  1. I don't think that there is a way of checking the amount of accidents or incidents, but I would say that its the same every year. The Argust thread has been full of those comments since the beginning of the Interwebs. The front groups are full of 'idiot racing snakes' while rest of the groups are full of 'inexperienced newbies with no group skills'. A crash in 1 or more groups coming down hospital hill is common practice, if not some kind of tradition.
  2. I know that Racetec is still processing the results, but I am very interested to see how many finishers in each event there were. At the moment, it's sitting at 768 for the 42km event and 18481 for the main event.
  3. Hey @ChrisF Nice to meet you on the road today Sorry about your crash yesterday - glad you were able to ride this morning.
  4. Is this a 'Tell us its your birthday without telling us its your birthday' thing ?
  5. Did you stop for coffee anywhere ?
  6. Spot on for frame price! Seems like reasonably good value. The complete GX built is a bit more that you thought though. https://beta.pygaindustries.com/product/tig-trail-downcountry/ I found myself going back to that page a few times, and then thinking about all the ways I could make this work... XC or Triail Painted or raw
  7. Stay on main Rd and head out past Simons Town. Should be no issues there. Don't go before 8:00 if you can help it - there is a lot of traffic heading towards Simons Town (Navy ?) Have coffee at Salt in Kalk Bay on the way back. If you are lucky, they will still have some almond buns left.

  9. Lovely daily reports! This route is brilliant and certainly brought back good memories of when we did it last year.
  10. Probably old news already: New Specialized Supercaliber about to be launched for the XC season. https://en.brujulabike.com/specialized-s-works-epic-2023-first-images/ https://bikerumor.com/spotted-a-new-xc-race-bike-from-specialized-2023-epic/
  11. I think that load shedding will be around for a while longer. At least 10 years. Perhaps the generator is a quick victory, but solar takes the win over a long war. This reminds me of my Nespresso vs Espresso machine conversation. Nespresso was quick out the gates with initial costs, but slowly lost to a grinder and espresso kit over a few years as the pods got more expensive. The pods quickly became undrinkable as the novelty wore off.
  12. I finally got this sorted last week. What a difference this makes! The little batteries take a beating during stage 6, so will have to look at getting 2 more while we look at getting a bigger system.
  13. That's pretty much how I saw it play out. But that isn't taking into account having to replace a battery or two over the 10 years.
  14. So, here's a silly question. Apologies if it has been asked before. Is the installation of a generator a worse idea than a inverter/battery/solar panel setup ? I know that there are quite a few factors to consider (apart from the neighbours), but the generator costs about R30k for an 8kVa system vs approx. R200k for the other set up. That leaves me quite a lot of change to pay for fuel over the next few year. One of the other factors is that the batteries may not be up to the task of charge/discharge cycles for Stage 6 for as long as people hoped. I have heard stories of battery warranties being limited to 2000/3000 cycles rather than 10 years. At R45k per battery, that is an expensive 'disposable' resource. Am I barking up the wrong tree and misunderstanding the factors at play ?
  15. Looks like the organic version of Wout's towel https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/wout-van-aert-overcomes-towel-troubles-and-broken-derailleur-to-win-in-dublin/
  16. Hi Robin Cape Town is quite spread out with cyclists everywhere. The Cross Cape Rout exists between Stellenbosch and Plett - that is gravel / MTB. You can do it on your own - many people here on BikeHub have done it and there are several posts and articles (do a search). https://capecycleroutes.co.za/route/cross-cape-route
  17. Isn't that anodising ? I don't think that can be polished out or touched up. Would like to know as also have some chain scratches on my cranks
  18. Especially on these rims
  19. My Grubby Grivet Working with Dave was a great experience and made me enjoy my bike even more. Edit: That's a powder coat, not Jared's wizardry
  20. Was it this bike ? https://www.instagram.com/p/Co4bRgiKxQR/
  21. I did an order with them last week, which went really smoothly. Ivan was my contact there.
  22. At least he didn't call them cleats...
  23. SHram
  24. But how does a type of pizza describe rim ? ( I know that they mean deep section, but...)
  25. I agree. its over. But at the same time, it would have been good if there was an official one liner somewhere explaining how it was resolved. Even if it just said that it was settled out of court and everyone learned a lesson. There were many articles over many websites and a HUGE fire on social media, only for it to all go quiet and Nick was riding again few months later and everyone was happy. There was no real conclusion to the story.
