  1. Go to Woodstock cycles-they should be able to help you out with older bikes. Google 'em.
  2. Hi riders, I have finally got around to making a map for Lebanon mtb trails. You can download it here.
  3. The best bike in the world! A Voodoo Wanga (or Wanka if you're that way), 32x17 (the perfect gear for Cape Town) with nice beefy tyres and a few special parts you don't see much. Super stable at high speeds but standard XC geometry to get you up to the fun bits. It does things it wasn't made to do.... Like this And this (video)....
  4. Hi Roer, Very late reply here, but iRide Africa host skills lessons for begginners and intermediates throughout the year. More info here. Our focus is a) get you to love single track B) to ride with the proper techniques
  5. Interesting topic this. I do hate how 'XC' gets thrown in the mix when it's actually fun rides and XCM's you are talking about though. XCO is pretty frikknne hardcore technically speaking and then you have to pedal up everything too! We are thinking about starting up a race or two that will be different and will hopefully get people amped on riding singletrack and getting better at it through racing, while still having a great day out with mates and family. Watch this space...
  6. Hey, we had a guest a while back that I think was from Tasmania-sounds like some good riding there. He and his mates formed a club there called http://www.bottlesandchains.com/ check them out and see if they'll take you out.
  7. Sorry put this in the wrong forum. Can't see where to delete it?
  8. Hi Guys, Just put up a blog of my experience up in Cedarberg a few weeks back. Seriously cool single track! You can also download a map of the trails and though it may not be 100% correct with regards to route colours etc, it should give you an idea of what's there and hopefully get more people riding it so that they see the demand and build more trail!

  10. Finally booked and entered! There are still loads of Cape Town ss-ers that have not booked yet but we are coming up for sure! Here's a vid of us riding our SS down a local trail... http://vimeo.com/39570248
  11. iRide Africa also host skills clinics in Tokai, Durbanville and Stellenbosch. More details here http://irideafrica.com/clinics/
  12. I might have something for you. Let me take a look...
  13. Here's a video a friend and I put together recently. Rocking an old school 'all mountain' trail on single speeds. http://player.vimeo.com/video/39570248
  14. I am selling a beautiful cannondale chase jump bike for R4000...
  15. We have the same problem here in Cape Town. There is a good saying that if you see litter and don't pick it up yourself, you are as bad as the person who left it there in the first place.
  16. Phwaor! Quite a hectic trip that... A group of us is planning on flying from CPT to JHB, hiring vans and hoping to get more SS in on the action to split costs. We would head up, do tthe 3/4 days of SSWC and then a few days of singeltrack riding on my old stomping grounds of Howick and karkloof. Keen?
  17. yup, Thanks PhilipV! iRide Africa have a good selection of bikes. Give us a holler and we'll sort you out.
  18. Holy cow! Spioenkop is barely rideable WITH gears!! Road trip to Natal then-great stuff! How about Karkloof/Howick as a venue? The trails there are probably the best in the country and easy access from Durban airport for those that are travelling.
  19. Check out iRide Africa -better quality bikes and service
  20. I can't believe this practice either! Some people think that because they are in a race they are allowed to litter-YOU ARE NOT! It is no effort to put it back in your jersey pocket, it's going to get washed after your ride anyway. As for the people that are just using them on normal rides and dumping them wherever they feel like, you don't deserve to be a mountain biker in this country. On another note, when you see a piece of litter on the trail you can either do the right thing and pick it up, or ignore it and be just as big of an idiot as the person who dropped it there.
  21. I'm enjoying my Mavic Crosstrails. Very stiff (almost too much!), 400g lighter than my last (rear wheel) and seem to be very strong. Only issue is replacing the spokes when you are travelling I guess.
  22. Initially I was really p***ed with the decision as we were hoping to have a good day and get into the top 10. Today, I feel like we haven't really completed the race As somebody has already said, it's not about the guys in front, the back markers are the ones that suffer and could have got into serious trouble. I would think that the rain wouldn't have been the big problem, the risk of hypothermia would have been the big risk. A big call to make but I reckon they made the right one even though we'll never live it down as mtbers! On the plus side, the trails would have been properly trashed if 1000 riders had ridden them in that weather-much better for us all that they are still there and rideable for the future.
  23. Well done guys! One request-berms please!
  24. I did it back in '99 & 2000. Stock gears but put slicks on. I think my best was 2:50 or thereabouts (actually my best Argus time as I've never done it on a road bike). Was not easy on stock gears, you run out pretty fast on the flats!
  25. Schapenberg trails are your friend. Join the club and support the trail building! Lourensford also there but you also have to join (another) club (I think) to ride there.
