  1. Just doing some googling and cam across some negatives of Linseed Oil: 1) Sometimes linseed oil can take forever to dry... or stays sticky or doesn't dry at all!! 2) No UV (ultraviolet) light resistance... 3) Linseed oil is mildew food... 4) Linseed oil does not harden sufficiently 5) Difficult to remove from wood... Is this a concern? Worried about the UV protection it's the lapa poles which is obviously outside. The Woodoc 30 looks like a good option
  2. Nothing like having multiple opinions to make the decision easy on what to go for... .
  3. This is what I am going to buy for my New bike (Trance Advanced): Front: Schwalbe Magic Mary Evo Snakeskin TrailStar TL 27,5 x 2,35" Rear: Schwalbe Rock Razor Snakeskin PaceStar TLR 27.5 x 2.35" I think this will be awesome. Agree?
  4. Seems to be a divide between the oil and Sealant. I am non the wiser as my wood knowledge is limited. Just want to revive the lapa poles without using the wrong stuff.
  5. Ok right. The poles are faded at the bottom and we get a lot of ants around then poles that annoy me immensely with their piles of sand they extract. Can't Seem to get rid of them. So can I just use Linseed oil or mix it with Turps as V12Man suggested? What does the Turps Do?
  6. Yes, would think this falls under the common sense umbrella.
  7. Had to google that..haha..thanks.
  8. The linseed is available at the likes of Builders I gather? A cloth? Would a paint brush work? Domestic engineer.....lol...is that what they are called now?
  9. Thought I would ask here as it is wood related: What can I use to treat my lapa wooden poles? Some have started to look rather bare (the coating seems to have gone, not sure how else to say it) at the bottom. I know of Creosote but that stuff is pungent and not good for the skin. I have little children so don't want them touch or licking the poles with that stuff...lol Do I need to sand them first (please say no) and then apply or can I just apply? Thanks
  10. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. This third chap was so adamant on the stem and asked for banking details and then quiet. Not a word out of him after a few messages to him. I mean really, why? I am sure there are guys that just do this for fun.
  11. So im in a stuggle now: i had a guy interested in something i was selling and asked if i could keep it for him for a few days. I said yes. He then came back to be amd said its not the right size stem for him. Fine, no issues. I offered it to the second chap who showed interest. At the same time i had another chap wanting it urgently so told him he is third in line. The second guy in line did not respond in almost two days so offered to the third chap. We exhanged details amd he said he would pay as we agreed. Then chap two came back to me saying he is still interested sobyold him in offered to chap three as i did not hear from him and we was ok with that. Now chao three has gone quiet after two messages to him asking when he will make payment but no response. What now? Do i go back to chap two and look like a fool? Why do they do this to me?
  12. Where is that? Wouldn't mind joining next time -
  13. Can't go wrong with these things. Bought mine a good few months ago and they are awesome...now just need to save for their buddies 5-10..lol
  14. I think I set ours at about 60 degrees. It was at like 70 degrees when we moved in. I don't think we Drain the geyser often as we shower and only bath the little ones (not a lot of water in the bath). Ok so I timer is a good option then
  15. It's not on a timer. I have the pool pump on a timer though. I was always under the impression that switching the geyser on and off uses more electricity to get the water back up to temp as when it is off then the water cools down and take more power to heat up again. Or I am I missing something here?
  16. That's what I read about the geysers but other articles I read say the geyser blanket helps a lot...mmmhhh. Will consider doing the pipes.
  17. The mention of the geyser has sparked a question: I have been considering for a while now if getting a geyser blanket and insulating the copper pipes will actually result in a noticeable saving in electricity. I have read mixed reviews on this and don't know if it is really worth it (cannot afford the solar option).
  18. It would be nice to plaster it but that does not solve the height issue for privacy. Adding a few more levels of brick is too expensive.
  19. Yes, I've seen the plastic wood and looks pretty cool. Is it more expensive than wood? It surely would not need any maintenance.
  20. thanks. Will be posting her soon in that thread. I have a bougenville growing in the front section but that thing got badly out of control (lack of pruning) and the branches grew all over the show and got really bushy, thorny and big.
  21. My Nephew keeps kicking his ball over that side so also want to prevent that. What are nutech sheets?
  22. Well I am no too concerned about people climbing the wall that side as the neighbors have electric fencing on their side (you can't see it in the picture). Its really the privacy I want. Would the wooden things no need maintenance like oil and stuff? What else could I grow along the wooded things that grow fast but are light so they don't ruin the wood?
  23. Are Bougainvilleas evergreen? They the thorny plants with the pink flowers right?
  24. Something like this
  25. Nice Thread and I have a question. We has this single layer, staggered brick wall separating us from the neighbors. It has barb wire on the top and some thick creeper growing along that made a nice screen as we are slightly lower than the neighbors. Eventually the barbwire fell of and brought the creeper with it (this was when we have a few thunderstorms and bad winds). the wall is now really bear and we are rather exposed that side. I wasn't to put something up to act a screen. What could I use that is cost effective and relatively immediate. Was thinking of planting a row of trees/shrubs but not sure that would look good and would take long for the trees/bushes to form a screen. Also the lawn section is rather narrow so don't want to take too much away from the lawn. Was also thinking some wooden sections but too much maintenance and expensive. I have attached a pic where you can see the wall in the background and past the lonely tree is the very bare wall. Just ignore the bike in the picture
