  1. Really chuffed with this Build, collected today. Built by Neville at nSquared, frame is a no.2 serialised de Rosa sessanta 60th birthday edition, campy chorus 12 speed groupset and campy hyperon wheel set. these pictures don’t do the bike justice.
  2. I’d have this over AXS any day. I think DI2 and hyper glide are still the groupset to beat. interesting that dura ace no longer available in mechanical shifting from this generation onwards, but, still supports rim brakes.
  3. The gravel grinders are recruiting - regular rain, mud, wind experience a must, and a beard! ????????
  4. Im going to hope you're right and Windy is wrong ... forecast for Fri, Sat and Sunday in Wellington looking a tad moist ☔️
  5. appreciate the sarcasm, mine wasnt though, there literally is a ton of information on this forum in which the thread starts about strava and ends up talking about the merits of other products. your sentiment should return to this space on friday where your type seems to prosper (aka keyboard warriors)
  6. Weather looking like it will hold - could easily change closer to the time:
  7. Wow - looks like Arthur Shelby was into his racing before becoming a Birmingham Gangster ...
  8. Just entered - last chance, entries close at 0900 tomorrow. Weather looks like it will hold out for a decent event. My PPA Seeding is sitting at F at the moment, hopefully they dont drop me further down the ranks after a miserable drought of training and events ...
  9. same here - have only had pleasure dealing with Roubaixworld. Ordering a size up feels like the norm from european brands, sometimes two. I once had a bib where the castelli scorpion was peeling off, Even though i had used it a couple of times and washed it, Roubaix replaced free of charge (including shipping). I normally burn the credit card when their specials run.
  10. Had to paste this here - sorry! I tend to mostly agree with the vandals in this hood though ...
  11. Picture of the bike mounted on the trainer? For powder coating and decals this really looks good.
  12. Not 100% relevant to a disc brake wheel, but one thing I take away from this video is that there are extremely few scenarios worth fixing. Im going to send the wheel to carbon repair for an assessment before turfing the rim for a new one.
  13. Anyone here have experience with having a deep section (65mm) carbon rim repaired? Seemed risky, but tried a repair anyway, got the wheel back yesterday. It didn’t even survive being pumped up before I noticed (and heard) this bulge form. Is it better to just rebuild the wheel with new rim?
  14. I only entered three weeks ago. The organisers set a precedence last year about entry rollover, so as i saw it, entering now was good as an entry in the bank for this or next year. In terms of decision, the ability to run this event was already in doubt at Lockdown Level 3 with 100 person limits for outdoor events, literally the next day the Around the Pot (Om die Pod) organisers made a call, yet the Knysna cycle tour continued to take money off of people until now. In the end its not the first time many of us have donated entry fees to charity, its a solid win-win, but i think the organisers for the Knysna cycle tour are a little dodge on this one ...
  15. Great comment, and really could end this thread in its tracks. Time is money as they say, i often ponder why i encounter so many rich guys selling their equipment for cheap, i think value hunting is quite relative, what one guy takes the time to buy and resell for a tidy R5k profit might be one guys night out on a Friday. Then there are ads here with little to no savings margin over what a new item costs, yet their are hubbers that will wait for these opportunities without caring to google how easy it may be to have something new and delivered for convenience (my goto example are tires, probably the single best new bang for the buck you can invest in your bike, yet the second hand space is quite active here). Switching gears slightly, what i find quite controversial is how easy and cheap it is to import new bike parts undercutting local distribution by 50% - we live in a global market, i find it ludicrous that the South African bike market is so over priced.
  16. There is a missing element to this equation. My local bike shop likes to say: "Buy nice things and you will use them". Each person has their own definition of that this means, but i generally find in the bike space that nice things arent cheap. I get that you dont need to chase bike weight as a goal, aero and rolling resistance is everything, but really in the expensive bike space, you can really be cheap for a bike <9.0kgs, and you can be expensive for a bike that weighs >8.5kgs (New Tarmac SL7 Comp at R75k, with AXS Rival weighs 8.5kgs before pedals for instance, but for <R40k you can buy a scott that weighs less than that with rim brakes - the SL7 is a beauty and will sell out, the demand for the perfectly spec'd scott will not be nearly the same). The point that this video makes is actually quite dated. Somewhere in the youtube universe is a video that is more accurately titled "how to spend the right money for just the correct amount of niceness to enjoy your bike".

    [Event] Around the Pot

Press Release Good day Around The Potters, Thank you for your patience regarding updates for this year’s event. As you know, The President’s announcement on Tuesday 15’th June affects our event as our number of participants is well over the Level 3 allowed limit of people at an outdoor gathering (100). With the suspicion and threat of having even stricter measures implemented, it has become extremely difficult to continue planning, preparing, and hosting ATP 2021. We are worried that the sharp and recent rise in Covid case numbers around the country and the Swellendam region has such an effect that we can no longer host this event in a manner that is safe for all concerned. Rider safety is our number one concern, as well as the fact that we must consider the safety of our crew, supporters, service providers and community. This kind of decision puts everyone under a great deal of stress. We as organizers want nothing more than for Around The Pot 2021 to go ahead as scheduled and bring you a world class gravel race again, however, under the current circumstances, it is not possible to continue planning for an event that cannot legally, and morally take place. We assure you that we have not taken this decision lightly and that we have been speaking to all the role players, attempting to find a way around this and have unfortunately come up empty, unless the Lockdown Level was to change and Covid numbers decreased – which of course, we have no certainty or control over. We truly wish we had a more positive announcement to make, and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this will cause you. ALL entries will automatically carry over to the next event, without any further costs. We are grateful to you for your overwhelming support. To our sponsors, who continue to back us in what is proving to be another devastating year for all of us as Event Planners, we cannot say thank you enough. ATP is incredibly grateful to have sponsors who stand behind us through thick and thin and backing us also in this decision. We are looking at options and a new date will be announced as soon as we can. Keep up the fitness and stay riding, we look forward to pushing you to your limits soon. Stay safe and healthy, The Around The Pot Team
  18. Just received the dreaded "postponed/cancelled" mailer - second year running it doesnt happen ???? They raise a valid point, under current restrictions, outdoor events are limited to 100 people - is the Knysna Cycle tour next to be pushed out only a couple of weeks away?
  19. Ive been quite frustrated with their online store service. They sold me an item that wasn't in stock, two weeks later still waiting for a refund, literally no emails or communications, i constantly have to call them and hear "im sorry"

    Lights

Anyone keen on a tail light that integrates nicely with your seat, mounting on the rails, i recommend this rockbros. Looks super OEM, comes with a spare rubber seat post mount too so you can unscrew and transfer the light to a second bike. The auto stop/bright feature is nifty.
  21. There seems to be two schools of thought here: 1-doing a 20 min up a hill 2-doing a 20min on rolling/flat roads For 2, the section from Misty cliffs to cape point is prime For 1, the last set of traffic lights in camps bay to suikerbossie top would just about work I’d be careful of basing zones or more so a training peaks program off the data off the 1st results
  22. Nice to see a 700wh battery in the 22kg package, but realise that’s the s-works model time will tell how reliable these bikes are compared to the old Levo (brose 2.1) motors. Going full enduro geometry was only a matter of time.
  23. Canyon officials have ascertained that MvdP was exerting 1.2kw of energy at the time, and have blamed the sheer strength of the rider as the cause of the break ... My bet is that there was a small design flaw in the drop accentuated by an STI over torqued.
