  1. My dear.....where do you see a spur in Howick? Or was that a typo and you meant SPAR? A few quarts in the SPAR parking lot would be very Brakpan, Germiston , ...ok whatever
  2. Maybe somewhere casual like delish dish in howick. They have a deck and a big garden for kids to run around. They also do a decent pizza. Any other suggestions? For folks keen on mtb the next day we can organise...... karkloof or howick
  3. The strava segement is called st ives dive. Piggly wiggly is at the bottom of the major descent. It descends very gently after that. I can understand why they have chosen piggly wiggly, there are many restaurants and shops and it is a pleasant spot for family to wait.
  4. Would any hubbers be keen to meet for a drink on sat evening? Not a whole evening affair, maybe just an hour to meet everyone.
  5. A finish at piggly wiggly The descent down st Ives dive is fast with a tight corner and then it is only 500m sprint to piggly wiggly. That corner is begging for trouble. Mandela site would be better even if it is a bit further....
  6. Dont worry. Chainsaw also looks like a taranchula. I'm going to pin him down and shave those legs this week. Resistance is futile
  7. I'm easy to spot. Black and red merida scultura and a pair of legs that can kickstart a boeing. You okes better say hi.....
  8. Sunday afternoon ride around Midmar Dam with Chainsaw and Ironinthesoul. Flat ride but quite windy. The game are so tame. Great way to end a week.
  9. For sure....we have two weekends left to put in some serious mileage and then the day is here!!!!
  10. So is it all still a go for the recon ride this weekend? I have already said "no" to my mtb buddies for this weekend ....because I'm banking on this this one!
  11. I've seen lots of fb posts of folks that went mtbing instead. I'm sure Tokai was very busy today
  12. I also got one of those. I'm irratated now that I deleted a pic of him with his head in my glass.
  13. Morning mtb ride in Karkloof. First photo is at sunrise. The distant hills just peeking out of the mist are where we climbed to. Up Lebanon and Mount Gilboa. Second photo....stunning weather and crystal clear views from the top. 80km 1300m climbing
  14. ***** We don't normally ride in the middle of the road like this. The first few minutes were very dark and my light was too weak so Chainsaw rode to light my way. ****Plus Howick is dead before 6am
  15. I think guys would not mind as much if a lady drafted his wheel. Men sometimes enjoy an opportunity to be chivalrous and helpful. It is still polite to ask though.
  16. I agree it may be a public road and he has the right to ride there. I also have the right to to execute a well timed sprint interval. Honestly if I'm doing my own thing and I don't want company I have the right to ride alone.
  17. You need to understand that for a strange man to not greet, then put his face up my backside and follow me on my ride is borderline stalkerish. I ride with my hands in the drops 90% of the time, and spandex does not leave much to the imagination. Respect a persons personal space. You just don't do that to a lady.
  18. If you caught up to them then you should pass them and continue along your way, there would be no need to join them. If they overtook you then it is a good thing to greet first. Followed by a "Can we work together?" This is better than "Can I join you," because it implies that you are willing to do your share of work at the front. If Im riding alone and I pass someone and they jump on my wheel without saying anything.....and they do not come to the front within the next two kays I'll get out the saddle and make a very obvious effort to sprint a good distance to get rid of them. I wont tolerate a stranger staring at my backside having a free ride.
  19. I cant get my head around the whole e bike thing. I cant relate to it as a bicycle, only as rubbish, poorly performing motorbike. I dont want to offend anybody ......genuine, I just think it is a marketing gimmick. In Howick we have many retirement villages and there are many pensioners that mountainbike and ride road. I see them daily making the effort, some very slowly but they are a determined bunch. If they can make a 100% effort I'm sure Fatso Frank who is 40 can make the full effort too. We even have an awesome local para cyclist. After riding with him, and witnessing his determination and courage I think it would be sad to compromise and use an e bike when you have two working legs. I may be a weaker rider than my husband, that is why when we ride together he rides the ss to keep him busy.
  20. You actually need four bikes, Mtb for rockyfun, Road for speed and Track for pain. And a spinbike in the lounge for when it rains for days on end Come to think of it, one good thing about riding everything is that I've got to know everyone. If you have a bike I know where you live and how many KOMS you got
  21. I'm O-. Send a pm if you need a universal donor.
  22. Are you joining us this weekend?
