  1. I think I get PTSD just thinking about that video. I hope the SAN parks official was sacked.
  2. An old thread but still very relevant. Not quite a thought on sealant, but tire selection-> I recently went back to a road tubeless setup and what a journey it was. I do not recommend the continental GP5000 product for two reasons: 1-that the TLR / TR range are not compatible with all tubeless road rims. They don’t seat evenly on all rims and will appear un-true on the truist wheel 🙃 2-that if you needed to put a tube in if the wheels had an unrecoverable puncture, they will not come off the rim outside of a workshop with mega tire levers. Road side you will need to call an Uber to get home. I actually ended up going back to the giant OEM tubeless tires that came with my propel, and they “just work”.
  3. I’d reinvent the segment feature: 1-public segments will be reviewed and standardised, private segments to each subscribers own desire 2-I’d make segment PB’s seasonal, I’ve been using Strava for 10yrs and don’t see myself setting new PBs anytime soon unless they become relevant to my age, season etc 3-agree with the OP, as part of public segments, I would monetise segments that cover a full race/course distance to augment official timing and instant classification after an event. I’d overhaul the equipment feature too: 1-specific maintenance reminders for all types of equipments and recorded history of maintenance conducted 2-monetise equipment upgrades and benefits based off of equipment ageing 3-build a workshop feature that bicycle merchants can use to track their clients equipment usage, and to use the platform for service records, frame warranties and billing and payments etc lastly the club feature leaderboard sucks 1-add annual distance and elevation leaders 2-allow club presidents to publish segments that club members can ride in a set time period for fun club leaderboard events 3-facilitate club premiums and memberships through a merchant model actually last last feature 1-build out a clothing/branding merchandise store that clubs and Strava localise in partnership with local brands for seasonal equipment 2-handle ordering and online payments ADIDAS - All Day I Dream About Strava😇

    99er Cycle Tour

@JM_NELhow did you fetch the dataset from Racetec? The ASP page makes it quite difficult. Great interpretation of the data! Amazing that the bulk of the groups going back to G finished in under 3hrs.

    99er Cycle Tour

I think I witnessed this too as we were arriving into Durbanville? I think the bike Marshall fell back after a while and gave some k*k back to the offenders. there was a lot of rubbing between riders at this point of the race, once the group smelt the finish you could feel the tension, thought it was awesome.
  6. Before doing anything listen to this Huberman podcast with Andy Galpin —> https://podcasts.apple.com/za/podcast/huberman-lab/id1545953110?i=1000598616717 3hrs of great advice from two of the best in sports science.

    99er Cycle Tour

Someone needs to test the contents in the water bottles of Group D btw (and it seems like certain members of Group A cruising past the elites 😁)
  8. Also curious? FWIW any 4-door car can take a bicycle or two, I’m not a fan of bike carriers, find it easier to just take the front wheel off and pack the bike behind the front seats inverted (drive side facing the front).
  9. instead of starting in Camps Bay, why don’t you start from town, better chance of a ~50km ride too? Ciovita and East City Cycles both do club rides from Woodstock to the top of suikerbossie (and I think chappies as well) during the week.

    99er Cycle Tour

I thought it was a really well organised event. The return leg from Malmsbury got a bit hairy at times with a bunch of groups coming together, opposing traffic having to pull off the road to make way was scary, but the Marshalls did a sterling job of managing the traffic.

    Shoe repair

This is worth a watch to try ask a shoe repair shop to tackle the repair for you—>
  12. http://en.all-specs.net/model/1062547/ is this your bike? looks like straight steerer with 27.5” wheels. Looks like a quick release wheel mount too. not that you’re asking, but, I’d recommend selling the bike, add cost of upgrade fork and get another bike 29” wheels and TA etc etc not sure if upgrading your bike will be worth it unless you’re in a breakage situation. Titan are doing really good bikes at the R12k mark.
  13. a bit of a non helpful tangeant to the OP, but i relevant, a colleague in Nairobi was looking for a bike and ran into glue for help with shipping when he was down here on a business trip. Its amazing to me how most travellers dont know they have a sporting equipment allowance - my colleague now knows and with great ease just took a boxed bike back with him to be built by his LBS in nairobi. (and recently took the bike with him to NYC). My point? 1 - online/remote ordering can let you down 2 - retail is far from dead 3 - if you want something done properly, go micro manage the sh*t out of it at the store until the get it right (more often these days than not).
  14. jeepers, keen to know how Atlehang managed to do that! the reba is a strong fork!
  15. Thought id try take the edge off this thread for the sake of @RobertWhitehead - Eish too late. Love em or hate em, the comments in the classifieds used to help newbs adjust their ads, now its just driven to abuse.
  16. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bikes/499223/giant-tcr?referrer=top this giant runs Shimano iOS, the collaboration Groupset designed with Apple.
  17. This was my first Ride Joburg-definitely a race of the second half. Yes there was a head wind (for me it felt like it was coming from all directions), but most of the climbing started at Kyalami and did not relent. The Climb up from Zoo lake was the start of most of the pain - at that point all the folks attacking the hills were seemingly kaput. I would say this event is not near the organisation of CTCT - from the entry system not forcing the purchase of the mandatory race board (resulted in a mega queue to buy one at registration), to the Expo itself which didnt neatly have separate cubicles for each seeding group for registration, to the parking situation at Nasrec which had me feeling somewhat insecure, to the finish line, and forced tour-of-victory through the cooking hot FNB stadium (those tunnels were a disaster waiting to happen). The route is really a representation of JHB, but felt really bad for all the traffic it caused, i dont know how the organisers managed to get road closures on those roads for most of the day. Thank you to the Jozi residents that accommodated us though. All my complaining, will definitely be back though.
  18. Same Same - instead i flog mine on gumtree and use the proceeds towards real tech 😆
  19. Completely agree with you, it doesn’t need to be an “OR” discussion, no issues with it being “AND”. That said, if Garmin were to make phone hardware, on a stable version of Android, id be interested to see what they could do with Hardware/OS vertical integration. I feel like Garmin could be something way more, no doubt the speed with which they make new technology available, on a stable platform is up front among the makers. You dont buy apple products to use any of their k*k application software, its the marriage between hardware and OS they have nailed across phone, iPad, laptop, watch, AirPods etc etc They leave the last mile efforts to the App Store, which has increasingly become a per annum subscription pain in the but. You get hit hard for the hardware investment in terms of cost, and then they hand you to paid subscriptions to make it useful. I personally am mostly in vested in Googles software on top of all my Apple products, nowadays i live in a multi window chrome browser on my Mac Pro too. It’s a matter of time before a similar company comes along to do the same.
  20. Whats dishonest? eBikes have opened up cycling to an entire community that previously would not be interested in cycling. More so, you can absolutely still get a workout on an ebike without breaking yourself, which allows you to ride more often. Pedal assisted bikes are not motor bikes - its time we honestly stop with the naivity around this new segment of rider.
  21. No doubt social media has its addictions, the need for "look at me" is deep seeded in all of our brains. If you turn it into a positive, like what strava can and does inspire, and dont see it as a bad thing, motivation has changed my health for the better on the completely other side of the spectrum. Instagram and Facebook selfies are where the potential non productive/mental health issues lie, but not on strava IMO
  22. @_David_ and @Jbr - totally get that reviewers on google have said otherwise, to be honest to believe that an oura ring has better HR reading capability than anything before it makes me question this dataset. Im talking your actual experience - reliability on actual riding conditions, both products etc accuracy when the device is moving around on your wrist, long rides etc not in a lab on a spinning bike or whatever these paid youtubers are asked to do.
  23. personal experience of owning both devices or youtube/google opinion? dont mean to be rude but have you actually had multiple apple watches and garmin fenix's to call me out? i have and from my own experience, the apple watch has been unreliable, significantly better since the series 3, but no comparison to my fenix products (my 6x pro was not the best, but still very reliable), the fenix 7 just being absolutely next level.
  24. Couldnt agree more, $800 is awefully close to the cost of a Garmin Fenix 7X Pro which has topo maps, solar, easily 2 weeks of battery life with frequent use, incomparable reliability when it comes to position tracking, heart rate data - most of all - the built in torch ive learnt i cannot live with out! 🤣 Apple bragging about crash detection, years after Garmin brought it out makes me laugh. Apples launch in 2025 for the Apple Watch Series 11 / Ultra Series 3 "Bike Light Radar integration, topo maps and solar" - Garmin crowd be like 🙄
  25. I dont have an issue with e-bikers taking KOM's on downhill trail/enduro segments - i applaud them navigating 20kg rigs and beating the non assisted bikers ... thats a top 10 deserved.
