  1. Last design before moving on ... Strykhoogte Pass is that tiny bump compared to Galge 🤯
  2. Turned out ok 👌🏻
  3. last year was more or less the same prediction, turned out to be sunny and awesome.
  4. This is based off the 50miler i did last year - does seem like damp/drizzle conditions for the morning.
  5. to make the plate frame-able, ive taken away the elevation from Galge, so left enough behind to emphasize the climb but it fits into a normal picture frame
  6. if triathlon is his thing, rather skip to a Garmin Fenix 6X also the varia 515 works well by itself in high flash modes, it changes its pattern as cars approach, and arguably causes the behaviour change from cars that makes road riding more comfortable (im not sure what we can really do if a car is approaching other than hug the curb more)
  7. Slightly Improved model - will post actual print shortly -->
  8. Getting ready to print the gallows route, insane just how high that galge climb is in relation to the rest of the route seeing it in 3D - i dont think ive seen another route like this 🥵
  9. https://www.strava.com/routes/3225778262533755908 Strava route 👆 for official 2024 Event. Vrolijkheid nature reserve no longer on the route.
  10. Printed this for a fellow hubber - turned out okish - lmk if there are hubbers out there that want something similar for an event they've done - the idea is to mount this in a picture frame.
  11. Agree completely - marginal games is absolutely a thing. Even Matt Beers had to adjust his game to compete - his interview on Trainer Road was super enlightening.
  12. Im using a 4th generation iPad Air with an A14 processor (Neural Engine etc). I leave the iPad plugged in on charge as its quite easy to run flat during a session, often before a 2hr session even completes from 100%. Ive got graphics set to max Im using a Kickr Bike for power, cadence, headwind (fan) and gradient control and my Garmin Fenix for HR. Ive not had the app freeze on me in a long time, that said i probably use MW for only a couple of sessions a month, it is increasing now as Winter sets in, Im surprised to hear of the crashes above.
  13. Im curious to hear more about your travels to other cycling cultures where its any different. I mean, do you even Dylan Johnson bro 😝
  14. "Knob Height" cant make this sh*t up
  15. https://sweetsonline.co.za/product/sqeezy-condensed-milk/?utm_source=Google Shopping&utm_campaign=Google Feed&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=9731&srsltid=AfmBOoqTDHgJ6Rt3gW0JuBwzHyy53t_fbdEqOAGTsLDIN5SqxxAQ7TJEHJE Lactose and Sucrose - what could go wrong? My childhood beckons
  16. I use refuel for drink, wouldn’t change this. So far the gels are not needing any “washing down”, they’re not thick as some gels like GU. i also plan in at least 2-3 solid eats, like bars, to alternate macros.
  17. Giving these a try leading up to use at Gallows next Saturday. Im mostly excited about less packaging waste accumulation in my bibs/pockets etc
  18. https://www.specialized.com/za/en/epic-expert-carbon-evo/p/171234?color=264128-171234 looks great - depends on price really. FWIW the current model Evo is 120mm at the rear and no brain 🧠, you might find the 2020 model as hard as your previous epic, even with fox 34 120mm fork.
  19. What recognition are you referring to? A number of iron men / xco / gravel champ qualifiers go unnoticed for their efforts and hard earned cash spent to attend champ invitationals for nothing other than self satisfaction/achievement/goals - everything else is temporary no? Hold up tiger - Gravel is still a very recent olympic sport, and consider that the gran fondo entrants for this years swartberg was double that of last year. Looking at this picture, its still not alot ... (Yes thats the entire gran fondo group, there was no seeding etc)
  20. Whats the longest multi-hour session you would have/will do before an endurance event of >6hrs? And how frequently will you attempt that volume to establish your nutrition approach actually works? Kudos to you if you actually periodise your nutrition training leading up to an event, my suspicion is that many of us (especially myself) dont do enough of this, so when a multi hour event doesnt pan out as expected, we might discount that we had actually not ever trained for that volume of exertion in the first place.
  21. The next best economic option for us ZA's stuck on a green mamba is to do the Kenya leg --> https://ucigravelworldseries.com/en/naivasha/ R9k return flights to Nairobi from CPT ~R5k for accomodation in Nairobi R4k for event entry and transport from Nairobi
  22. The flavors tho - i wish more brands would just do neutral flavors so we can use a tab to create our own flavor preference (Ive been using ReFuel for this single purpose, great product in terms of bang for the buck). Me too - but - the macros are not the same as the Choc variant Steri Stumpie - placebo or not, single handedly my best recovery drink.
  23. Reminds me of the Hammer Flask --> https://hammernutrition.com/blogs/endurance-news-weekly/hammer-gel-jug-and-flask
  24. Only if you qualified for worlds - it sucks for me being in the most hotly contested age group .... 45-49 😂
  25. Chatting to a pro recently, especially for endurance racing, cyclic dextrin should be on your research list. (Jlab on Take Alot seems recommended). Its one thing placing all those carbs in your gut, its another processing it for hours on end, arguably as important to "train" as actual training.
