  1. I heard some jobergers talking about suikerbosrand last weekend and found the segment on strava. 1200m is alot of climbing for a 57km loop. The steepest gradient I found was only 13.7% If Im not mistaken. The gradients seem fine, but I think the combination of the altitude and the lack of any flats to recover would hurt most people . I would be keen to give this ride a go. The scenery looks amazing
  2. This turned up on my fb feed today. Thought of this thread
  3. Our cycling started as together time. He justed wanted me to get into riding so that I'd give him less hell when he disappeared for five hours while I mowed the lawn. Now we basically only do the Saturday club ride together. Besides that we enjoy different types of riding and ride with other people. I'll go spin at gym and race track- he's not interested in that at all. But he gets these 7pm wattsapps from his mate to organise a ride the next morning. Then they go destroy each other and come home like limping beaten dogs. Thats his thing. Im glad we can each do our own thing and we don't get offended with each other. We do have to share the cycling budget and I was the last to buy a bike so suppose it is his turn next
  4. Please don't do what my husband did two weeks ago. I was really pushing myself on a long hill and he was riding alongside me. Suddenly he wanted to chat and asked all sorts of irritating questions that cannot be answered with a simple "yes" or "no". I told him to go away.
  5. What a great day on the bike. Thanks to e everyone that came. Hubbers are great folk!
  6. A carbon track bike is a beautiful thing. No brakes, calipers, cables or cassettes. Perfectly aero. With super low narrow handlebars so you shoulders are low and your elbows in tight.
  7. I got a ride invite this afternoon. I work mornings so I normally do kids and the domestic thing in the afternoon. Today...well um....No supper and this.... At least hubby has a sense of humour.
  8. There is nothing better than a very early hard morning ride. Go to work with your legs half numb but your mind is fully awake.
  9. Okay it took me seven hours last time..ha ha.but we started in howick and then I got lost on the loop and took a wrong turn and ended up halfway to giants castle. I'm not leading this weekend. Everyone can relax;)
  10. I hope we have all the answers we need by this weekend. We are going to have a fat jol of a ride and hopefully talk about all sorts of nonsense. I don't want to have a seven hour moan about the Le'Tape organisers.
  11. Hi Admin!! Are you okes going to make an appearance this weekend? This can't be a hub ride without some admin. Who am |I going to tattle tale to when some poep does not point out every hole?
  12. That is what I did. My 26 er is now officially a 27 er.
  13. Exactly!!! when riding a double paceline and she sits on the inside away from the cars? Please Gen!!! We will look after you
  14. P.s If You are a group admin and you change my group icon I'm going to box you and then make you carry my watterbottles on the day. 'Just saying
  15. Morning everyone.....okay lets get this thing sorted!!! Time to start sorting out details/ I'm going to set up a wattsapp group this morning. Pm me your no. and Ill add you. Please indicate if you would like to be made an admin so that you can add other friends or club members.
  16. Postponing the event and citing the condition of the road as the only reason is just an excuse. When we did the recon ride there is a 20km section where potholes were being filled. On the day I chose to not ride a tight bunch so that we had space to move around the odd hole, single file worked well here. I suppose racing that section would be hazardous if the holes were not filled on time. Riding it socially..... I don't see a problem. The rest of the route is beautiful, maybe we should ask Antoo to share some of his scenery photos with us?
  17. From Hilton you will be doing a decent 200km. I'm happy to hear other ladies are riding, but we can talk closer to the time about pace. Your "ladies" are probably faster than many of the guys I wont ride if Ill be slowing you guys down
  18. We would like to join if we may. Ride road one day and then take folks interested in mtb the other day. Gen consider riding with Gerald. Eventhough there will not be full road closure he is very experienced and will keep you safe. Plus I don't want to be the only girl along for this sufferfest
  19. Tom this looks like a super ride. Maybe we can organise it one day between a few clubs, backup vehicle etc etc etc. Each person contribute to costs and then contribute another amount to a charity. Will work out costing much less than an "official" event and this ride will really be an adventure
  20. You just typed it faster than me
  21. We need to compare "natal traffic" to "jhb traffic" A midlands traffic jam is a sunday doddle for gautengers.
  22. What if I just ride without my chip and I have no official result?
  23. Lidgetton is not far,it will be an easy roll to the start, however you will need to climb back up happy hill afterwards. Maybe when you arrive take a quick drive and decide for yourself
  24. And will folks who are working to getting colours get penalised?
  25. Thank you Gerald for being so proactive
