  1. In SA fit any light to your bike, the cops are not going to bother with you. I have asked a few cops why they do not enforce the helmet law for push bikes. The response every time is "What Helmet law?"
  2. Regulation 207 is the one requiring motor cyclists to have Helmets. It was amended to include pedal cyclists from October 2004
  3. Yes flashing red lights on their own are illegal in the UK ,You must have a constant red light at the back as well. So Cateye made the LD 1000. You can set half the LED's to flash and the other half on constant. My Daughter who communites year round in London uses one. I use the Cateye LD 610 in SA - on flashing - a very effective light even in the day.
  4. Try FSA XC-500 Tubeless Wheels I've enjoyed mine. very strong rim.
  5. Three months riding is very early days. This 60+ year old has about 45 years of training in his legs, so many a novice and not so novice has been dropped by him. You better get used to being dropped by 60 year olds for a long time to come.
  6. Ok Let's compare aples with apples. I imported some bike Shimano XT equipment from CRC and landed it at my door all costs taxes and delivery paid for about 20% less than CoolHeat supplies my LBS at. My LBS must still pay for the delivery from coolheat on top of that. Remember I bought that from a retailer (CRC) who have all the usual retail market costs plus packing and distruibution costs. My LBS now also brings in stuff from CRC, so that he can lower the gap between himself and CRC for his customers.
  7. Never had a problem with Royal mail and CRC. Royal mail delivery is normally 10 days. Just do not wait for the Post officve to send a slip. Go to your Post office and enquire. Parcel force is a bit quicker plus you can track it.
  8. The formula 220 - age is OK for those who have lead sedantary lives. I was tested at Crown mines Human Research lab in 1970 Max HR then 188bpm To day I still get over 180Bpm in training if the motivation is right and 190bpm in races. So in 40 years my max has stayed much the same. But then I have trained for most of those years. If you use it you don't lose it.
  9. I use an exposure MaxD 980 lumens in one package, no cables or seperate battery pack. It's now about R 3000.00 Cars flash me to dim if I am on the road. The new Exposure six pack gives 1800 lumens and will set you back about R4500.00 at 500grams it may be a bit heavy but is a serious light. Both give 3 hours on Bright, 10 hours on medium and 24 hours on low power
  10. There is no answer to some things. The images raises a lot more question. Like did she use herself as a model for the work? Does she have a nose like that? and what happens once you are inside of the contraption?
  11. I have an Exposure Maxx-D . It's Brillant, But why not go for the new Exposure 6 Pack. It's twice as bright as the Maxx-D but not twice the cost.
  12. Rubbish, a tubbie can be changed in 1/4 of the time it takes to change a tube. I've done it many times.
  13. Yes, Tumbleweed provide the link to the answer last Friday.
  14. Rolls all the way! Works well on the hardtail, (on the road it's now a SLR XP) I been on the same shape as the rolls for about for-ever
  15. I had a fall a week ago..... despite the damage to the head, the helmet is totally unmarked.
  16. You will pay the VAT on the order (Caculated on the Rand cost +10%) at and R25.00 customs admin. and shipping depending ion your option. I would not buy shoes unless you are replacing with the exact shoe you are wearing now.

  18. A Newton is the force exerted by gravity on a very large apple. A Newton Metre is the torque exerted on your shoulder by holding that apple at arm's lenght from the shoulder.. Hold six apples at arm lenght and see what it feels like, now torque the bolt holding the spanenr at arms length and feel the difference.
  19. I already know the cause of my sports injuries. It's because I keep falling off the @#$%^ bike! (Yet again on Sunday, - Dislocated the much abuse right shoulder)
  20. A Bike is a frame and the stuff that goes on the frame. Before you buy a bike the supplier must give a spec of the frame and what is going on the frame (or spec it yourself). The components are easy to check. But because of the 15% Duty on complete bikes, I would not bring a complete bike over , but buy the components seperately and bring it over in 2 or three parcels. You can order all the bits that you speficy, and should recieve exactly what your order. That bit is easy to check, If you use a reliable supplier like CRC or Total Cycling you will also get the frame you specify. AS a Rookie, and before you know what you want or need, get advice locally.
  21. Your probelm is you have not ridden it yet. You need to ride the thing to spread the stuff around and seal it properly.
  22. Road shoes, Left Foot 45 Right Foot 46 ! Mtb Bike shoes 45 both feet, but right a bit tight!
  23. What do you find odd? I use the stuff I buy, I do not sell it. A two year old MTB Crankset at 30% will be a complete rip off, so your easy way probably does not work too well. When I am done with stuff , it is ready for the bin. When I buy stuff for Friends, they pay what it cost me
  24. I have had 18 good experiences in a row, so maybe yours is the exception. To get the tracking No. go to your account on CRC, and view the order. Once it is dispatched the Tracking No. is displayed. When the parcel is in SA Phone SAPO international parcels and ask for the local tracking No. I usually buy about R 3000.00 to R4000.00 at a time, so it is dispatched Parcel force for Free. But even when sent ordinary post I have had no Problem. Just do not wait for your local post office to notify you it has arrived, often they never do, just go to the PO with the tracking No.
