  1. Saved me a post here. To add: let the e bikers organize e bike races and then allow regular bikes as well rather than the other way around. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  2. Its a bit more technical than Conties Blue and it is a bit more up and down as well. I prefer a long drag up and then going down like a load of bricks like Conties, but its nice to get a variety of riding in as well. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  3. They have various trails that goes up to 25km in length (black route). I did the red that is 15km in length with 320m of climbing. I would say 70% is single track, 30% jeep track on the red. It is mostly not too technical, but there are 2 or 3 places that can be tricky. These are well marked with danger signs. I enjoy the trails as the missus and kids can chill at the restaurant while I ride and there are showers if you want to clean up afterwards. They are kiddie friendly with pony rides and a nice play area as well. Trail fees are R50. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  6. Skills training in s a good idea, regardless of how well you currently ride. If you are spending (say) 10 hours a week on the bike, be sure to do at least 1 hour’s skills drills or riding out of your skills comfort zone. Take a few skills lessons and practice the drills. You’ll be amazed at how much time you can make up in the tech sections if you are skilled. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  7. I did it last year. I visit Greyton quite often and enjoy the trails. The race has a few sections that is normally not accessible to the public. Greyton itself is great for a weekend away as well with good restaurants, a lovely market for the non-cyclists on the Saturday and some good art galleries and craft shops as well. 8. How do you feel about Ski-lifts (on the Northern Hemisphere of course) and bakkie-shuttles (at home of course). Are those guys also not ‘pure cyclists’? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  9. I rode Harkerville last week. Its not as badly affected by the fires as I feared. The GRTP has become a firm favorite for me, so be sure to put a day aside for this as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  11. Unless you are participating under a racing license (i.e. ‘league’) you have nothing to worry about. Just check with your doctor that you can participate while on the meds. Often meds and exercise don’t mix. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  12. Do a hard reset and reinstall the latest firmware. If it is not a firmware issue Navworld will sort it out for you. Just make sure you have synced all your data before the hard reset. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I usually do 2 stage races a year. 1 ‘local’ and 1 ‘away’. Combined cost was last year around R25k for 7 days riding (includes flights, accommodation and entries). Some mates and I are leaning to rather do a trip to Morzine next June for around the same cost as 2 stage races each (flights, transfers, ski lift passes, grub and beer) I get why people do the same stuff over and over. Its familiar and in your comfort zone. Life is short, live it with no regrets. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Ok, my musings on S2C: 1. Underberg is a logistical nightmare and pretty much every contestant needs a bed the night before the event. The town has a population of less than 3000 people and the tourism capacity is very limited. The race does not have a tented village the night before the race (or didn’t when I did my last Sani in 2014). The tented village at Tankwa is open the night before the event and it works very well. W2W can get away with no accommodation the night before as Somerset West and surrounds have the tourism capacity to cater for riders. 2. The entries should be released in phases, e.g. the Race first, a month later the adventure, and if there is sufficient demand, the trail. 3. 1200 riders are too many for the trails. Limit it to 800 or so and your logistics will be so much easier. 4. Joberg2C has grown, probably at the expense of Sani2C. The cost of flights, accommodation before the event etc. makes Joberg2C a more enticing proposition than Sani for me. 5. The 1 day in between the various race starts places unnecessary strain on resources. Have the 3 events over 3 consecutive weekends. 6. Get rid of the corporate bloat. One year the corporate sponsor entrants had their own start group ahead of riders who were much more capable and deserving of an early start. While sponsors are critical to the success of these events, it does very little for broader exposure to brands when the VIP’s get private chill zones, luxury tents and preferential start batches. My view is that you get much more bang for buck by enhancing the experience for ALL the riders opposed to a few. This is not unique to Sani2C, so other event organizers can take note. 7. The point to point concept is fading fast, and for good reason. Packing and unpacking every day is a schlep. It also limits route improvements and expansions when you go from point to point. The cost in logistics does not trump the sense of journey with a mainstream point to point race. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

In the past wait-listed entries were offered entries when those with paid up entries withdrew. With no waiting lists people now have to flog their entries when they withdraw. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  19. As things stand right now we are very light in the All Rounder department. For us to be truly competitive in the shorter formats we need a good bowling all rounder that can smash 40 off 15 balls towards the end of an innings for us. Morris is probably our best bet to do this, so lets hope that Otis and the coaching staff works with him on his batting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  21. A few reasons:1. Progression in technology. A 2018 e bike will be more advanced in terms of output, battery life, etc. 2. People buy e-bikes for a spouse and the bike simply gathers dust. 3. People under-estimate the cost of servicing bicycles. People new to cycling use e-bikes as a mechanism to get into cycling, but are often discouraged once they realize what the hidden costs are. Given the number of Levo’s sold by Specialized, I am surprised that the re-sale rate is so little. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  22. A solid day out for the Proteas. Bavuma got close to another 100. Maharaj played positively to push the scoring along and our quicks in particular looked like taking wickets all afternoon. I risk getting ahead of myself, but if we can get the last 4 wickets in the morning session, I’d let them follow on and then try and deliver the Coup de Grace tomorrow so they can get an early flight home. Just an observation: is it my imagination or did the animosity that marred the series so far disappear from the field in this test? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  24. If you wish to cycle on the footpath, please do so at 10km/h or less. It has many blind rises and turns and pedestrians and runners have right of way here. I prefer the road and I often see riders cycling abreast on this road, with most motorists having a tolerant and pleasant disposition to this. The particular section the OP refers to gives motorists good visibility at oncoming traffic and overtaking safely here (at least 1m passing distance from the cyclists) will take him into the oncoming lane in any event as there is no shoulder on this road.
