  1. Princess was an SPCA rescue case. She was pulling a cart in a township before she was 2 years old (Work horses start training at 5 years) and had been abused. Again Before pictures and an After picture as she is to-day.
  2. My wife has a love of all animals, but Horses are her special thing. When I met Kathy she was a live in working pupil at Kyalami - working 16 hours a day with the Lippazaners . She is currently the (unpaid) stablemaster at our local riding club. I thought I would show you some of her rescue successes. WARNING GRUESOME PICTURES. Madonna had been bitten on the face by a snake when Kathy took her on. So First a Before, and below an After.
  3. To-day Marsie relaxed in front of the Telly in the Den after the hard day of the work party yesterday. A program about Foxes caught her interest and had her sitting up straight.
  4. Yesterday my wife organised a work day at the stables with all the members to sort out some maintainence. Marsie assisted by entertaining the children for most of the day but eventually collapsed in a stable, very muddy, very happy and very tired.
  5. In Three short weeks Marsie has grown quite a bit and filled out. Compare her to the picture on her arrival in the car boot three posts back
  6. One week after her sudden appearance in our lives there was a local fete with a pet show. Marsie ( In the middle) won a prize .
  7. It did not take long for Marsie to settle in and take over. Bubbles an aging livewire acquired someone to play with . The two get on very well. These two pictures are from the morning after she arrived.
  8. On a Friday evening training ride in Roodewal Plantation three weeks ago (25th July) I found a pup hiding under a pile of logs. The Hubbers decided she should be called Marsie as I had lured her out from under the logs with pieces of a Mars Bar. (The original story is here http://www.thehubsa....d-hubbers-help/ ) The Pictures are of the location, Logs, and Marsie still in the boot of the car on arriving home.
  9. I did make him work for them. He had to accompany me on the Akkedis 70km with 1665m of ascent.
  10. Its just a guideline. I rode with two youngsters on had a Max of around 170bpm one of 220bpm both were equally competitive. People who stay fit will not have a decline of 1bpm/year maybe a quater opf that. Use it or lose it.
  11. Well if you are very blonde like my family and you swim every day it does turn your hair green. Also your immune system does not get a boost from having to tackle all the other life forms in the pool. That's two issues.
  12. We (a bunch of friends) did the Akkedis 70km event in support of MS suffers. Anton and Adri did it on the Mountain Bike Tandem. Adri has MS and must be an inspiration to other suffers. TGIP woke up with hot flushes and nausea and dizziness. (Side effects from some drug therapy) and as another side effect of the treatment is muscle weakness he did not have a good ride – negotiating rocky uphill single track when weak and unbalanced gets tricky beyond belief. Usually he out descends the Tandem and the other in the group, yesterday he was just unable to keep up. Thank you Anton, Adri, Andries, Marius and TediBear for the support during the epic event. Thanks also to the Duke of Atholl who accompanied us as sweep on his scrambler. It was a very tough route, at times in thick mist, but the organisation was outstanding. The route including the many, many kilometres of single track had all been cleared with bush cutters, some and tracks recently graded and the route marking was excellent. The waterpoints were very welcome and all were well stocked with food and chocolates. Well done Johan!
  13. (R80 & R40) They all start at the Schoemansdal Enviromental School ( Finish of Stage 3 In the Kremetart) Below is the route and profile of the 70km event For entries get hold of Renda at admin@kremetart.co.za or pitch up on Saturday (The Guy in Pink is doing the 70km)
  14. I have had no problems in two years of using them.
  15. They are Kremetart surplass, which the wife uses at the stables. I borrowed a few hundred from the municipality one year and distruibuted them to the marshalls. One a team of marshalls returned about 20 more then I issued them with - their mashall point was alongside N1 roadworks and when they packed up they picked up all the cones in the area !
  16. Sfe hs settled down and is now part of the family. She enjoyed a picnic lunch and a long walk yesterday in Hanglip Forest . But how can any mammal twist its spine line this and look so comfortable?
  17. It Looks like Marsie has it. Thanks Hubbers! Last night she had a bath and dip, and settled down very quickly in a spot near the horse tack section in the garage . This morning early she was introduced to Bubbles - who loves a game of catch me with a ball. She has to be introduced to the other two mutts later.
  18. SPCA is covered - my wife is a committee member. Must be dumped at least 5km from the nearest house. Did not just wander off.
  19. I went into Roodiwal forest this afternoon intent on doing a 40km ride at a good work rate. 24Km into the ride I saw movement under a pile of logs, a Labrador pup. I lured her out with a Mars bar and she was very soon very friendly. After trying to lift her on my bike (was like trying to balance a wobbly trifle on the cross bar) I headed for home on the sortest route (12Km) to get back before dark and managed to get signal to prepare the wife to helpafter 5km . Kath was waiting and we got back with the last bit of light and found her under the logs again. So it looks like we also have a new Royal Baby and she needs a name, so please help with sugguestions Hubbers! I
  20. A Friday Story Woman mistakes superglue for cold sore cream Police in New Zealand who feared they were being called by a gagged hostage rushed to a house to find a woman had mistakenly applied superglue instead of cold-sore cream. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/australiaandthepacific/newzealand/10147716/Woman-mistakes-superglue-for-cold-sore-cream.html
  21. I asked that question to the CSA CEO about 12 years ago : Tannie Sylvia replied in an e-mail to me " What do you expect for R50.00?"
  22. .........or claiming that it falls under the heading of "Sponsorship" and claiming their 10% cut under their rules
  23. I cannot claim they have contributed nothing to my cycling experience. When I started cycling all events were held under the CSA of rather (SACF supervision) . But that was a long time ago before there was such a thing as recreational cycling. They totally failed to respond to the needs of less serious cyclists who now are the overwelming majority of cyclists, but they look to them to supply the funds to manage a small band of "elites". The PPA obviously supplies the needs of their less serious cyclists so their members are happy to pay their dues. For 15 years we have been requesting the CSA to do just one thing for the less serious cyclist : Provide one National seeding ladder for all cyclists using the results of all events on the national calendar regardless of who did the timing. Despite repeated promises they have failed to do anything to achieve a Nationaal seeding ladder of all cyclists.
  24. Last week in a poll 27 Hubbers claimed a income of more than R100 000.00 per month. Wayne has set the pace , but how about the other 25 guys throwing in 2.5% of one months income ? Fire is not going to get a lot of USD$ for it unfortunately, but It would give her some spending money and pay for a few tubbies.
  25. Where does the freedom of association guaranteed by the constitution come into this? Surely if some cyclists want to associate with the PPA and ride events organised by them they may, without being forced to associate to the CSA. Similarly the PSA is free not to associate with the CSA if it wishes not to. The Licence fee charged by the CSA is membership fee of that association by another name. We are free to associate or disassociate ourselves from any organisation, and involve ourselves and associations in any legal activity. Recreational cycling or sport is surely a legal activity.
