  1. I have been trying to buy a bike for my daughter who relocated to Perth from London. She sold her bike in London when she left and I said I will replace it for her. So I contacted 5 Perth Bike shops via their very nice web sites this week. Only one bothered to respond and he did not offer any discounts so CRC will be cheaper even with the postage etc.
  2. I stop sign is a red light on continiously. Traffic lights control one lane a at a time. The act for each reads " Shall Stop" After stopping you may proceed.
  3. A Red Traffic light is of course just like a Stop sign. At a red light you "Shall Stop" but once having stopped and if the road is clear you may proceed.
  4. Look at when it was started. 1295 Pages in under a month!
  5. I ride my bike as my own form of Zazen these days. There is no longer any goal attached to my cycling, I just do it, instead of sitting staring at a wall each day I just ride my bike.
  6. We ride early mornings, (5am) and at night, so the traffic is the wildlife on the mountain, nd temperatures are cooler. The wildlife can be dangerous though, Justin wiped out two nights ago when I porcupine ran in front of him suddenly.
  7. See the new Exposure Reflex then, 2 200 lumen which automaticaly adjusts the power output depending whether you are grinding up the mountain or screaming down the single track. Not too much moolah if you say it fast enough - £465.00
  8. You know long term bikes stay about the same. My first Campagnolo crankset & BB (road) cost me R 26.50 new in 1968 - then it was about 27% of my monthly salary. To-day I can get a new Campagnolo crankset and BB with a far higher spec than the original for 3% of my monthly salary.
  9. You know, the owner of the bike shop where I bought my first lightweight equipment from (It was then little place in Main Street Jhb before they moved to make room for the Carlton Hotel) bought a Ferrari when he eventually sold his business. Ok, was not a Porche but only a Ferrari Dino, but he built his business at a time when a major cycling event in Johannesburg would expect to attact as many as 100 riders.
  10. Especially as : "It has a very long half-life, and can show up on a steroid test for up to 1.5 years, due to the long undecylenate ester attached to the parent steroid. Trace amounts of the drug can easily be detected for months after discontinued use." ...Maybe he just had some horse steak ....
  11. is this better?
  12. Same as most cars, if R 2800.00 is a fortune , then it is.
  13. a 700C X 23 is about 2080, but varies on make of tyre, and pressure you pump to. To accurately determine the correct setting ride a 20Km piece of road with Kilometer markings, and do the adjustment. For an example of the adjustment lets assume above your 102km race was accurately measured, then you need to adjust your wheel circumference like this: 2096 X102/82.61 = 2588. This is obviously wrong so look to see if your device is picking up all the wheel revolutions. or get a decent device.
  14. And check my previous comments: Sponsors got value for money at the time, How do you ask for money back on a long expired contract in which you got what you wanted?
  15. The US Postal may be a little different, but in general sponsors whose sponsorships contracts have long expired will have a hard time proving that they did not recieve fair value during the term of their contracts. How can you breach an expired contract?
  16. On what basis can they demand their money back ? When he rode for them he delivered the advertising exposure that they paid for - in spades. It would be hard to claim that they have not received fair value for their money.
  17. If you are going uphill yes, if you are going downhill no.
  18. My friend and longtime training partner (and a onetime SA 1500m track Champ) last week won a R300 000 + Costs settlement for a jogger who broke her leg in a pothole in Louis Trichardt: Read the story here : http://www.zoutnet.co.za/details/27-08-2012/council_must_pay_up/14612
  19. Just make sure your Doc is a cyclist such as my GP (& my urologist) ! Read about my GP here http://zoutpansberger.co.za/details/12-07-2012/dr_casper_completes_epic_freedom_challenge/13970
  20. I was competive doing 12- 15 hrs/week for about 10 years before we married started a family, and ended up with 4 kids 10 years later before I got a snip. Now 45 years after joining my first cycling club I've cut back to 4-6 hrs per week ... I guess cycling made me too fertile.... And all those years ( and now) I rode a Rolls Saddle or its predecessor with the same shape.
  21. After decades of fierce opposition to the use of all contraception, the Pontiff has ended the Church’s absolute ban on the use of condoms. He said it was acceptable to use a prophylactic when the sole intention was to “reduce the risk of infection” from Aids. While he restated the Catholic Church’s staunch objections to contraception because it believes that it interferes with the creation of life, he argued that using a condom to preserve life and avoid death could be a responsible act – even outside marriage.
