  1. “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was in this wise. When his mother, Mary, was espoused to Joseph, before they came together she was found with child of the Holy Ghost” Now the birth of the Greek demi-god, Perseus , was in this wise. When Acristus, King of Argon, was warned that he would be killed by the son of his daughter Danae, he built a tower of brass, in which she was imprisoned and so hoped to frustrate the oracle. But the God Jupiter visited the maiden in a shower of gold, and thus was Perseus born. And the birth of the Aztec God, Huizilopochtli, was in this wise. When Catlicus, the serpent-skirted, was in the open air, a little ball of feathers floated down from the heavens. She caught it and hid it in her bosom. And of this was the god born. The birth of the God Attis was in this wise. From the blood of the murdered Agdestris sprang a pomegranate tree, and some of the fruit thereof the virgin Nana gathered and laid in her bosom, and thus was the god born. Also was the founder of the Manchu dynasty of China born in this wise. A heavenly maiden was bathing one day when she found on her skirt the raiment of a certain red fruit. She ate and was delivered of a son. Likewise was Fo-Hi born of a virgin. And the daughter of a king of the Mongols awakened one night and found herself embraced by a great light and gave birth to three boys, one of whom was the famous Genghis Khan. In Korea, the daughter of the river Ho was fertilized by the rays of the sun, and gave both to a wonderful boy. Likewise was Chrishna born of the virgin Devaka; Horus was born of the virgin Isis; Mercury was born of the virgin Maia; and Romulus was born of the virgin Rhea Sylvia. Many other stories might be related, but of all these none is true but the first. Millions of Christians say so, for it is in the New Testament and none of the others are. And to the eye of faith the distinction is of profound importance.
  2. Good luck with the interview. In my 3 job interviews in the last 7 years the interviewer has entered the room with the project drawings under his arm. That sort of signals that the Buyer/seller relationship is reversed. For me it has been quite profitable. Make sure that you take a bike. Although we have a 7am daily meeting I manage to get in a 75 minute ride and visit the site for 15 minutes before the meeting. As sunrise is about 6:30 my Exposure light is essential.
  3. Budget was R30 000 I went a bit over. A fox Fork would have brought it within. 4. Do you need full suspension? For the same price you will get a bit better Hardtail. But the Trek is good value. The bike I have here in DRC is a Trek 6700. Its done me well for 5 years, and I have ridden and raced it very regularly in SA . As stuff has worn out or been damaged I have replaced and upgraded a bit.
  5. What is all this stuff about Global warming? I took this Artic Travellers picture to-day at 2pm in bright sun in the Eastern Congo a full 2 degrees south of the equator.
  6. Well done David. Please let me know when you have finialised things and I will put a small story in the Zoutpansberger
  7. other - lifelong
  8. You need competition to get you there. If you don't have a (stronger) friend to chase up the hill, chase a bus or truck.
  9. I just built up a MTB which I recieved from CRC in about 6 parcels. I needed a Crank Bros Multi Tool (which nicely fits in cycling shirt pocket), a Hollow BB tool, plastic tire levers and a cable cutter . Thats all you need.
  10. I wanted to ride it first before cutting the fork too much (I only cut about 30mm off) I rather cut too little than too much as it is not something tat can be undone. The hooter does get used in the forest, as it helps communication between us: like when we spotted a 3 metre python one night and used it to call the others in the group who were in front to come back and look.
  11. The front of the Bike after the ride this morning, with the Exposure Six Pack light and Zound Air Horn on the right of the photo.
  12. The garage is large, not exactly sterile, there were some pictures here a while back https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/90528-show-us-your-home-bike-workshop/page__hl__workshop The wife has horses, when I met her 36+ years ago she was riding the Lipizzaners at SANAF , so we have many horsey thginbgs around.
  13. I've just weighed it : 11.2kg, without the front light
  14. CRC , search for Zound
  15. Good, we met at 5am and straight into Hanlip forest to climb up jeep track, road was rough and I felt every bump as we winched ourselfs up the mountain for 55 minutes without a break. I though it was going to be rough coming down but the shocks did their job perfectly, and I almost stayed with Mark ,who at 110kg decends like a devil. Checked the tyres, at 3.5 bar are too hard. Tomorrow they will be at 2.2bar.
  16. The Frame is a Kinesis XC Pro 3 (I have a Kinesis carbon road frame) Fork : Marzocchi Superleggera Saddlepin: FSA Carbon Saddle : Rolls Ti (OK it gives my age away) Handle Bar: Crank Brothers Carbon Cobalt Stem: FSA 110mm 600mm flatbar Brakes: Avid Elixir 5 185mm Front /160mm Rear Wheelset: Crank Brothers Cobalt Tyres :Mountain King 2.2"Front Race King 2.2"Rear Cranks: XTR Pedals : Crank Bros eggbeaters 3 Deraillers: XT Shifters XTR 10 speed Cassette XT 10 speed Front Light :Exposure six pack (I do a lot of mountain single track at night) Rear light : Cateye LD 610 Hooter : Zound air horn
  17. That is my favorite toy. It is the air supply for the 120db Zound air horn. I meet many people because of it as I have to go back and apologise for scarying them half to death.
  18. I took it and showed it off to friends in town this morning. We meet toride in Hanglip forest at 5am tomorrow morning.
  19. Saturday morning I unpacked it all.
  20. I arrived back from the Congo on Thursday, and as I left my mounbtain bike there to ride when I return I had a great excuse for a new MTB. I Spent much of the last 9 weeks in the Congo planning the replacement bike. I collected the remaining parcles at the Post office on Friday
  21. The thing is they were the private minutes of a meeting which should never have been held. To hold a meeting of competitors in an industry and then discuss fixing prices and excluding cut price (online) competitors is illegal
  22. The minutes were not false, they existed and were produced by an attendee of the meeting. They were not proved true or false by any court or authority. The Competition just decided not to pursue the complaint, thats all. If someone publishes something that exists no harm is done. The harm was done in holding the meeting to which the minutes referred. In the end of the day I think that for cyclists a lot of good was done, prices in SA have narrowed quite a bit towards the likes of CRC and cyclists are more aware that alternatives exist for them when they feel ripped off.
  23. Ask Frail about his when he gets back from his 4000km unsupported trip. He is carrying all his stuff on his back.
  24. It probably means incompetence. To get lotto funding is fairly simple. Follow a set of rules in providing information and audited accounts etc, and collect. Our local SPCA with a committee of 5 old women (my wife at 54 is by far the youngest) collects lotto funding like clockwork every year.
