  1. As a roadie, I also use a lot of races for training. One can only plan and race x number of "A" races per year. The rest are treated as "B or C" (ie , less important)races and part of the training for the "A's". Fancy word is periodisation.... My advice would be, use as much of the road races as you can for training.
  2. of course they are, they are hubbers...... I have always thought all hubbers are biased. how else do we continuously fight about eveyrthing (ok differ might be a better word)
  3. was piss cold this morn....... min 2.0, max 11, ave 3.4 eina, eina, eina!!
  4. thanks for making my afternoon a little shorter peeps. LOL Its amazing how some people(unfortunately the majority) try and reason this mess out I know they are xyz, but hey, I'd rather waste my vote(which I claim to have fought for for many years etc)on voting for themand ensuring that they continue stuffing their faces and lining their pockets, than vote with my brain, and ensure a difference is made. Visit CT and observe, visst any other city in SA then and observe.......... now compare the findings what you will see is that CT is different, why, cause the city is clean. Why? How come JHB isn't? Must a race thing hey............. wake up man, you will one day, when its too late, then think back to these and similar discussions and realize..... they were actually right or maybe just maybe they had a point it has got buggerall to do with race.......... its whether or not the rulers of that city can or cant change the conditions and with that the lives of people for the better but don't waste yr time reading this as you won't agree, so just as I am miffed at myself wasting time to even try and explain sure the roads will be tarred, sure the toilets will be closed, sure everything will happen only till end of today after election day.............. nothing will happen, and it will be the same as its been in the last 4.5 yrs, till 6 months before the next municipal or national election. But if that satisfies you, so be it I am fortunate(in the media industry) to see the thoughts of both sides of both unhappy ANC supporters and the very happy ones. Guess what these people are all from the same race group. At least it shows that a lot more have woken up from their dreams and are seeing the realityfor what it is. One day the scale will tilt and everyone in this country will have a better life for all.....without the current ruling party
  5. Thanks I was looking at the ad bottom left of page https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum/store/ T
  6. Matt What has happened to the windjammers, I dont see that as an option(only see bibs and shirts)? Have you decided against it?
  7. Get the Trek/Gary Fisher Cobia HT, tubeless, pedals, cages, barends- paid less than R 12k.
  8. Get your power to weight ratio higher and make hill repeats/intervalls part of your weekly training if you only train 3 days a week, make 1 of those 3/4 hill repeats of at least 7 mins or longer do it for 4 weeks and report back........ you'd be pleasantly surprised. PM if you want more proof of how this helped me improve over 4 mins on a specific hill
  9. If a rider is able to sit on my wheel, so be it. Happy for him. Don't understand why it should be an issue. Greet and offer a wheel, or at least to ride together. I have met some awesome peeps this way and if I can help a fellow rider to get home, why not?? Sometimes we are just waaaaaayyyy to serious for ourselves.

  11. All the fall and the other "mistakes" he made confirms is that even people we regard as superhuman can and will eventually make mistakes. Cancelara failed at Paris R - everyone gets his/her off day.
  12. you take the northern one, closest to the N3. park at the hotel, go back as you came in, when you pass over the cattle grid, turn left. its idiot proof if you are able to read yes, and if you know the road rules eg one way sign etc... good luck
  13. they know its goodbye 70% of their weekend income if they deny the cyclists
  14. its a no brainer - there is only one answer plenty jeeptrack and farmroads etc available and yes, I am also a roadie
  15. well done, great effort get hold of Gertjie Harmse, he will assist

  17. 20&21 Aug
  18. I suck technically - BIG TIME! Only rode the 29er on the road - maybe 5 rides of 45 k's, then went off road for the first time, and raced the R42 in Nigel. (This after not having been off road since winter '10). Finished high up in the field, will give the bike the credit it deserves
  19. 187, Trek/GF Orbia - entry level stuff, 13kg's, but boy oh boy - confidence improved by 100%
  20. I echo yr thoughts Mark. Can ride power, so I find climbing easier - technical climbing that is.
  21. Being a roadie that plays off road a few times a year, I am technically retarded and sh#t scared of anything remotely rocky descends etc... So a poofter in other words However,I recently got rid of my 26HT and bought a 29er HT. Took it off road for the first time on sunday at the R42 race in Nigel. The confidence this bike gave me was huge, I can't say it handles worse in the singletrack sections, but on the dirt roads, and the more tchnical stuff its CHAMPION. I had a ball and have no doubt it was the better decision for me. I am a big 1.87m, 94 kg oke, so the bigger bike suits me well, and I finished 5th in Vets, so the bike is fast too I suppose as with all things in life and cycling, its diff strokes for diff folks
  22. Its part of our daily training routes...... very very sad indeed may he RIP
