  1. Hi Patch / jandev The event is going ahead. You are more than welcome to shout on here or via PM if you have any questions Entries available here: http://www.bouttime.co.za/events/20170922.aspx
  2. That should work...
  3. Loads of newer bikes with full length cable housing and internal routing tend to do this. Some of the things that I've seen people use successfully: - Styrofoam packing peanuts (Probably depends on you BB) - Foam tubing that is used for pipe insulation - Strips of foam mattress pushed into the down tube I'd say my choice would be to can get pipe insulation over the cable housing (perhaps at the BB) before setting up final cable routing. That's what I did on my one bike
  4. I usually use ODP
  5. Thanx Taps She is very agile, so not easy to track and capture. Even on this image the focus is slightly off, but it will do for now
  6. You can also look at two of the passes we cover (Jan Trichardt Pass and Bakker's Pass) in these YouTube clips I found. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3t3zk47CqI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDQAvtzD4xw
  7. Some more fun
  8. Just some random photos we took along the route. After leaving the small farm roads... Some of the smoothest dirt roads I have ever cycled Closer to the Waterberg the ridings really nice, with almost no traffic, and some lekker climbs and twisty descends
  9. Hi JC We have completed the route checks over the long weekend, and will upload some photo and video footage as we process them. With regards to the CX bikes, the route is currently ride able for a CX bike, but we are just seeing how/if we can get around the UCI rules for drop bars in MTB events. I'll keep you updated.
  10. Hi JGdp The uptake for the teams have been a bit slow. We will be looking at converting some of the team entries to solo, if there is a need. I will update here when a change has been made, but for now there are still entries available in all categories.
  11. Hi R&R It is a very nice area to ride in. Thank you for the offer, I'll PM you
  12. Where did you get the reflective sticker from? I'm also keen to get a nice big one like that and cut some custom section for the bikes
  13. AFAIK entries were only open for those that did it before
  14. Ascending Jan Trichardt Pass
  15. Descending Bakker's Pass towards Thabazimbi...
  16. On my way to Alma...
  17. Reviving an old thread instead of starting a new one... I am looking at getting a drone for mostly video work. I would probably prefer something that can take a GoPro, but not set on it. With the recall of the Karma, and the issues with 3DR I'm a bit scared of the newcomers, but can't say that I like the form factor of the Phantom. Suggestions?
  18. That's just being stupid... I think more and more people are looking at events like this to be able to use their CX bikes. I'm with JanJan on this one... "I don't have FB, so how am I supposed to know"
  19. Hi AnythingBut... Figuring out a reasonable route has taken a while, and we are more than aware of these settlements. We stay well clear of Garankuwa/Soshanguve/Mabupane and are very far west of it. We stay on mostly farm roads for a significant part of the 1st stage, and only enter the D1121 about 15km past Letlabihle. Halfway into stage 2 we enter the Rooiberg/Marakele conservancy areas which have gated access control for most of the route. We stay within these areas for most of the remainder of the route. The only 'settlements' we pass through are the little towns of Rooiberg, and Elma. We will load full route details soon.
  20. Shot! I think you'le enjoy this. We'll chat about doing some riding
  21. We will have full route details up within the next week or so, just waiting for some technicalities. If you mean MountainBikey as in can you do it with a Cyclocross/Gravel grinder bike - Even though it would be allowed, I would advise against it. The route is not very technical at all, but there are some extremely sandy sections that I wouldn't want to do on a Cyclocross bike. There is also a "small" section with loose, sharp stones that I think would catch some people with low tire pressures out if they take the wrong lines. We will have photos and videos of the problematic sections up by the end of April. I'll be riding the full route then, and would be able to give some better feedback. Hope this helps.
