going back for number 2, although I've been told I have not done a real attakwas, as I did the covid version in August 2021

That was, hands down, the best Atta yet. The veld was amazing! Hardly saw anyone. Weather was great, -2C going out of town, but warmed up lekker.

Please move the event to August!!

  2. Wow!!

Richard has built some amazing new trails at Honingklip.

A lot of effort has obviously gone into them and he's had help from professional trail builders.

Proper, proper stuff. Awesome views over Botrivier lagoon.

We measured just over 800m ascent in 28km.

R50 day permit next to the brewery, Snapscan, easy.

    Lekker beer after the ride.

  3. wooohoo - that looks great, well done!!!

we've had these frames in stock for 2.5 years! pity they are not as popular as we would have hoped - but seeing these builds and how awesome they can be " interpreted " it really makes us want to UPDATE it for 2021 --- the biggest challenge is the cost/development/tooling on frames require a certain MOQ to be achieved for it to be viable.

out of interest, what would you guys like to see in a MY21 version of the ST-R? ( actually the above bike is a ST-F with Fixed Dropout )

    some questions:

    1. ST-R or ST-F

    2. keep 29er?

    3. Head Angle?

    4. How many Frame Sizes ... comment above about how a MODERN GEO frame can work with smaller " t-shirt label size " is very true - some brands even do 1 SIZE per model - you might lose the fringe sizes but the majority of the market will suit a GOOD MEDIUM frame?

    5. Tyre Size

    6. Rim Width - this effects tyre size in terms of outer diameter and clearance

    7. Price in Rands that would make it interesting ...

    Regards,

    Victor

    Hi Victor

I owned 2 of the previous Str frames and now one of the new.

    1. ST-R PLEASE, SS is Not fringe!

It is great to have SS or geared option, and I often switch between the two.

Perhaps add the option of a Boost slider to swop out, if that is needed.

    2. Keep 29er, and yes 2.6 clearance would be great, pretty good on the new frame already.

    3. HA of 68  is great. I think the current trend is getting too slack. The Cpt crowd like their trail bikes, but the rest of the country still want to do marathons. 68 degrees should be OK up to 130mm travel and still fine on 100mm fork.

    4. frame sizes Small to XL, I have friends across this spectrum, all wanting 29er.

    5. Up to 2.6 would be great but 2.4 is fine ( as is at present)

    6. 30mm inner rim width ( 26 to 30 mm is , I think, the sweet spot)

    7. Current pricing is awesome, stay below 8k.

    8. Colours need work, raw with clear coat ( perhaps a nice colour contrast logo) would be my choice.

    Thanks for the personal interest!

  4. Yes, excellent combo.

I have been using it for a while now. Ride it on rigid SS and full sus.

Forekaster has A LOT more grip than Ardent, use a 2.35 on the front.

It weights exactly the same as Ardent race 2.35 and Ikon 2.35.

Especially good in the Cape for loose over hardpack.

Run it at pretty low pressures.

  5. First lesson - don't buy American Classic wheels unless they're new and you don't ride hard at all.

They're light but I'd rather go carbon to save weight than these paper-thin rims.

I would get a replacement rim from Rapide and change the wheel.

On that point, check whether you would need new spokes too, and I'd recommend using brass nipples as replacements. It might be cheaper to just buy a replacement wheel than to build a different rim onto that hub.

If I remember correctly Wide Lightning rims are about R3500 per rim.

Did this event on AM Wide lightnings.

They may have a fairly soft side impact resistance but they can actually take a huge amount of damage before they fail

  6. I have a set of Maxxis Forekaster 29er - 2.35 that I will be putting up for sale over the weekend among other spares.

They are are practically brand new having done not more than 20km on tar. Took them off and put my Crossmarks on.

Selling them at R800 for the set if anyone interested.

    Crikey!!

That is the weirdest decision I have come across in a long time.

Each to their own , I guess..

  7. Track below Summaridge( includes the whole blue and green routes, start of red and black) is basically destroyed, bridges burnt , trees over track, so that 1st part of the Hemel en aarde track is closed, for now.

Track open from Summaridge into the valley, except parts through the horse farms ( bypassed aro young foals)

Power is back on, Hermanus very much open .

  8. Howdy all,

Looking for advice on a decent gear ratio for a single speed build that will be used for multiday gravel grinding and some non-technical single track. Potentially some big climbs. Anyone have any experience with this with a 32 x 18 gear setup? Not needing to set records on the flats, just want to be able to climb fairly comfortably with a loaded bike.

    Shot!

I am doing the SS gravel thing at present, lots of SS MTB in the past.

Difficult question to answer without knowing your abilities/preferences.

If 32/18 on mtb is good for you then I would go with a 32/16 on gravel else you just spend too much time spinning on the flats. How much extra weight are you carrying, how steep/ long are the climbs?
