  1. That was a mess for me. Missed the start with a puncture and spent the day fighting to keep air in my tyres. Ended up with no more spares and a slow puncture that I kept topping up when I spotted people on the side of the road with a pump. A disappointing 03:18 for me.
  2. That is just so unfair Tombeej. Get well soon. I'm disappointed because I was looking forward to meeting you. Ah well another time.
  3. That's great. She is a fantastic rider. Always been a big fan
  4. Um, then it wouldn't be fast now would it?
  5. I avoid coffee when fasting. Drink green tea all day but not that tea bag kind. Can't stand the taste. I but loose leaf from Cyrildene. It's so cheap they may as well give it away.
  6. Well I'm 55 and the older you get the longer it seems to take to warm up. Endurance is good though
  7. 2015 Shova was a bad 3:11. Haven't done 94 n the new route. Best on the old route was 2:44 I think.
  8. I certainly am. Looks easy in the videos hey! Whole other story on the road We will do our best
  9. Tombeej you are a flipping star!!!!
  10. Moulin Rouge, Hillbrow. The Castle In Hillbrow. Hillbrow. Lived there for 16 years. The original Fontana. Never saw it closed in all the time I lived in Hillbrow.
  11. What about those weird spray on things of Chinese herbal something or other. I was too scared to use it and somehow reluctant to throw it away. The writing on the can was so red and incomprehensible and it came in a box. Kept it for a year and eventually it disappeared all by itself along with two spare tubes and one sock.
  12. Another vote for the fast. I do it every month now for about 6 months. Last meal on Sunday evening and then first meal Wednesday morning. Very light meals on Wednesday. Just vege and salads. Thursday a little more food including a kettle dinner then Friday pretty much back to normal. On the fast I drink water and green tea. An espresso on Tuesday morning to stave off the headache. I work but no cycling or exercise. First meal is plain yoghurt. I eat some fruit. Salad for lunch and supper. I find it resets my taste buds. Everything tastes awesome after 60 hours of going hungry. Joint pains disappear totally. I have a number of old injuries that niggle me. All gone after the fast. Portion sizes get back under control and snacking is not so tempting. Sweet things like sugars taste repulsive. I don't do it for weight loss but it does seem to help for that. I think the human body is adapted to and benefits from periodic fasting. No way our distant ancestors had access to food so constantly as we do.
  13. Fast ride is tomorrow.
  14. Fasting today so nothing to show. Well since Sunday evening actually. I will eat again tomorrow morning. Gives me 60 hours with just water. Do a fast every month.
  15. Hmmm. Don't think anyone has an issue with your advice or attitude Tombeej. This is a potentially risky task. We need advice and someone to step up. Don't want anyone to get hurt. That's the main thing.
  16. I see the weather is now predicting rain. I don't care actually. We need the rain more than I need to stay dry. Question. What about people that are clearly too slow? Like if I start holding the group back too much I am happier just sitting up and dropping back. Will we suggest that to others if it's an issue?
  17. I am not a natural at this stuff but I am slowly figuring it out. I am trying all sorts of things before I commit. At the moment I am having an issue figuring out how to load a T score manually. Perhaps I am doing something wrong but it just isn't recording. Rides from my Garmin upload easily and give easy to read graphs and very useful information. The thing is I get sloppy with the Garmin sometimes and just don't always bother so need to get info in manually. I logged a query for support with this issue and the feedback was very fast. Got some immediate advice which hasn't helped me, perhaps I am doing something wrong, so I sent off another query and within an hour had a response. Not a canned response either. The person who responded obviously looked at my info and figured out which files I am having issues with. Quite honestly I am blown away with the support and the software. It really is fantastic.
  18. That's very cool. Slick production I kind of think that if Toyota was coffee it would be a Nespresso. I drive a Toyota in case that offends anyone.
  19. Not doing a full 2nd lap but riding home to Kensington part way on the route. Need to get to the start pens before the last group goes off.
  20. Mechanicals won't be an issue. The group doesn't have the time to stop to help with punctures and mechanicals. Someone asked a while back about water points. No water points in a sub three hour race. Two bottles should be enough. This is going to be three hours of pain management for many people. It will be great fun.
  21. None of this is sensible. Sigh
  22. Im still laying around. Adding and deleting plans to see how they look and and get a feel for the process. It looked a bit much to start with but once you get into it it's really simple and very comprehensive. Love the way there are little videos all over the place to describe things like the type of session you must do and so on. The amount of helpful detail is crazy, such as telling you sunset and sunrise times for the day of that planned ride. Very useful that. I think I am going to pull the trigger on this one. I am the type of guy who will religiously stick to a plan but if there is no plan I will be inclined to skip the ride. This is simple to put together and track. Can't really comment on the quality of the actual plan. I'm simply not equipped to do so but it looks good to me.
  23. And form more than one echelon.
  24. One thing not mentioned is if we get cross winds. The guys moving back usually ride on the side from which the wind is coming giving the guys moving up shelter. We might need to watch for that
  25. I registered a profile last night. It looks pretty good to me but then m no expert on this stuff. I did the free thing and will decide in two weeks when payment becomes due but at the moment I am very positive. I found a training Peaks too complicated. I'm not clever enough for that stuff. Fit Track kept asking me to do long rides on Monday and offering me rest days on Sunday. Perhaps a setting I missed. It also told me I was way off being able to do a sub three 100km race despite having logged that in training the week before. I read something about a Hub discount for Today's Plan. How does that work. Seem to have missed that option.
