  1. Any chance we will see an vid of that footage you are posting???
  2. early early earlier! as early as possible I think.
  3. 2x 2015 Nobby Nics - both leaking between the blocks - so bad I had to plug - stans didn't seal and no not punctures... started as "sweating". 2x 2014 Hans Dampf - tearing - no leaks - trailstar tearing blocks - pacestar still ok. 2x 2015 26" Racing Ralph - leaking although much less. maxxis side knobs also tear off. Now what? - WTB that's what... well lets see how they last... they still new. The issues I had was not just me and not just 1 time. Known issue world wide particularly on the Trailstar compound HD.
  4. Side knobbies tear or tear off. once they even just have a small tear they tend to wash out. if they made the same tyre with more support on the side knobs - maybe. Initially and while they new they are great and then they turn to crap.
  5. if you have no issues then the lower pressures will give you more grip. Not sure if inflating the rear a bit more will make you go a bit faster... maybe try at 1.7 or 1.8? perhaps the front at 1.4? test and see...
  6. What size crossmarks did you fit? 2.0 2.1 2.2? Those rims are really very wide and will help increase the volume so you do not need as much pressure in the tyre as on narrower rims. I would however not fit skinny tyres on those rims. I would have gone with a 2.3 - 2.4 tyre front and 2.2 -2.3 rear. then run 1.4bar front pressure and 1.7bar rear pressure or 20psi front 25 psi back. But I weigh +/- 75kg. for 100 kg I would go to 1.6 to 1.7bar front and 1.9bar to 2.0bar back or 24-25 front and 29-30psi back. you got to feel it though - very much a personal preference.
  7. PICS or it did not happen.
  8. Your bike looks quite XC with that seat height and that angle. You gonna be pedalling up the mountain also I take it?
  9. We are all gonna save for our next Makro bike
  10. it is definitely a feel thing. Maybe 1.6 feels better to you but you goto try and see what works. I rode 1.6 Front and 1.8 back with my Hans dampf Front and Nobby Nic rear... Softer than that it felt like folding. I once had Bontrager XR2 Team 2.4 front on my old 26er Trance and that would fold at 1.7 - not that it ever gripped - killed my confidence on that as I washed the front a couple of times - resulting in some land purchases...
  11. Should have gone with the Trailboss on the back... That I know now - not that the wolverine is bad just the Trailboss is better in the thick and loose - I think.
  12. So I ended up with a WTB combo of a Vigilante 2.3 front and Wolverine 2.2 in the back. Running 1.8bar rear and 1.4-1.5bar front I weigh anything between 72kg and 75kg without any gear. so lets say 75kg... less front scrub on hairpin twisty bits. up to 80 kg I would run 1.5 front and 1.8-1.9 rear.
  13. Thanks man - I am not sure about the rear tyre... is ok. Wish they would make a 2.4 or 2.5 vigilante - that would rock! Here is my roadie I got to do 94.7... older babe but she still has some rock and roll.
  14. I have to come ride there this weekend... maybe an early morning ride but got to do it. I cant stop watching the video... LOL
  15. Still love my Trance 27.5 - New tyres work well.
  16. +1000 on the awesome vid. Love it. I am ashamed to admit I have never ridden there myself even though I stay in Jozy. Is a problem when you ride by yourself. I heard you should only travel in packs of 2+ when going there. Is that still true?
  17. Hi Hubbers, So I have a tyre predicament which I am sure a lot has shared. (especially recently it seems) So hand up who has had profuse cr@p with the latest schwalbes??? (Leaking suddenly or puncturing - no foreign object needed) I had a brand new 2 - 3 months old new nobby nic start leaking everywhere... Fitted old draggy hans dampf on the back - no more leaks or puncturing (2015 Scwhalbes seem to suck) I now (well actually always - just more as of recently since I am trying harder) have a scrubbing hans dampf SS trailstar 2.35 front on my Trance @1.4bar. Now I am not sure if this is due to the small tears in the side knobbies (another Schwalbe special) mind you it probably always scrubbed on tight and twistys when trying to maintain speed. So to put it short I need help to cure me from the Schwalbe disease Need the following boxes ticked: Front: 1. More front grip than Hans Dampf 2.35 SS Trailstar. (less scrubbing or wash-out) 2. Less leaking/weeping. 3. less tearing of the treads 3. Similar weight (800g) Considering ONZA IBEX 2.4 or WTB Trailboss 2.4 or Vigilante 2.3 A1114307 IBEX AM/END 27.5x2.40 890g 61-584 FRC 60 kevlar/fold RC2 65a/55a TLR A1114309 IBEX AM/END 27.5x2.40 850g 61-584 FRC120 120 kevlar/fold RC2 65a/55a TLR Rear: 1. Similar to Nobby Nic 2.25 SS Pace Star 1. less drag that hans dampf 2. Less leaking/weeping/punctures. 3. less tearing of the treads 3. Similar weight (650g) Considering ONZA CANIS 2.2 or WTB trailboss 2.2 A1114102 CANIS XC/AM 27.5x2.25 640g 57-587 C3 60 kevlar/fold RC2 65a/55a TLR A1114104 CANIS XC/AM 27.5x2.25 600g 57-584 C3120 120 kelvar/fold RC2 65a/55a TLR I really cannot handle the scrubbing front anymore... I am all for oversteer not understeer.
  18. Now post some pics of your Giant or post in the tech section...
  19. In C it should be almost locked in T it should have a "valved" feel and in D it should be fully open. Clear difference between all. It should in other words be like the bike in the shop... Maybe the problem is the lever itself - sometimes it jest needs put together correctly... To clarify the above - your shock might be within spec etc etc but the operation of the lever is not doing what it should...
  20. Just had to add that my hans dampf snakeskin and nobby nic snakeskin survived the monster and I did not have a single puncture or cut or anything on them. they especially handled the downhill at 55+kmph very nicely and I am even more impressed by them now
  21. Bit late but top of the mini monster on the "75km" Magalies Monster on Saturday. Wow what a view!!!
  22. The Schwalbe terminology can be trickey here is how I understand... could be wrong... Casing: Performance line - only just usable for tubeless - not much protection at all Evo - light and durable tubeless ready only casing. Snake Skin - is a casing reinforcement to help against sidewall cuts Super Gravity - is an even heavier duty casing for even bigger protection against rocks etc. Compound: Pace star - harder compound for use typically on the rear. Trailstar - soft compound for use typically on the front or even rear Vertstar - even softer for use on the front typically. now you can have almost all the compounds on any of the casings... almost.. Then there is the tread patterns - schwalbe decided to give em names... Nobby Nic Hans Dampf Magic Mary Muddy Mary Dirty Dan etc etc 2c in die emmer...
  23. just nice warm soapy water.... Squirt rocks.
  24. I did my 27.5 Trance 2 but it was not as simple as my LBS... My LBS went to Giant and got drop-outs... easy peasy because you just order a derailleur hangar kit for a trance adv - the problem is the thru axle which apparently is a Giant special thread DT Swiss item... I don't think the others just fit... Had to get one from Giant...
