  1. I checked here. http://bcbikerace.com/news-and-media But they do not seem to have daily updates and tracking like the EPIC . . . . Anybody know of another site?
  2. My brother and another x-pat is doing it . . . . I am green with envy!!!
  3. I would honestly not mountain bike if there was not Tubeless wheels.
  4. Isn't squatting one op the possible causes of hemorrhoids . . . . ?
  5. Looks like you wife . . . . Dominates . . . . Is she the one in the Toyota Ads? . . . . And you make the sandwiches?
  6. Perspective . . If the same rant came from the a person with a shave and a shirt on, working in an office to support his wife an kid . . . . Would it also have had 32 000 views on youtube? I wonder . . .
  7. Eric Nice job with the Mongoose! Sure bring back memories. A bit off topic (sorry) but 'n would just like to confirm . . . . The other day I saw some "Mongoose" BMX'e at Sportmans Warehouse. I assume that it has NOTHING to do with the Mongoose BMX I remember form the 80's?
  8. He is actually building his dream bike . .. . not JUST dreaming, like most . . . (including me)
  9. Subscribed . . . What frame? Full Susp or Hard Tail?
  10. Honestly, he snakebited (if there is such word) a Saguaro tire at 2.1Bar and manage to dent the rim the other day. Right in front of me on a training ride. Hole next to rim and on the thread area. He Snikebited a new Saguaro (also 2.1Bar) on day-4 (Stage3) of this year 2014 Cape Epic. I kid you guys not. . . . And as mentioned he is only 73kg. I know punctures is inevitable bit as mentioned the frequency is ridiculous. I felt a bit daft when I posted this question( who can not sort out punctures) But I don't have advice any more.
  11. Legitimate question. Yes his running Tubeless with Stan's
  12. I also ride GEAX Saguaro and I like them. He tried the Saguaro. It lasted longer than the Maxxis ICON, but still not much satisfaction.
  13. This may be a dumb question . .. But I ask help on behalf a friend. He rides a Scott Spark 910 2013 He punctures ON EVERY RACE! Does not matter if its XC or marathon. Sometimes in practice as well. He literately races from puncture to puncture. He does not know what remedy next. He have tried: Different tires, went from Maxxis ICON to GEAX Saguaro 2.2. Experimented with different tire pressures . As high as tire 2.2 Bar (he is 73kg). If he goes to lower tire pressure (<1.8 Bar) , get pinch punctures, dents the rim or burps the tire of the rim. The LBS even gave him a new front rim, because at one stage he thought the rim was defective. Checked and rechecked the suspension sag. What next? Any other tires he should try? Adjust his riding style? I ride the same tires on my Genius, am 20kg heavier and never puncture?
  14. True. I pondered and posted the thread after one night of hill repeats. I thought: "Hell Man!! 10 years ago . . this #$&% hill would have been much easier!!" But I was not thinking the "Downhill form here" part. No No No . .. never say die! Though I might be past my prime, I enjoy my cycling more and the younger guys still have to hall ass to keep up! All about attitude...
  15. Lots of insight here. I realized my initial post might have came across a bit "heavy". Did not intend to hint at the stage were we are old and decrepit nor to cause "gemoeds bek@kking" for the hubbers. More like Pro, who have been a Pro for a while, and wonder how long he will still be able to be Pro. Or something like that. I can not wait for the day my son leave his old man in the dust . . . . It will be a good day! In the meantime . . . I am just having fun, while still riding as hard as I can.
  16. My older Giant Anthem have the gear indicators and avid brakes. My new Scott have the XT shifters and gear in one and there is no indicators for the gears. I think they are optional
  17. Sorry! But I just have this picture of Old Timer MTB'ers plodding along . . reminiscing about the old days. Like Cohen the barbarian from Terry Pratchett's DiscWorld.
  18. With freds like Strava Opportunist and Hard work vs Talent and most of us on Strava and chasing KOM’s. I started “sinking” We all train to better our times on a segment and compete with our friend and foe for top 10 or KOM or maybe just best of the bunch and use bears as motivation ext. We buy new bikes every now and then, get the “new” wheelsize and upgrade everything lighter and what not to be faster. Use HRM, power meters, interval, strength training and read what Dr. Jeroen Swart and Tim Noaks say. Some desperate souls even start dodgy threads about EPO for the Argus BUT As life goes on and times wears us down Surely there will come day when your new personal best will be your best/greatest and last personal best. When time and old bones catch up, and no new bike, wheel set or androgenic supplement will make you perform better or like you used to (on the bike). You will NEVER ride that time again . . . . (Without the car or the motorized wheel chair) Anyone reached or passed this point? Or have Strava not been around long enough? I’m not pondering at what age it wil be, just the fact that the last personal best will come. How will the realization of it affect one? What do you think?
  19. Wait till the road is bad again . . . then go and beat your own KOM! Then have 2 beers. KOM is nice, but rather click the "My Results" button and see if you have bettered yourself. KOM- feeling is nice BUT is really only for yourself. Nobody else really cares. There is always guys faster than you, that don't give a rats ass about strava.
  20. Right place right Time. Not any doing of yours that they scrapped the road. Any body could have been there, same as you.
  21. I always "feel/think" (no scientific back-up) the best to calibrate a barometric altimeter is to zero it when sitting/lying on the beach . . . . If not possible . . . . Do as lapa said. Get location with know altitude .
  22. Both the Schwalbes my bike came with got cuts like that in the 1st month. Stitched them up(like a cut in your skin) patched a gator (big patch) on the inside of the tube and rode them tubeless with Stan's for a while. But got new tires for a race . . . I keep them now as backup tires.
