  10. Everyone (organizers included) was caught off guard by the heat that day. i remember reading some guys picking up readings of mid 40's on various devices that day! Saturday, by the looks of things will be warm, but not like that!
  11. I'm in..I'll have to down everything though.. .. -----> got.to.get.to.work.after.
  12. Dude... you'll never know what it's like unless you try it but it sounds as though you've made up your mind here.. I don't ride a SS for recognition. I don't ride one to prove a point. Someone once said "If you ride a SingleSpeed in the woods and no one sees you.. is it still cool?"..Funny, but if that's the way a SS rider feels, he's doing it for the very wrong reasons. I ride a SS because I cannot get enough of it! I love riding bikes, all bikes... but when it comes to being on my SSs.. it's just better! I have a Duel Susser that set me back a couple tens of thousands of ZARs... that gets tons of love and attention.. but no riding time, instead my old, very basic 2008 Scott, billion kilo hardtail that I converted to SS gets ridden ALL the time, purely because it's SO much fun! I read this a while ago and it's spot on for me "One of the funnest things about trail riding is flow, flow comes from momentum, the art of momentum is truly learned from riding single speed." this also hits home for me Single speeding can be an experience that demands more of a person, and so a person finds that extra drive, that extra strength to do something that perhaps he didn’t believe he could accomplish before. Or even relate to. Single speeding is quiet. It’s simple. It’s pure. But it’s way more than that -- it’s personal.
  13. My mate's 6'6" and is super happy with his Tallboy. But as mentioned Ventana is also a great option.. Chat to Eben at West Rand Cycles.
  14. Just as last year, loved the event. Great venue, plenty safe, clean parking, clean toilets etc.. (what's important to me) Great route, SS'ed it this year... just that last bottleneck was annoying because of that photo op wooden ramp and broken bridge, but poo happens.. annoyance was short lived ... LOVED those rocky descents!! :clap: NOW .... for the BEST of the series to come!!!! Van Gaalen!!!!
  15. The "strips" themselves aren't the problem ... It's the rocky section afterwards that is!
  16. I'll more then likely be there SS'ing the 40.. Worked forced me to miss the last one in Culinan, hopefully the same won't happen on Sat!
  17. Very VERY nice!!!!
  18. I ride Van Gaalens alone all the time. Never had an issue. Only tons and tons of fun! https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/99012-van-gaalens-trail-updates/ https://www.facebook.com/VanGaalenMountainBikingTrails?ref=hl

    SRAM XX1 2013.

    I'm super excited about this! Saw it a couple weeks ago and I'd love to have it, with the grip shift, on my Dual Susser. (which hardly gets used since I built my SS)

    THABA TRAILS

    I think I must make a plan to try Thaba out... would've had my introduction to it at the SASSC this weekend.... but can't make it anymore I only ever venture South for good food (Parreirinha and when Lusito's on)
  22. Looking forward to this!! last year was really good. chuffed with the earlier 40km start time
  23. PM'ed you
  24. Photos are up..... http://www.actionphoto.net/default.aspx?pgm=1
  25. Great event as always and the weather played along again, pretty chilly when we arrived but that didn't last long, nice and warm later on, just like the last 2 years have been. We kept as close to the back as possible and managed to help quite a few ladies who had mechanicals, mostly punctures. looking forward to next year! My team of fairies!
