  1. While lubing up the bike for the race, caressing her brake pads and whispering sweet nothings in her ear, I noticed a nice big bulging bit of tube sticking out the rear wheel. If you pass me on the side of the road tomorrow because my makeshift fix didn't hold, at least wave!
  2. Post 14 from the first page with a strava link: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/177189-event-carnival-city-macsteel-national-classic/?p=3343547 I didn't open the link so cannot confirm which route, but I assume its the 110 road. edit: checked it, 110 route confirmed. Thanks Gary.
  3. I assume you did it on the mtb? I still don't know if you were serious or sarcastic about doing sbr with a road bike and standard road groupset. I'm curious to try though, knowing all too well it will be hell.
  4. I would also like to know. The R330 entry fee had me second guessing the whole time, but the disparity on entry numbers decided it. Whether sharing the numbers was wrong or not, unethical/deceitful advertising is worse.
  5. Was just about to comment the same. Based on Frosty's post, it does seem like the "flood of entry requests" this morning is possible, due to the entry numbers nearly moving up 50% last night. Still nowhere near 6500 though, which is such a lame move if the numbers are indeed lied about.
  6. not sure if it's a special price, but seems good for entry level helmets https://www.onedayonly.co.za/funandgo-helmet-with-removable-visor-1.html
  7. Thank you very much Frosty! It really helps, so thanks to everyone where it is due.
  8. The latest racetec email excludes sunday morning for collection and registration, but on http://germistonclassic.co.za/start-info/ it says the following: * Sunday, 28 October 2018 – Carnival City (05:00 – 08:00).* Participants taking part in the MTB, Road and Trail Run events can collect race numbers from Carnival City on Saturday/Sunday morning (27/28 October) between 05:30 and 06:30, or at any of the venues above. Can anyone confirm Sunday is fine for registration & collection?
  9. There was some discussion on it a while back. The following link is the latest post I recall: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/167756-tshwane-classic/?p=3384761 It does indeed sound like they may be lying about the advertised entries, maybe they are counting facebook "interested" clicks.
  10. The one page I didn't try any searches because I assumed it would only return past events!
  11. Where did you get your seeding info? Did you use the seeding index on racetec and applied that to something like the results of Frosty's post 2 posts after yours?
  12. Here you go: http://germistonclassic.co.za/mtb-information/ Found it by going to the events page for the race, clicked website and chose mtb a bit lower down.
  13. Would that not just make it vegetarian and the vegan side debatable (if someone provided alternative results)?
  14. Reminds me of the current state of affairs in Jhb where it is safer to ride the mtb on the road because of all the flippen chicken bones lying everywhere!
  15. it is relevant to the response to the post on snakes, obviously
  16. First post is irrelevant, however relevance of the topic itself and the post is. Thought this ought to be common sense.
  17. Some of these responses are to accounts that don't even exist anymore. Why do that?
  18. Thank you very much
  19. Guess I'm sold. Thank you Frosty This will be my first road race entry- kind of lost between entering the open seeded or elite age group, not sure what the difference is. Can you advise please Frosty? Promise I won't cause any bunch crashes!
  20. I'm sitting here flipping cents, counting them over and over and wondering if I can "afford" the R330 110km race. It seems really fun, mostly flat, but I read the talks about the wind. I see they didn't get full road closure in the end and only partial closure with traffic calming?
  21. I'm sure you meant "there is no rule preventing a car from stopping", right? I may be wrong but I think I saw signage indicating speed limits along the course- can't be 100% sure though as I was riding devilish hills at the time! I also think the "rules and guidelines" paper you get after paying your entrance fee states a speed limit to adhere to. If I'm wrong on both accounts, I would assume public road rules apply (i.e. 60 or less perhaps), because Suikerbosrand is a public nature reserve, but then again the figures that come to mind on the paper/signage is 30. Good question, now I'm not sure!
  22. As far as the gate guard and the printed map they provide are concerned, its a strict NO. When I was there for the first time I asked specifically about the route and was told its a left only at the split and a one way all the way. To cite from memory "you can't turn back, it's a one way specifically for everyone's safety". Some people have great ignorance for rules/guidelines and the safety of others.
  23. I visited the Garmin outlet in Rosebank yesterday. I took my very old Nuvi 205W and received an email about two hours later saying "usb port faulty" and got offered a replacement "at discount". The replacement offer was for the DriveSmart 51 LMTS and they offered it at R30 cheaper than the standard price available at Navworld up the road. This is obviously useless as it would be cheaper buying it new from Navworld than driving all the way to Rosebank, sitting in traffic and paying a parking fee. I've responded to their email asking for clarification how their offer is worth considering as a discount, but of course no reply received yet. Has anyone else been offered useless offers from Garmin as well?
  24. You're right. The items that repeat several times without selling tend to land up on the "warehouse clearance" onedayonly day(s).
