  1. Read his book over the December break. A very good read. He comes across very well. A few years back I read Wiggins book. I have pretty much disliked him from that point. Comes across as a real self centered pratt.
  2. Great news. Personally I like the kit. Be easy to pick out in the peleton. Distinctive and a bit retro. I think most cycling kit is hideous. Now I can fly the flag for Norway and South Africa with no conflict. My Norwegian family will be well pleased
  3. That looks fantastic. Would love one of those.
  4. Looks more like a dust colector than a coffee machine. No thanks. I like clean minimalist design. That thing is hideous.
  5. I use a natural or home made product. Carrot oil mixed with Avo oil. I have very fair skin. Was a ginger before I went grey
  6. I have posted on this issue on this forum previously so apologies for boring people. I was vegetarian for 26 years. You can survive on a vege diet obviously. My iron levels tested normal. No problem there. I did have some other concerns however. Very poor recovery. I got sick a lot. Mostly after hard training sessions. I moved to a two week on and one week off regimen. I thought it was just an aging thing. I battled to get my strength up. Despite doing strength work I struggled in this area. I had loads of sweet cravings. Slowly over years I developed a sweet tooth. Very dry skin. I tried to get more oils and did all I could think of in this regard. From drinking the stuff to rubbing it on my skin. I started to rapidly lose muscle tone. I had achy joints and thinning hair. My digestion was not good. On the verge of IBS. I also had very very high cholesterol I ate a fair amount of fruit, sometimes too much I guess. I ate a lot of raw vege and tons of salads. I did eat dairy and most of the almost three decades ate eggs. I ate no meat fish or chicken. I did end up using a lot of supplements in an effort to fix my increasingly deteriorating health. I used creatine, l glutamine, whey protein shakes, protein bars. I also ate soya protein, tofu, beans and lentils and other vegetable sources of protein. I don't drink, at all, and don't smoke. Less than a year ago I started eating meat. My weight stabilized. I don't get wild weight swings anymore. No more sweet tooth but I do sometimes eat sweets. I am back to a three week on one week rest training cycle. Skin no longer dry. Haven't been sick in ages. On my old trainer my power increased by around 10%. The new trainer gives such different numbers that I don't compare back anymore. I suspect that improvement has now flattened. My recovery is better. Not just over days but within a ride. I can make a hard effort and recover better to go again within a ride. That never used to happen. My mood is better. I feel more optimistic and handle stress better but there are other factors that could be responsible for this. I still eat lots of fresh food. Prepare food at home mostly. Limit my fruit to three of 4 servings a day. Not a big soda drinker but do like coke. I guess I drink a can of coke about once every three weeks or so. I eat meat every day. To start with I ate a lot of meat. It seems to have moderated lately. I do go for the fatty cuts when I can. So eat what you want and believe what you want. You must try it for yourself. There are so many variables that it is hard to make any real findings from the experiences of another person. People will believe what they want and look for evidence to support those beliefs. I do the same of course. Good luck
  7. I was held up at gun point recently. Was riding on my own. Guy came running at me with a gun pointed at me. If I had have had a gun I would not have had a chance to get at it. All the bloke took was my phone and it was insured. Was a bit surprised when he let me go but perhaps he was a huber and more into mountain bikes and I was on a road bike. It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be actually. More annoying than anything else. So I wouldn't carry a firearm. I'm not a fan. Wouldn't say I am afraid of them, I was a Bren gunner in the old SA. 7SAI. I just don't think it would be useful. Basically you are in an ambush situation. I was trained that in such a situation you must start firing ASAP before even hitting the ground. Once on the ground roll and leopard crawl into cover. Usually the Bren group gets sent out on a flank taking high ground if you can. Of course the rest of section has to provide covering fire whole you attempt this bowel loosening maneuver. Not sure about pulling this off on Simba hill while out on a training ride. But good luck anyway.
  8. Richtersveld. Near Kokerboom Kloof. Sure I stuffed up some spelling here but anyway.
  9. Shot this a few weeks back. Been too busy to look at it until now
  10. Anyway he is racing again. Lying third in the tour of Alberta. 9 s down on the leader. Go Daryl.
  11. I'm wresting in the mud with pigs again. Cheers. Have fun
  12. So what are you guys saying? He fell and the throttle got stuck? Hahahaha. He was doing about 50km h. Google momentum, no not the insurance company, and gyroscopic forces. Been around for a while. Have a good Friday
  13. This debate is like wrestling a pig in the mud. Eventually you realize that the pig is enjoying itself. Let it go I reckon Anyway It was great seeing him on TV this evening. Always liked his mom and dad and his brother. Decent caring people. Glad it's coming to an end for all of them
  14. I love it. People read a few newspaper reports, some half baked theory on the web and suddenly they know more than the folks at the tribunal.
  15. Rubbish. They sat on a positive result for 7 weeks then Daryl battled to get them to set a date for the tribunal. If they weren't so useless he could possibly have ridden the TDF or at least the Vuelta. They have a responsibility to settle issues as rapidly as they can. This has cost Daryl a year of his career. He is talking of taking them to court. Hope he does
  16. Fantastic news. You go dude!!!!
  17. You must spend a lot of time behind trees and bushes.
  18. Oh OK. At least it wasn't just my imagination.
  19. Wasn't there a bloke selling honey sachets or am I having another flashback episode?
  20. Of course you need carbs to race. But you need them when you race. Not when you are sitting on your fat ass watching TV. Simple really
  21. Yes but I have been away and couldn't help myself
  22. Mountain bikers. Have to love them. He already has the GoPro figured out. That's become much more important than esoteric abilities like being able to rotate an ankle to clip out. By next week he will be posting on the hub about how only MTB riders are real cyclists and roadies know nothing.
  23. I was in Upington few days ago and on one of the restaurants had what they called a Tim Noakes sandwich. Hanging around in that part of the world on 4X4 trails and camping sites you get a horrifying picture of the size of the nation. Looks like boeps are handed out with bakkies. Scary
  24. Wasn't he supposed to shout "fore" or something?
  25. 50/50. I like espresso though and make a proper double shot with good fresh ground beans. I bought 4 of those gel things that come in a little bottle. Drank them on a training rode and kept the bottles. One bottle holds a double shot of espresso and the same of honey. Perfect.
