  1. Definitely didn't achieve speeds like that riding clean.
  2. Just north of somerset west, off the R44 between somerset west and stellenbosch. It's 30 minutes form Cape town International, and 40min from CT and, 15 mins from stellenbosch. Google steilte trails.
  3. AH right, interesting to know. Helderberg could accommodate 500m drop over 2.5kms which I think is on par with many of the DH courses. And it's close to stellenbosch which is more of a hub than fort william. I'm not disputing you, I'm just curious. Was this discussion on a thread somewhere?
  4. Typically the majority of the racing happens in europe although there is often a canadian stage. So for all the teams to head out to southern africa for a race takes much more time, much more money and is seasonally out of sync with the rest of Europe/northern hemisphere. So it's a logistical issue more than anything. It was just inconvenient to go out to PMB. But my guess is that there are now so many international XC riders who train here that they are able to exert a little bit of influence on the UCI. Given that we have the mountains and infrastructure it would actually make logistical sense to have a DH and even enduro stage in stellenbosch too. Hopefully after 2018 that could be a possibility.
  5. I bought a few pairs of "cool" socks, to see what the fuss was about. They look 2 x better, and are 2 x more comfortable than my old socks. So they are 4 x better overall. But they cost 5 x more. Because none of these figures have been estimated and the maths is 100% correct, I did not buy any more cool socks.
  6. Thanks, although on page 1 shoes are listed as 40%. Was this a typo on your part or have the rates changed?
  7. OK so then on the first page, I use the rate applicable to clothing and not shoes?
  8. Rates that were posted almost 7 years ago - not sure if they are still applicable. But if so, I will apply them and Myles' formula. Much appreciated. And yes, the comments about laziness and pulling finger are deserved.
  9. OK so this is seems like the right place to ask my question, and apologies for not reading the whole thread to find a potential answer, but it's long (that's what she said) and I'm a little too busy at the moment (that's what..nevermind). So, let's say a guy called Jeff wants to buy a pair of cycling shoes. They cost R2000 in RSA, and they cost R1000 on CRC. Which option should Jeff choose, and if the answer is CRC, by how much will Jeff be out of pocket at the end of the entire process?
  10. Hahahaha - that's exactly what I've been doing so far. I remember skateboarding friends that also used to buy old squash shoes instead of paying for vans or other "name brand" skating shoes. I'm still gonna keep looking for something a bit more bike specific though and (if I'm honest) something a bit cooler than my dodgy old squash shoes.
  11. I found this oldish thread because I've run into a similar issue, ie: I want a decent pair of shoes for flat pedals but am not prepared to pay R2500 for FiveTens (yet). Are there any suggestions out there for any more wallet-friendly options?
  12. What he said. In my experience, clicking or creaking when pedalling is almost always the bottom bracket, followed by pedals. Your seatpost and saddle can also creak. That may sound stupid but sometimes it is not obvious where the noise is coming from. So as others have said - check and fix the things you can. Clean and lube the pedals, and then make sure its not the saddle. If it's neither of those then get the bottom bracket serviced because it's typically not a noobie job. It wont be expensive, or at least it shouldn't be.
  13. HI Pyga folks, I've got a quick technical query. I'm looking at servicing the headset on my pascoe, which is the cane creek tapered headset as per specs on pyga website. I'm beginning to get a slight creak from the headset, which has to date not been serviced since purchase. I've watched a few videos on servicing headsets on youtube but I'm getting some additional opinions here. Any strong opinions regarding the grease I should be using? Similarly, degreasing and/or cleaning? Any common pitfalls in the procedure? Seem fairly easy from what I've seen online so far. Thanks
  14. I am continually amazed at the near-infinite market for expensive cycling socks.
  15. A ceraously budget component? Sorry.
  16. I want to support the current leaders but I just can't bring myself to shout "GO NAD!"
  17. If you are referring to the kickstand shown in the photo then don't stress, you can get them anywhere.
  18. "Descends like a dh bike but with no comprimise on the climbs" - every review I've read on long travel 29ers this year.
  19. Yeah that's probably true. I'm not sure if you've read Tyler Hamilton's book (i'm guessing many on this thread have) but his description of Jan Ullrich's physique borders on homo-erotic. I was a big Ullrich fan. He got busted for drugs in the off season once, but not PEDs, ecstasy! I thought it was classic at the time. In an environment where every second rider was being bust for doping, Jan just wanted to party.
  20. One of a few riders that were probably better than lance but got mind f'ed by him.
  21. He has an (occasionally) interesting weekly podcast called "The Forward Podcast". And something else that is rather crypitc (to build up hype I guess) called WEDU. http://wedusport.com/ Personally I admire the guy. He's probably a bully and a bit of an assh*le. But he's also a survivor. While we are sitting here whining about how he cheated (they all did) he's moved on with his life and is getting involved in some new and interesting things. He's got the guts to do big, bold things with his life - and make the decisions that most people are too scared to make. So at the end of it all when we are sitting in retirement homes, he will be the one who spent his best years racing around europe, starting one of the biggest charities, being flown around to races in a leer jet, starting many successful businesses, dating sheryl crow, etc. Me, I had a decent desk job.
  22. So he's got to do it more than 100 times? Or does the climb actually have more than 84m elev gain?
  23. Mine only uses like 5% of the energy. Honestly it can't even be bothered to finish things that it
