  1. that is so sick... the nuke may have more travel but I'll take the trek if I had the choice. I haven't seen a dual that managed to line up the slope style of a dj frame so perfectly.
  2. I'm very inexperienced. But if there's one thing I've learned from a few upgrades, its that in the rear, sram and shimano shifters and derailleurs parts are NOT compatible. Or at least, not meant to be since they have different indexing systems. (I'm sure a few mad scientists out there have managed to make it work in certain cases though) Sram have however made a line of shifters called 'attack' that came in 8 and 9 speed some time back. They were entry level shifters that were meant to work with the shimano derailleurs only. Anyways if it were me, I would run a single ring upfront and go the gripshift route for the left side of the bar. You wont need to run a longer cable as you are simply switching sides. its also way easier to become accustomed to shifting in this way as apposed to fiddling with your thumbs or fingers with a shifter which is either going to be the wrong way round or upside down Edit: I forgot to mention. Shimano have a line of gripshifters called revoshift. So sram are not the only ones. its worth looking into.
  3. I have an issue that I'm trying to solve in the least ghetto way possible. The frame was built for mechanical disk brakes. No provision was made a hydraulic hose.
  4. a few nips and tucks here and there and she's done
  5. its almost done. Haven't really taken any progress pics. Will post a decent quality photo of the complete bike when I get those spacers
  6. Yeah I'll start with the shop that wants 300 for the kit
  7. The very last thing I need for my first ever build is a spacer kit for my rear sprocket. Its killing me. I've hunted online and around Cape Town and the best option is a set which costs over R300 locally. Which looks like ****. Its also overpriced considering that rapide's kit is under R100 and not much more for postage. Staring at the bike while I wait for them to get stock is torture.
  8. for 90 bucks rapide.co.za will deliver next day. I was shocked when it arrived and I'm in cape town. do it. just consider it petrol money
  9. if bikes were pornstars, downhill bikes would be the sluttiest
  10. my mom's cat lucy Better known as 'hotel kat' A blue eyed Burmese Manx As you can see, Manx cats are born without tails http://i.imgur.com/kJLplq2.jpg
  11. I was right behind him. I didn't actually know he attempted this till I saw his bike spinning away. Stopped me and the guys behind me from 'going for gold'. The guy you see in the first pic (red tshirt) landed that jump. He wasnt so lucky a couple minutes later on the next jump though. He got away with a concussion and a few scrapes but generally okay. It was quite an eventful day. Everybody who was there agrees though. It was one of the most awesome rides ever. Edit: I have to add this because I just remembered. When discussing his rigid before the ride he said (and I quote) 'Real mountain bikers don't need suspension'. He was only joking though.
  12. A chrome mongi was all you needed to visit both your girlfriends. Sigh... thanks for the nostalgia
  13. Its like apple vs android all over again. At the end of the day there is no better. The 29er has advantages which cannot be ignored. But its fanboys must learn to acknowledge its limitations as well. The attitude that a 29er is better in every aspect is childish to say the least. 26er till I die
  14. So the very same house got broken into last night. This time they actually got into the house and took the only bike he had left. A 2008 Teocali. http://i.imgur.com/6yHkm9t.jpg The only distinguishable feature I can think of is a diy chainstay device made from a reflector and and rubber hose. If anyone sees this bike, please contact me.
  15. http://i.imgur.com/iIdQWO5.jpg Nixon Lodown Couple of scratches from reefs and trails but still tough as nails. All ocean info till 2020, tides, wave count, set prediction and chrono. Love it
  16. I'd also like to know this. I would like to see a range of slipon knee pads I could choose from
  17. yep, soaked them on trails a few times. Once through almost knee deep water with a muddy bottom. I remember having to hold my bike over my head as I made my way through. Was such a fun ride too. Realy went exploring that day. Anyways I just washed them with a sponge and a little wash powder and let them dry in the sun
  18. http://i.imgur.com/pGTME2X.jpg After 8 months of regular and borderline reckless abuse and more falls than km's ridden. I can honestly say that these shoes are one of the best investments i've made. If you can call something this cheap an investment. The soles remain stiff, the padding makes it very comfortable even on long rides. Everything thus far remains intact and not a single thread has come undone. I have to say that most of the apparel sold by mr price are of questionable quality. Their padded lycra shorts are utter rubbish. But these shoes are certainly the exception
  19. I can relate. I'm nowhere near your level of fitness, or that interested in competitive cycling. But i too suffer from delayed turbos. I refer to it as 'my second wind'. For my first race i entered the 22km argus challenge i think it was. You know. baby steps. It went ok and and i finished somewhere in the middle. But when i was done i felt very dissatisfied. I got my second wind just before the end of the race. I felt like i was only realy ready to ride after i had completed.
  20. you should try stores that specialise in skating or longboarding protective gear. i stumbled accross something similar a few days back. i'll check my history and post the link here if i find it.
