  1. Hey Wyatt Earp. I have ordered a 5D MK III. It will replace an elderly 1D MKIV. What do you think of the camera image quality wise?
  2. I did read it. My Dr is keen for me to be on statins. He is on statins with the same levels. I have opted out
  3. I seem t remember seeing a 1:55 on strava for SBR. My best was my last ride at 2:08. Was hoping to go under 2:05 but it was a bit windy on the day. One day....
  4. I don't recall estrogen. I asked for thyroid to be checked and cortisol. Reason was I was under a fair bit of work stress. Don't remember values but was told it was normal. Being vegetarian was also concerned about iron and that was fine. Cholesterol was 6.2. Better than the 11 it was 10 years back. I take no medication for that. I don't know what to think about it anymore. Anyway apart from cholesterol everything checked out normal.
  5. I'm not low carb. Very far from it.Tried it and never liked it but did make many diet changes based on my experiences with the diet. Things like upping saturated fat. My resting HR is around 50. My hormone levels are all normal based on extensive tests done at the beginning of the year. Blood sugar was tested at 4.8. My max HR has always been high. I can hit 190 on a climb no problem. HR drops very quickly as well.
  6. I am 52 htone and my lactate threshold is 174. My maximum HR is 195. I don't think it's an issue. I like to think I have a motor that revs freely.
  7. Make sure your medical aid is paid up and go ride.
  8. It's a great camera and from what work of yours I have seen you know how to use it.
  9. Agreed it is about ROI. Lots involved in this though. I like separating myself from my clients and my clients are frequently well heeled business people. They like that I have a bigger camera than they do. So it's not just about quality. It is also about perception. Personally for me it is about scale. Some images work well small, some large. Not that bigger is better. It is a matter of personal vision and understanding scale. My vision seems to tend to images that work well at large sizes. Wish it was not so but it is. I print on an Epson 11880. It is all costly but it is what floats my boat. I am always up for a chat with interested photographers so anyone who wants to pop in for a chat just PM me. My studio is in Joburg in Rosebank.
  10. It is definitely the sweet spot for DSLR cameras.
  11. Not sure about the question or if its even serious but here is my answer anyway. All things being equal a bigger sensor will be better than a smaller one with the same pixel count. The moment pixel frequency goes above a certain point signal to noise ratio becomes poor. This is the problem at DSLR size sensors and why both Canon and Nikon flagship bodies hover around the 20MP level. In my opinion even an older generation 22MP sensor in. MFDB gives better results than a DSLR at the same pixel count. That assessment excludes low light ability of course. There are other issues involved such as lens quality but that exacerbates the problem rather than mitigating it.
  12. Don't get fooled by the MP wars. A lot more than big numbers involved. Like engines. My bakkie has a 4L motor. Quite a lot bigger than an F1. So it's not just about engine capacity. Same thing with MP. Often it's just an ego thing. Actually usually it is just an ego thing.
  13. Yea for fruit. Have in my lunch bag this morning, apple, naartjie, guava, banana. I am having a real test of my diet at the moment since my arm is in a cast and I am in a bit of pain so no exercise. Lets see if I can keep my weight and mood stable. Yesterday was quite frankly a bit suicidal but that I put down to lack of exercise. Walking the dog almost 2 hours a day but that is so low intensity. What really got my notice in the link Topwine was the knocking of PUF's. this is such a complex issue we can't look t one macro nutrient in isolation. My feeling is we have not fully unlocked the secret of good nutrition. Not sure we even have the key at this moment.
  14. Quite right. You need to work them long and hard to make money back. I upgraded from a 33MP to the 80 a few years back. Never been asked more more pixels. 33MP was enough. Where you see it is big prints. I print up around 2 meters and at that size the cameras are special. Don't make money on prints I'm afraid.
  15. I think DSLR does a fine job. I just happen to like printing big and the commercial work justifies the cost of the hardware. I also have a fondness for view cameras and frequently mount the DB on a Cambo monorail camera. More cumbersome than a 29er but I like the workflow and slowness that it induces.
  16. I'm an old guy. I like big cameras.
  17. Arm in a cast so not getting any riding done and not much photography. Got my wife to bring the beast into the studio on Sunday. Shot on a Leaf Aptus 12R.
  18. Dark leafy greens have very little carbs as far as I know. You would need to eat a bakkie load of spinach before you had a problem.
  19. Seems the 26 inch fad is also coming to an end. Really I don't care. I will crash anything. Makes no difference to me.
  20. That's very clever. The screw thingy I mean. Wish I thought of that last year when I broke the same cable at the beginning of the Shova. Did about 80km in the 11.
  21. A real nugget for me this link. So many things clicked into place. By the way I love the coconut oil. I only use about a tablespoon a day but have cut back on the butter.
  22. Hunter, Impey, Froome for Quebeka next year at the Tour. Hey I can dream can't I?
  23. Anyone old enough to remember the Woody Allen movie sleeper? This guy gets frozen or something and is revived in the future. He is asking for all this healthy food and the scientists that revived him look on in horror. They say he should eat a big juicy steak. They say its so strange that everything we were taught is healthy turns out to be wrong. I keep thinking of that scene even though I havnt seen the movie since the 70's
  24. Chris Hoy says Cavendish is no sprinter. He is an endurance athlete with a quick finish. I guess it's a mattere of perspective
  25. Disappointments for me, and I guess they are getting on and play a more background roll now, Roche and Chavanel. Cuddles I feel a lot of sympathy for. In his prime he rode clean against cheats. That's my feeling anyway.
