofo when you apply it liberally, but otherwise its good too. bactroban and fucidin are anti-bacterial which is good for "that area", but you may want to make sure you aren't allergic to the inactive ingredients in bactroban. Betadine is somewhat sore to apply, but its also very effective. Unfortunately its sticky and messy and stains, so you'll need a plaster over. Put one of those square white muscle-voltaren like patches over the plaster and you should be good in no time =D
  12. CorelDraw check, adobe suite check, <insert most any designing program here> check. If I didnt have a great job already I'd apply- love my Anatomic shirt!
  13. bactroban = fucidin = success
  14. I'm not about to bash on avid's elixir range, but heck, the ratio of good vs bad reviews are 1:20, so as annoying as this may sound hearing it again, you are likely better off buying a different brand.. Shimano ought to be good, but if you have the funds available, I'd highly suggest Formula The One's- save'd me speeding off sharp turns with drops many times. As for the warranty... I'd take it to my LBS and ask for a cost estimate to repair it (sounds like cheap o-ring fix or expensive MC fix). Depending on that cost estimate, I'll decide whether its "better" to get it done and dusted at the LBS or courier the brake to nelspruit, maybe getting a replacement or new cylinder and save some money of that expensive fix. PS: don't get caught in chainreactioncycles' clearance sale trap, don't buy those discounted avids
  15. I actually haven't... but that name starts with the prefix "ali" which is in the same colour as that stupid alibaba site. wouldn't click a single link on either website! Chainreactioncycles are affordable and reliable for online shopping. The only likely hickup you'll get is the pathetically slow and near useless SA Post
  16. Sorry to hear it... Fake Pinarello's seem to be selling like hot prego rollo's Unfortunately that happens when you don't buy a Specialized!
  17. *sigh* i've lost interest. The lack of ambition is astounding
  18. At the risk of sounding daft... I'm not sure what you mean. Tone of voice may have helped here *chuckles*
  19. please note, there is no specifying WHO becomes roadkill here, as in [my] the attempt to pass due to likely frustration, either party is at risk of getting hurt (and as someone else said much earlier, sometimes there are sheer drops off of cliffs when you try to pass). either way, the "become roadkill" post was in a sarcastic tone, not provocative.
  20. become roadkill
  21. I have made the same point although from a different perspective. I don't agree with always waiting until its safe and sound, but I do agree that it's not a right, but everyone needs to show high consideration towards others- let them pass if you would want the same. To be more clear, the levels of consideration should be of such nature that you allow them to pass or be allowed to pass as soon as humanly possible, because the longer someone's on your tail, the worse the experience gets, as many posts have stated in many different ways. We need more contesting to come up with better results.
  22. You are still assuming and have me bored; you aren't realising and learning and thereby I can't learn due to uninsightful (I wanted to use a less harsh synonym, but everything sounds insulting) replies. My attitude is clear, as I attempted yet again in a previous post to clarify my viewpoint i.e. being considerate AT ALL TIMES, whether in training or race conditions. One such example: " give way when someone is faster than you and thereby chivalry will work its way back in and other cyclists will show more consideration when you are faster than they are" I hardly see the point of still replying to you. I also use strava but I've never used it for anything other than getting a pace value during training. You are a hypocrite for making foolish and irrelevant comparisons to bluelightbullies and your perceived stereotype of Strava users. I have yet to meet someone that uses Strava in a way that matches your stereotype.
  23. This catch-22 is exactly the point I am trying to bring across. When cyclist A won't give way because they are stubborn, it makes cyclist B adapt to survive, thereby applying the same bad attitude to whoever the next victim is a.k.a. cyclist C. As I've mentioned before, give way when someone is faster than you and thereby chivalry will work its way back in and other cyclists will show more consideration when you are faster than they are.
  24. I'll be here all day, and tomorrow.
