  1. Thank you very much Frosty! It really helps, so thanks to everyone where it is due.
  2. The latest racetec email excludes sunday morning for collection and registration, but on http://germistonclassic.co.za/start-info/ it says the following: * Sunday, 28 October 2018 – Carnival City (05:00 – 08:00).* Participants taking part in the MTB, Road and Trail Run events can collect race numbers from Carnival City on Saturday/Sunday morning (27/28 October) between 05:30 and 06:30, or at any of the venues above. Can anyone confirm Sunday is fine for registration & collection?
  3. There was some discussion on it a while back. The following link is the latest post I recall: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/167756-tshwane-classic/?p=3384761 It does indeed sound like they may be lying about the advertised entries, maybe they are counting facebook "interested" clicks.
  4. The one page I didn't try any searches because I assumed it would only return past events!
  5. Where did you get your seeding info? Did you use the seeding index on racetec and applied that to something like the results of Frosty's post 2 posts after yours?
  6. Here you go: http://germistonclassic.co.za/mtb-information/ Found it by going to the events page for the race, clicked website and chose mtb a bit lower down.
  7. it is relevant to the response to the post on snakes, obviously
  8. First post is irrelevant, however relevance of the topic itself and the post is. Thought this ought to be common sense.
  9. Some of these responses are to accounts that don't even exist anymore. Why do that?
  10. Thank you very much
  11. Guess I'm sold. Thank you Frosty This will be my first road race entry- kind of lost between entering the open seeded or elite age group, not sure what the difference is. Can you advise please Frosty? Promise I won't cause any bunch crashes!
  12. I'm sitting here flipping cents, counting them over and over and wondering if I can "afford" the R330 110km race. It seems really fun, mostly flat, but I read the talks about the wind. I see they didn't get full road closure in the end and only partial closure with traffic calming?
  13. I'm sure you meant "there is no rule preventing a car from stopping", right? I may be wrong but I think I saw signage indicating speed limits along the course- can't be 100% sure though as I was riding devilish hills at the time! I also think the "rules and guidelines" paper you get after paying your entrance fee states a speed limit to adhere to. If I'm wrong on both accounts, I would assume public road rules apply (i.e. 60 or less perhaps), because Suikerbosrand is a public nature reserve, but then again the figures that come to mind on the paper/signage is 30. Good question, now I'm not sure!
  14. As far as the gate guard and the printed map they provide are concerned, its a strict NO. When I was there for the first time I asked specifically about the route and was told its a left only at the split and a one way all the way. To cite from memory "you can't turn back, it's a one way specifically for everyone's safety". Some people have great ignorance for rules/guidelines and the safety of others.
  15. I visited the Garmin outlet in Rosebank yesterday. I took my very old Nuvi 205W and received an email about two hours later saying "usb port faulty" and got offered a replacement "at discount". The replacement offer was for the DriveSmart 51 LMTS and they offered it at R30 cheaper than the standard price available at Navworld up the road. This is obviously useless as it would be cheaper buying it new from Navworld than driving all the way to Rosebank, sitting in traffic and paying a parking fee. I've responded to their email asking for clarification how their offer is worth considering as a discount, but of course no reply received yet. Has anyone else been offered useless offers from Garmin as well?
  16. You're right. The items that repeat several times without selling tend to land up on the "warehouse clearance" onedayonly day(s).
  17. eina, it looks just as tough. I'll ride it as soon as I can get my groupset working again
  18. I couldn't find a way to share the ride- must be to do with my privacy settings. Anyway, below is a screenclip with markups of a route I did recently. I avoided the comaro climb but had enough other climbs to more than make up for it. edit: The hotspot hijackings map marker has been mostly cleared of foliage and clearvu installed, so it does seem to have made a difference with the reduced criminal reports. edit 2: the name of the first/far left "short but steep climb" is SmartWolk Suicide Climb and the second/right "short but steep climb" is Oudeberg Street Climb - for those wanting to do strava segment searches.
  19. I just got an email from Discovery for a new initiative they're trying- Vitality Open. I'll be trying it but really don't like the idea of having my driving tracked- is it possible to prevent this in settings or somewhere else (besides putting the phone on flight mode and gps off etc etc)?
  20. As much as I detest makro (have never met any competent staff at any of their stores, whats new), these bikes are fairly specced for their prices. I rode a older rigid Genesys bike with a 3x7 altus groupset when I started out and it was good enough to ride Rietvlei's rock garden with. These bikes can and hopefully will bring a small influx of new cyclists into the country. For now that ought to be a good thing, at least in terms of cycling awareness!
  21. Does that mean I'm not allowed to enter events posted in English if I'm Afrikaans?
  22. just over a month late, but yes, the downhill going South on Comaro has a fixed camera and going North is a helluva climb. It's even better if you take a left after reaching the top to continue climbing and then some downhill, which is over fast though. I tend to avoid going up that hill, as the 2nd robot about 50meters or less after reaching the top is a hijacking hot spot (haven't heard reports for a long while, but still dangerous with hiding space) and also there are taxi's that can barely make the hill that sometimes ride the yellow, which just adds to the risk.
  23. So I decided to take chance with CL Boksburg, seeing if this cwc/cl merger sale is what it claims to be- summed up, waste of fuel and time visiting the shop. Even after the R100 discount voucher they were still R10 over other shops for the same items. If changes will only come in time, I suspect that by the time they do come they won't matter anymore.
  24. Thank you Racetec responded today to saturday's email that I should contact Spectrum Sports. Spectrum Sports responded to today's email and thinks the IR scanned my board dring the 50km lineup sometime, but they adjusted it to the batch's start time and the world is in order again Was it an old man riding an orange ebike? I parked next to him!
  25. Thanks Rookie! It is there... but it says it took me 3hrs+ to finish the 30km, which is very wrong Do you know whether I should contact spectrumsports, racetec or cycleevents for this error?
