  1. The religious issue is a hectic one....to be trapped in a marriage for life because of a relgious vow and fear of hellfire is sad, when one partner does not pull their weight. The other partner is left to either abondon their faith or live a life fufilling their vow to unconditionally respect and honour the other partner. There is a word for lifelong service like this of the unconditional kind.....its called slavery. This is in terms of folks that take the "till death we part" very literally.
  2. I see your point. My point is that marriage has two facets...the legal contact and the vow two people make to each other and sometimes before their god as well. Its the vowing part I cant do. I dont want to make lifelong vows I cannot be certain I can keep.
  3. Very true. To vow to love someone for the rest of your life is insane. I think marriage licences should be like drivers licences that naturally expire after a certain period of time. Couples can choose to renew if they want to. Going forward..the best I could ever offer someone will be my today...tomorrow who knows? I want to always be free to have that choice.
  4. Rode the hiking trails at the Umgeni Nature Reserve today.
  5. A while ago I needed to replace my chainrings and front derailer on my mtb. The cost of three chainrings and the derailer caused me to consider tossing the derailer away and getting a 34T oval from rapide. Besides being the cheaper option, I love the way the bike feels. Initially it felt like I had to work harder but I got used to it and now have a much smoother ride.

Thanks for the help! As for the fishing stories....the bites were huuuuge the one I caught not really..... probably the smallest recorded ever! This little guy was released.

I tried trout fishing a few weeks ago and again this past weekend. The bug is biting. I can really get into this. But I need some serious casting practice on the lawn to get my line out further.
  9. Life is a funny thing.....divorce is one of those things you never expect to happen to you until it does....and often it is no ones fault really..either somebody changes or they dont change...both things can be the problem. Sometimes many years later things just dont work anymore..... once the hurt feelings are put aside and the kids are put first it is easier to move forward. Landy...I hope all the best for you and hope the dust settles quickly....you deserve to be happy and in the end you will be.
  10. I think I have the record for abstaining from strava the longest...Im going onto four months now.....????
  11. Hi there! Next year we must have another challenge so that some of us can try again. ????
  12. Well done to everyone who have stuck to the challenge even if they missed a few days here and there. Cant beleive the year is nearly over and the challenge is coming to an end. Ill redeem myself on next yearschallenge!
  13. Pm sent
  14. I went seed collecting in the mountains today. Came across an old barbed wire fence which had caught about twenty 'tumbleweeds' These come from a beautiful bulb that flowers in the spring. All the seeds were gone, blown away by the wind. Missing you Barry xxx
  15. I heard some jobergers talking about suikerbosrand last weekend and found the segment on strava. 1200m is alot of climbing for a 57km loop. The steepest gradient I found was only 13.7% If Im not mistaken. The gradients seem fine, but I think the combination of the altitude and the lack of any flats to recover would hurt most people . I would be keen to give this ride a go. The scenery looks amazing
  16. Sunday afternoon ride around Midmar Dam with Chainsaw and Ironinthesoul. Flat ride but quite windy. The game are so tame. Great way to end a week.
  17. I miss Barry. Nothing more to say
  18. I've seen lots of fb posts of folks that went mtbing instead. I'm sure Tokai was very busy today
  19. I also got one of those. I'm irratated now that I deleted a pic of him with his head in my glass.
  20. Morning mtb ride in Karkloof. First photo is at sunrise. The distant hills just peeking out of the mist are where we climbed to. Up Lebanon and Mount Gilboa. Second photo....stunning weather and crystal clear views from the top. 80km 1300m climbing
  21. ***** We don't normally ride in the middle of the road like this. The first few minutes were very dark and my light was too weak so Chainsaw rode to light my way. ****Plus Howick is dead before 6am
  22. I cant get my head around the whole e bike thing. I cant relate to it as a bicycle, only as rubbish, poorly performing motorbike. I dont want to offend anybody ......genuine, I just think it is a marketing gimmick. In Howick we have many retirement villages and there are many pensioners that mountainbike and ride road. I see them daily making the effort, some very slowly but they are a determined bunch. If they can make a 100% effort I'm sure Fatso Frank who is 40 can make the full effort too. We even have an awesome local para cyclist. After riding with him, and witnessing his determination and courage I think it would be sad to compromise and use an e bike when you have two working legs. I may be a weaker rider than my husband, that is why when we ride together he rides the ss to keep him busy.
