Yes I saw that. Plonker. Blames the players. If they weren't stumbling around wondering what in hell they were meant to be doing they wouldn't be giving away so many penalties.

Close score but just not entertaining rugby. I switched over to the cycling rather

This Argie team is flipping good actually. Kiwis don't have all thir own way. Perhaps the Bokke are not as bad as we think. Or as bad I I think. Can't speak for everyone.
  4. For the coastal guys don't forget to pack your oxygen bottles.
  5. I have tomorrow morning free and I'm finally over a small medical procedure and a bad cold. I am celebrating by going to the reserve in the morning. Yeeehaaaa.
  6. Only thing worse than a week in Mauritius is two weeks in Mauritius. Rather skip the Argus 4 years running and go somewhere else.
  7. I have started playing around with my machines temp setting. Went up three degrees. It has made a quite noticeable difference. I was finding the current batch of coffee a little sour. Tried cutting the shot a little earlier and that did help. Upping the temp and pulling the shot for the normal time has had a similar but not identical effect. Enjoying the machine but only now feel I am confident enough with it to start really experimenting.
  8. OK I understand now. Thanks
  9. I would think the temp won't be an issue then. 96 C is 96C no matter the altitude. Temp drop will just be a function of ambient temp I would think. Sure water boils at a lower temp but you aren't after 100C anyway. I think water boils around 96C in Joburg
  10. How does that work? Do you heat water and then dispense it into the machine?
  11. I would have but geologists travel a lot. Working up north of Rustenburg and then at the International Geology Conference in Cape Town.
  12. Went to Truth for breakfast yesterday. Service was exceptional. The breakfast was top notch. The coffee, I had a flat white, was out of this world. I will pop in for an espresso later today.

Strauss retiring. Only at the end of the season.
  14. I remember reading an interview with Sauser after the Epic. He was talking about popping a gel every 20min. I thought it must have been an error so I looked into it. It is what those guys do. Also watch the roadies. In a 4 hour stage they actually have a feed zone where they rake on a bag of stuff. They also never stop the back and forward to the cars fetching bottles and gels despite the enormous effort to get back to a peleton that can be moving at close to 50km/h. I think I have my concentrations sorted but this has made me think I need to make a bigger effort to take on more of everything. Except water. No time to pee in a race. The brain thing and it's energy requirements is also a thing. Glad that was mentioned. Riding in a racing group for 100km is for me quite intense. Lots of concentration. Tight groups, constant fighting for a wheel and space, staying with surges. It's exhausting mentally. Well for me it is.

    Rugby...

Yep. Let's stop having a go at them. They may not be winning but they are playing a resourceful and entertaining style of rugby. Ball kept alive and lots of wonderful team spirit. They seem happy to run out on the field and show tremendous enthusiasm. I especially loved the first half of Saturday's game where they surprised me with their flair and creativity. It really was hugely entertaining and inspiring. Well done to each and every player.
  16. I tried the approach you say you are using. For me it doesn't work. It's fine to ride for ages at low intensity without eating. It's easy to do. But come race day what makes you think simply eating carbs will allow you to go very hard? If you haven't trained to go hard where is this ability going to come from? It's not magically going to come from the carbs. It's like putting poor quality fuel n a race car and then driving slowly around the track and hoping on race day you will be a winner by upping the fuel octane. You want to go fast you must train going fast. Base training another story. I usually do that on water.
  17. Prolonged gastric emptying! Dude we owe you. Content like that is a rare treasure in these troubled times. Poetry.
  18. Yes myself. Might explain my desperate performance on day three at the Panorama after going really well on day 1 and 2. I mix my own drinks from stuff in the kitchen and I think I'm spot on with that. Just not using enough of it.
  19. Generally friendly. Ignore the golfers.

I am like that with cricket. Wouldn't step outside to watch if they were playing in my back yard and I used to go to five day tests.

De Allend had a go on Twitter at a person that criticized his lack of passing. He later retracted and apologized for the tweet. I actually thought the criticism of his playing was quite tame and gentle when you think how poorly he has been playing Rob Louw has also tweeted to say he is embarrassed by the performance and compared it to West Indian cricket which is a shadow of what it was and while it has lots of talent has no team cohesion and very poor coaching.
