  1. I greet everyone that I see on a bike. Commuters as well. Also runners. It doesn't take much effort. If they greet back that's cool. If they don't that's also cool. Their business not mine. Don't see that I will ever dredge up enough passion over this issue to ever get angry about it one way or another.
  2. I add my vote to the thermomix. Pricey but I think it worth while.
  3. I'm 53. My heart rate hit 203 on three occasions at the last 94.7. I still got dropped.
  4. Dave I have also been told to bail from the interval session the moment I don't hit the numbers. I do this with tabatas
  5. I would say mostly ethical reasons. Not that being vege totally removes you from ethical concerns. You just have to look at rain forest destruction to provide more space to grow soya to understand that.
  6. I flush till no more spluttering then five more seconds. I have the coffee ground and ready to go so no delay
  7. I have an admission to make on this thread. Those of you that have read my previous posts will know I have been vegetarian for the past 12 years. A month ago I started eating meat again. Big changes in my life and so I changed my diet as well. I have put on weight but am riding better than ever. Odd So now I think I will have another go at this diet. May not go as low carb as a lot of you guys but I will try it again
  8. It's also a Simonelli but not the one that came bundled with the oscar. Not sure of the model. Cost about 9K I think
  9. I'm finally getting on top of my Oscar. It has been loads of fun. I have watched a lot of videos and tried to learn as best I can. Lots of very good advice on this thread. Big thanks to V12man in particular. The grinder finally seems to have settled down. I manage to consistently pull a double shot between 25 and 30 seconds which I think is correct. Even the milk steaming has gotten better although every now and again I just blow it. End up with huge bubbles sometimes or next to no froth at all. Being less aggressive with the temp and keeping the end result cooler seems to help. Anyway thanks to everyone on this thread that has been posting advice on the Oscar. Because of you guys I bought the machine and I am very happy so far. Thanks also for the all the ongoing advice and support.
  10. That's really awful. Best wishes in this difficult time.
  11. At least you are OK. And I just love that you used the word temerity.
  12. Game turns my saliva into something resembling wallpaper paste. Surely if we are going to have a go at supplements we should avoid something that is full of fluorescent chemicals colours.
  13. On Saturday I was our on my own on the bike. Headed out east to Boksburg. Wasn't really concentrating and took a wrong turn and after a few minutes looked up,as I went under a bridge and noticed the road I was on was becoming a freeway I immediately turned around and rode as quick as I could to get back to roads legal for bicycles to use. It was only a few 100 m but a stupid mistake. What I was most nervous of was not being caught by a cop. Not being run over by a taxi, car or truck. No what I was most terrified of was being spotted by a hubber. By a MTB hubber with a handy cell phone camera in particular. I have been lurking here in a state of some nervousness ever since fearful of spotting a thread titled " Stuipid roady on a freeway who is the reason all cars hate all cyclists and try to kill us and we deserve to die WTF!!!!!"
  14. Enjoyed the article. I know from reading Wiggins book that he spends a lot of time on the trainer as well. Tried it myself this year getting ready for a big race. I had a program from Gary Benecke and as I was too busy at work for the road I would hop on the trainer at 21:00 when I got home. It was very effective. Note the article quite specifically refers to bikes mounted on trainers. Not gym type spinning bikes. It is hard, horrible, boring but incredibly effective if you have specific goals.
  15. I have been going nuts with my Simonelli grinder. I know you said new grinders take a while to settle but I was sure I was screwing up something. Tamping is what I thought. Then last week it suddenly became predictable. What a relief
  16. Try Yoga. I have a friend who is an instructor and she has researched Yoga for cycling for my wife and I. We do lots of stretches and core strengthening work. It's the most effective thing I've tried.
  17. Sorry tombeej but I don't buy that for a second. Bread has been baked for centuries. South Americans grew corn to eat. You can find recipes that are well over 100 years old for gruel which was oats and molasses. To say we only fed those grains to animals 100 years ago is mot accurate at all. While I support a lot being said on this thread and have even implemented much of it I do feel that some things are plain wrong An example would be saying cave men ate such and such. Doesnt impress me at all. Way too much conjecture about what they ate and anyway they lived like 21 years so who cares. That's not science. That's emotive nonsense. What we want is studies. Not guess work about what cavemen ate and what it does to us. Yes we eat too much processed carbs. Yes we eat too much of everything. Yes we have been mislead by large companies and lobby groups. Yes there is much of value to read here. Diet is only a part of the problem. How about we are too inactive. We don't move enough. We hardly ever elevate our heart rates unless we are watching a scary movie or are offended by a taxi while sitting in our cars on our fat butts. Anyway rant off. Sorry guys. Having a bad life. Not picking on you tombeej
  18. And ghee is easy to make
  19. First rule is have fun. Roadies are a friendly lot. After all we are a minority and never played golf.
  20. Motor pacing behind a truck rocks!!!!!!!! Been doing it since I was a kid. Apparently it's dangerous. My mom warned me about it 40 years ago but I never could resist it. If that is a freeway that is not cool. Have to agree with that. No excuses.
  21. A bit more likely to use a recovery drink after training g sessions in the week leading up to a race. Make sure I don't miss a meal in the few days before the race. That's it pretty much
  22. Ja Joburg. I moved here from KZN years ago. Love the place. Friendly with a great climate. Also has a real economy.
  23. I have severely restricted carbs for the past 3 week. Breakfast is eggs and spinach. Lunch is cheese, tomato and a carrot. Supper is a salad. Drinks are coffee, black or green tea. Snacks are almonds, low carb protein bar and a protein shake. One apple a day and sometimes a banana. Fats come from double fat yoghurt, butter and coconut oil. Weight is down 4 kg. Flat feeling lasted about 2 days. Headache for a day. Body fat from 14% to 11% approx as measured on a scale. Riding is going ok. Long rides at base ,levels comfortable now. Today is a cheat day. Will have some pizza after critical mass. ( riding in a bloody tutu in fishnets with my wife and a female friend. I am so nervous about that) One more kg and carbs start going back into my diet. Mission accomplished. That's how I use the LCHF diet.
  24. Body builders are essentially professional dieters.
