  1. Cnr Beach & Marais @ 6am. Leisurely being the operative word as the legs are stuffed from the gun run. Chubba should be keen as well.
  2. Its a great event. The water is a lekker temp and the water quality is superb. The bike is pretty flat but the run has a nasty hill right in the beginning. Wish I could do it again this year, but alas we now live in the Cape.
  3. Check out the hammer hamper I have for sale https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/12331-hammer-nutrition-hamper/ Any takers? Price is neg
  4. Respect dude but Jodie Swallow is not hot
  5. No link. I came to that conclusion based on the shape of the tubing. All the other aero bikes have very bladed like tubing and the foil, while slightly bladed, is more square. My opinion is based solely on the look of the bike. I haven't ridden all those bikes except the Felt AR which I own.
  6. A real triathlete wont draft, drafting is reserved for roadies who cant TT
  7. Being a bit of a self confessed foody I have always toyed with the idea of making my own energy bars as opposed to swallowing down whatever the manufacturers make for us. I'm not saying the products out there are rubbish I just think there are so many added ingredients to keep them fresh, soft etc which we as humans can do without in this world of fast food. Last night I made my first batch which to be honest tasted great but because I never baked them they didn't set properly. They hold their shape but no crunch when you bite into them. No idea how they will perform during an event but given the contents of them I think they should do ok. Recipe: 1 cup crunchy peanut butter 1 cup honey 3 cups raw oats 1 cup whey protein powder Put the honey and peanut butter in a saucepan and heat until it becomes liquid. Add the oats and protein powder and mix well. Lay over a sheet of baking paper and smooth out to about 1 cm thck. Allow to cool and then cut into desired size and shape. For my first batch I was pretty chuffed, but want to know everyone else's thoughts and recipes.
  8. The foil doesn't seem to be as aero looking as the other aero frames on the market like the Felt AR, Cervelo S of Spez Venge. That being said its a seriously pretty bike. Cant comment on the ride quality.
  9. I agree with you 100% on the entry fee. The races are very expensive to enter and also dont forget that you sometimes have to spend a night there or travel by car/plane to East London and PE. As for the equipment and the cost of all the latest gizmos and gadgets to help you go faster, well that's just life unfortunately.
  10. Load of hogwash that. Every sport in life has morons who take part in it. Triathlon is no exception. Triathlon is more a way of life than anything else. Besides, life is just too short for one sport.
  11. Weather forecast for tom morning looks a bit dodgy, but i reckon make the call when we wake up. Any takers? 6am cnr beach and marais. Suikers and back or a climbing session of note.
  12. Are you 100% sure its from the STI? It could be a cable on your frame vibrating. I havent had any issues with my STI's, but I can imagine it be extremely frustrating.
  13. Think its between 5 and 10% if I'm not mistaken. Personally I think its over rated and you only really feel it when going the other way round, from the coast up to altitude. The difficulty of the route will make up for the difference you may feel.
  14. I have the avid juicy ultimates and they work fine. If I was buying new brakes I would get the Formula R1's but I was reading the other day that there are now the Formula Ovals or something like that. Maybe wait a while for those to come out.
  15. Is this thread for real? I understand you all want to do the IM, but having to take pain killers before/during the event is absolutely ridiculous. Pain killers and anti inflammatory's put huge strain on your kidneys and throwing in an IM on top of that is ridiculous. Further, pain killers and anti inflammatory drugs can and probably do contain banned substances for racing, so to add to the damage you doing to your kidneys you also racing illegally. Bottom line, race slower or recover enough over the next few weeks/months to ensure you are pain free on race day.
  16. I was in Ireland a few weeks ago and went to the chain reaction retail store which was opened in Belfast. The stuff there was pretty cheap, especially for spares and clothing. My advice pack light, research prices beforehand and then go wild when you there. Make sure you cut all the labels with the prices off else the guys at customs may have a field day with you. You can buy a bike while you there, just try ride it and get it a bit dirty so SARS dont think its new. Bottom line, the world is a small place and pricing is becoming more similar each year. The biggest differences I found was obviously food and drink. That aside, stuff was pretty much the same price BUT THE VARIETY IS INSANE!
