  1. started using Garmin connect this week, been fortunate, no probs thus far. Had a look at Sportstrack, at R 35$, suppose its not too much if it works this well? R 250 or something? Reading all of this it seems it will be money well spent? what does it offer in addition to all that GC offers?
  2. I'm currently running a campag chorus 11 spd set up ordered a quark SRAM S975 and had to order 2 new chainrings, Stronglight BCD 130 in order to stay on 11 spd . Havent arrived yet, so can't comment on the performance yet...will do asap
  3. why do you say that?
  4. I can recommend this as a very good option. You will find event specific and generic type programmes, at the level you you want to perform at etc... Used it for 16 weeks for the Argus, managed a sub 3, PB was 3:36 (1990) and last year I did 3:46. Joe Friel's book is good, but I would say its better to use when you are more experienced than at novice level. http://www.fittrack.co.za/
  5. so which one of you MTB'ers was riding in VB?
  6. I managed a sub 3 (2;57)
  7. Here's hoping we dont have any serious backache's in the near future.... Herman Fouche won the Tour de Boland stage 1 ahead of Christoff van Heerden with Christoph Sauser/Johann Rabie ... http://tmi.me/7swz9 10 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply
  8. We have to ride bikes that won't get jacked!! Must be a blast on the climbs on that
  9. Never had a good Argus - 3 outings thus far 1. 1990 - 3:36 2. 2009 - 3:45 3. 2010 - 3:46 So the year I was doing National Service still remains my fastest Maybe 2011 will see that elusive sub 3 finally??????? (Holding thumbs, holding thumbs) Won't be back soon if I achieve that......... just too expensive to be worth it
  10. 1.88m 94 kg's 58 cm Pina 60 cm Trek 21" 29er
  11. just shy of 58 km's 1000m+ climbing, tough outing on the best of days, can only start after gates open @ 7:00, so normally quite hot and almost always windy!!
  12. I'll hold you to that!
  13. gosh no, not again??
  14. You mean, you allow me to pass you and you dont even introduce yourself.......... Next time!! Ja it was good one yesterday. Last 30 k's was certainly a lot harder than the first 70 odd
  15. ja, as always - very well organised!! Big thanks
  16. How do you work that out? I rode A - finished in 2:30, I see Cat 3 finshed in 2:32... They started 10 mins behind us? Not sure how you get to your answer, but I can assure you they didnt. Maybe the backmarkers yes, but likewise we caught some Cat 2's...... But lets not allow facts to get in the way of a good story (rumour)
  17. Coming out of Heidelberg on the Nigel road the route is a bit bumpy with a few undulations. Then you turn left of that road pass Duduza (or some township ??) , before you join Heidelberg rd that takes you back to Carnival C.On the section past the township is a shortish nasty uphill, which will certainly punish you for overcookin the first part of the race, and it will split any bunch. But other than that, no major hills no
  18. cyclelab website, see races entered, click on the race...........
  19. ya, saw it now too late start - eish! hot hot hot by that time already
  20. 7:49? u sure that's not a typo?
  21. For beginners its a good race. Not too many climbs at all. Have a look at the actual difference in the bottom and top of those spikes........ not much at all. Def a fast, flattish race.
  22. Yesterday on stage 1 it was all well done CSA and they didn't shy away from taking the glory for it. Today a total mess and they start playing the blame game immediately.... cops this, motorists that. This after out president tried to convince all that sooooo much attention to detail has been paid, etc.... less poetry and more work done - is what I say. But hey, its much nicer to appear on telly than get yr hands dirty. Almost like what our government is masters at. How many fun rides do you know of that has been cancelled due to poor organising? I cant name one. FFS - there is a mass fun ride with 20000+ riders through the streets of JHB every year, also on a sunday. How is that possible? Oh - I know - its attention to detail and people who actually know what they doing that organises it. As if the cancelling of the stage wasn't enough, the flight arrangements are a total mess too. Europcar asked to get of the plane, Dusty Day and some Burgos rider left behind as there is no bookings for them. Europcar threatening to abandon and go home. Wonder who will get the blame now - the airline?? Fact is, no one wants to see this tour to be a flop, but seems CSA is just not concerned enough - as if the sponsors that wanna get involved in cycling is queing at their door! Hope it changes for the good for the remainder, as this might be the last T of SA But Africa isnt for sissies and we will be positive, until proven otherwise
  23. Condolences to the family Rick. You in our prayers bud!!
  24. I rode in A and I can tell you from what I saw - and I finished in the main bunch - so I was pretty much part of the race the whole way, the tandems were also just to glad to be riding in the bunch and not on the front. The first 10/15 k's certainly had us all at the edge of our seats with the pace, but it wasnt long before the A riders passed the tandems and due to the nature of the route they didnt make the pace that much. So I have no doubt that they aided with the pace, but I also doubt its the 20 mins advantage that some have claimed here. Last week A also ave in excess of 40, so its not that much faster is it? It worked in the favour of both, more so for the tandems that would have been dropped who now had some A bunchers wheels to hang on to........
  25. lol was hectic ja great ride sien ek - netjies!! gaan jy sat b& d doen?
