  1. Lovely daily reports! This route is brilliant and certainly brought back good memories of when we did it last year.
  2. Probably old news already: New Specialized Supercaliber about to be launched for the XC season. https://en.brujulabike.com/specialized-s-works-epic-2023-first-images/ https://bikerumor.com/spotted-a-new-xc-race-bike-from-specialized-2023-epic/
  3. I think that load shedding will be around for a while longer. At least 10 years. Perhaps the generator is a quick victory, but solar takes the win over a long war. This reminds me of my Nespresso vs Espresso machine conversation. Nespresso was quick out the gates with initial costs, but slowly lost to a grinder and espresso kit over a few years as the pods got more expensive. The pods quickly became undrinkable as the novelty wore off.
  4. I finally got this sorted last week. What a difference this makes! The little batteries take a beating during stage 6, so will have to look at getting 2 more while we look at getting a bigger system.
  5. That's pretty much how I saw it play out. But that isn't taking into account having to replace a battery or two over the 10 years.
  6. So, here's a silly question. Apologies if it has been asked before. Is the installation of a generator a worse idea than a inverter/battery/solar panel setup ? I know that there are quite a few factors to consider (apart from the neighbours), but the generator costs about R30k for an 8kVa system vs approx. R200k for the other set up. That leaves me quite a lot of change to pay for fuel over the next few year. One of the other factors is that the batteries may not be up to the task of charge/discharge cycles for Stage 6 for as long as people hoped. I have heard stories of battery warranties being limited to 2000/3000 cycles rather than 10 years. At R45k per battery, that is an expensive 'disposable' resource. Am I barking up the wrong tree and misunderstanding the factors at play ?
  7. Looks like the organic version of Wout's towel https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/wout-van-aert-overcomes-towel-troubles-and-broken-derailleur-to-win-in-dublin/
  8. Hi Robin Cape Town is quite spread out with cyclists everywhere. The Cross Cape Rout exists between Stellenbosch and Plett - that is gravel / MTB. You can do it on your own - many people here on BikeHub have done it and there are several posts and articles (do a search). https://capecycleroutes.co.za/route/cross-cape-route
  9. Isn't that anodising ? I don't think that can be polished out or touched up. Would like to know as also have some chain scratches on my cranks
  10. Especially on these rims
  11. My Grubby Grivet Working with Dave was a great experience and made me enjoy my bike even more. Edit: That's a powder coat, not Jared's wizardry
  12. Was it this bike ? https://www.instagram.com/p/Co4bRgiKxQR/
  13. I did an order with them last week, which went really smoothly. Ivan was my contact there.
  14. At least he didn't call them cleats...
  15. SHram
  16. But how does a type of pizza describe rim ? ( I know that they mean deep section, but...)
  17. I agree. its over. But at the same time, it would have been good if there was an official one liner somewhere explaining how it was resolved. Even if it just said that it was settled out of court and everyone learned a lesson. There were many articles over many websites and a HUGE fire on social media, only for it to all go quiet and Nick was riding again few months later and everyone was happy. There was no real conclusion to the story.
  18. Do you get cranky if people use 'Deep Dish' to describe their rims/wheels/hoops ?
  19. Depends if its the front fork...
  20. I thought my question was 'How long is a piece of string?' I am not looking for a better price, just availability Except that I don't know what I am looking for 🤣 He said something about armour cable at R 150/m. And it would be for internal use only. I currently have a 3kVa inverter and hope to get a 5 or maybe even an 8kVa later in the year. That plan was to get cables with that in mind. Breakers and Change Overs are all part of the package - it just seems that the cable is in short supply. I had better press him for more information and possibly a bit more effort... Next silly question: Are all houses 3 phase ? So, would that affect the type of inverter I would get ?
  21. I have a small inverter and battery set-up that I need to have connected to the DB. This would be to run lights, my PC, Wi Fi, house alarm etc. The electrician needs cable that aren't in stock and is being vague about what is required. The cables would run 4m from the garage to the DB (and back again). I will upgrade the inverter in the near future, so will 'oversize' the cables for this installation. Can anyone tell me what I need ? Perhaps I get those cables for him so that he can get going .
  22. Looks like the 3 of them finished joint 4th.
  23. I went with the Bontrager Ion Pro RT light as its 1300 Lumens and a bit cheaper than the Garmin Varia. It can also be mounted to a GoPro type of mount under your Garmin (if you have a mount that allows that). Not sure if the Garmin light comes with that sort of mount as standard (I think that it does). The Bontrager light can also pair with your Garmin head unit, but perhaps not as the actual Garmin system.
  24. That may (or may not) solve the dropout width, but you may have an issue with the rotor position.
  25. Post a pic of your headtube Does your bike have 27.5" or 29" wheels ? With a through axel or QR skewer ?
