  1. Unless the weather is absolutely terrible, I'll ride - not driving that far to not ride At least, with that amount of climbing in the first half, there shouldn't be big groups going back. But I should probably put on new tires, just in case.
  2. And something like 70% chance of rain. Really hope that changes a smidge lower as we get closer to the weekend
  3. Oddly, we've found that the strawberry flavour Futurelife doesn't work for my wife, but the chocolate flavour is fine. Not sure what ingredient(s) it is that makes the difference for her
  4. I wonder what the instruction was to the volunteers at the chutes. I specifically rode up to the omie at 1A, he asked if I was 1A, I said yes. But he didn't seem super concerned about checking the number on my bike, my back or that my chip was on, unlike normal years. And I was on my own. There is no way those few people could possibly have checked the next mob's numbers.
  5. Sheesh 1A started fast... I was aware I was less fit than last year, but to be off the back before Hospital Bend was interesting. The upside was that Hospital Bend was far less stressful.
  6. ???? I was near the front of some group, but not the one I started in (nor the two that followed)
  7. My legs started warning me before little chappies, so figured I might as well stop and take a photo
  8. Had a few seasons on our ride to Melkbosstrand this morning as well. Rain and rain, then sunny while having coffee, then rain again. Now to clean the sand off my bike. Whooo...
  9. Looks like you should be OK, for a while at least, if you have been able to download it already
  10. I could connect to the site with my phone, but not from my laptop, wife or parents' phones. So we used mine to download all of our cards. The functionality to check the validity via the QR code isn't in place either, if I'm not mistaken.
  11. Start a new plan using Plan Builder in TR, for whenever your event is next year? I've been following a low volume Trainer Road plan the last few months, ending with the Amashova. After that, I am probably going to add another plan ending at next year's CTCT or possibly Double 90 in April. Will just swop out some rides for outside group rides, especially in Dec.
  12. Thanks, need to remember this for the drive down
  13. About 36.34km/h, to make it with 3 seconds to spare.
  14. Surely a bit of an exaggeration? The CTCT 2015 route was changed 5 days before the event, cancelled with some already started and riders waiting to start in 2019, and the event hasn't died. This was communicated a month before the event. For those who booked accommodation in PMB I can understand being frustrated. For us it is over 600km each way, and the stay at the Suncoast, for an 80km fun ride - I'd still rather do this than be in hospital again this year. Aren't you in Durban?
  15. Quite disappointed in the route change, but I can imagine the bus transfers especially being a tricky one for organisers with Covid regulations. But to change it so late is definitely not nice, specifically for all the people who've booked accommodation in PMB. We booked at the Suncoast Towers just a few weeks ago, so thankfully I don't have to change that. This route is then a bit past Hillcrest and back? I don't know the area that well.
  16. Hmm, well the start times provided so far are definitely not 5min between start groups: https://www.capetowncycletour.com/lifecycle-week/ctct/2020-cape-town-cycle-tour-start-times/ I'm also wondering about the test before travelling down. Our family travelling together have all had our 2nd Pfizer dose a few weeks ago, but if a test is needed before travelling then so be it Edit: also, just checked, the Ciovita sport mask is 4 layers apparently, so should be fine on the mask front as well
  17. 1A, off at 6:29, only three minutes gap. I agree, bunches will be big quite soon. Wonder how big the start groups are
  18. Supposedly the digital vaccine passport thingy should launch 'this month' (EVDS seems to work pretty well, so there is hope that this isn't the usual government 'this month' = next year somewhere). So, would be nice if those who have been vaccinated could choose if they want to do the rapid test or not. If this is not ready in time, I doubt we will be so lucky.
  19. I think they are getting more strict on it, actually, as every time a new update is released there are lots of issues between people who have and have not yet updated. Usually there is just one big update per month, but recently there have been a couple of bug-fix ones inbetween (update was 19th Aug, bug-fix releases 25th Aug and 2nd Sept).
  20. I got myself one of these a few months ago: https://www.takealot.com/transcend-usb3-0-4-port-powered-hub/PLID29401929 ANT+ and BT dongles plugged into it on the table right next to my bike. I've had very few connectivity issues since changing to this setup, especially with programs other than Zwift. Also had to rearrange some power cables, as turning on my fan would cause a momentary USB dropout, at which point Zwift would refuse to reconnect.
  21. That is super handy! Thanks
  22. I don't think you can import routes into Zwift? There are multiple options available on Rouvy, and it was also on FullGaz (in three parts, mind you) earlier in the year.
  23. I realise it does not compare to the real thing, but anyone else doing the virtual event/routes? http://knysnacycle.co.za/virtual-events-rouvy/ I see they've added that, if you had entered for the real event, can get free entry for this.
  24. Your first post specifically mentions "All the money in the bank". If it is not about losing the money at all, why specifically mention that then? Are the rules put in place by government the best it could be? Obviously not. Did they bungle the vaccine rollout? Yes. If the organisers' hands are tied due to the rules, that is not their fault. At least there was some warning, not like the Epic last year that was cancelled one or two days before.
  25. Didn't Jan Ullrich's team use some specific gas in their TT bike tyres at some stage? Around 1999. Can't remember if it was helium or not.
