  1. the other day at the supermarket getting the week's food...I see a mom with her teen daughter loitering" in the parking lot as I load the stuff into the car. Next moment, 3 other moms and respective teen daughters rock up and like you'd expect from teen girls....it's all hugs and kisses and group embracing....with all three moms taking video (hopefully not to put on facebook haha) OBVIOUSLY they arranged a quick parkinglot get together for the depressed kids LOL. Edit: now if I were a Karen...i would totally have video-ception'd (take video of them taking video lol) that crap and called the police with all of their numberplates haha
  2. i don't know what you paid for it...hopefully not so much that it will really hurt, but if that were mine and i was in the position to do so, i'd definitely at-least want to offer you finders fee or something even if i couldnt fully reimburse your money. i also get why some people might be suspicious. Unfortunaetly that is the spidey senses you develop over time in SA. a smart criminal might approach this as a way to sell bikes back to their owners and look totally innocent lol. These okes are very creative. that being said...most people i know would probably buy their crap back from a criminal if they consider the alternatives. So the wheel just keeps turning....
  3. yea.....like there is absolutely no chance that your wife or maybe two sons are also living under your roof and cycling with you. we have a similar issue at the moment with prenatal scans and things. I'm not allowed anywhere near the hospital when my pregnant wife goes for scans....which sucks. Nevermind the fact that if I were sick...she would be sick too and vice versa....and their argument would be invalid....like all the rest of this BS. But dont you dare try and argue logic with them... also...the really nazi ones wont even allow you to take video on your cellphone for your partner becasue it is usually not allowed in anycase. So yes...my first experience as a dad to be so far has been limited to secondhand still photos.... but i digress.
  4. hahaha, conventional wisdom would probably suggest at the very least - 3. Remember to ride side by side though....you know...because corona-vapor in the slipstream and all.
  5. it's almost like they are trying to kill HTs off by doing this...as in totally overpricing them. who would buy this? the avarage spaz buyer would see the dual sus bike next to this on the floor at a similar price and probably just get that....because bragging points. A person serious about XC racing in the market for a 'HT weapon' knows there are better things out there for a similar price.... i mean sure if you could buy it....but even then i'd question your sanity since you could build or get something else in a similar configuration that firstly looked better (obviously important if you buy spaz bikes) but would also make this look like an over specced VW polo. we've all driven past that guy in the polo GTi with the 19" wheels, full trim package, full panoramic sunroof....knowing he spent R500k+.....on a polo LOL. i guess i answered my own question there.... who would buy this? the same guy who buys a vw polo Gti
  6. as long as we pronounce it like the Afrikaans Karen (Kaah-rin) over here....It's all good. It somehow ads to the 'fluffy' housewife in sweatpants imagery
  7. same...scanned through there looking for a limit and didn't see anything. so now the question is again.....does the Mans's subordinates also assume the 5km fell away...or do they assume it is still there and to be enforced....because the rules say nothing to support either. The ambiguity of this whole mess.... someone i knew once said "assumption is the mother of all f@#$ups" lol
  8. religious gatherings permitted. I think we can all agree a braai on a beach is a spiritual experience. just dont invite more than 50 people including yourself...and remember to have the 'braai commandments' handy just in case.
  9. https://www.iol.co.za/the-star/news/south-africa-has-no-intention-of-pulling-out-of-the-commonwealth-ramaphosa-48213043 we obviously still are part of it according to this. How much we benifit from it is another question lol.
  10. might get worse going by how it felt in CT yesterday
  11. yes. it just works as more spacers under your stem. They exist for when you need to raise a stem/handelbar but your steerer tube was cut too short/ was slammed. The stem clamps to this part...which in turns fits over the exposed steerer tube and clamps to that just like a normal stem would. It only gives you that 40mm od extra you didnt have under the stem before. it doesnt change anything geometry wise that you couldn't have achieved with a normal uncut steerer setup in the first place. the only thing that might worry people is the extra connection....but then again people also ride Dual sus bikes where the rear triangles are only connected to the rest of the bike with a few bolts lol. edit: also people worrying about them possibly sliding off the top obviously dont remember how Quill stems used to work lol
  12. or buy a steel bike....stop worrying about weight (because they are comparatively heavy AF) and start considering comfort (and street cred) instead? smoooooov....
  13. must be really naas riding there....
  14. hahaha nothing to do with "cape town time"....though as an ex GP'er I now know both sides of the preconceived perceptions - most of which are untrue. NOW vs NOW-NOW: It's because of how it is used in the Afrikaans language and has been appropriated by the other local languages - probably less successful in this case. "Nou" (now) means what you think....as in imminently. "Nou-nou" (now now) generally denotes a slight delay before starting....as in soon - totally irrational right? But hey, other languages have male and female pots and kettles and toilet paper lol.... if I had to put a timeframe on "now-now"...i'd say it could probably be something ambiguous like "before midday", "before lunch" or "before the end of the day" - depending on when you use it. It doesn't really imply punctuality. It normally never gets used in a way that implies "tomorrow" though. imo very few Afrikaans people even use it in its english appropriated form when switching to over to english, It's clumsiness as a phrase becomes more evident there so we just "talk brits"...
  15. we'll maybe its sport and war....because we are definitely able to apply as far as i know. I actually know a person who used this to get her PR there. A friend of the wife...she and a local dude (saffa) that joined the pom army had a mutually beneficial arranged marriage of sorts. After it was all said and done....they got divorced and went their separate ways edit: https://www.wereldwyd.co.za/en/good-news-for-south-africans-wanting-to-join-the-british-armed-forces/
  16. FOUND it. Turns out you can double click (or more) the reply button. so if you have over sensitive mouse like me i guess there are random ghost clicks making it in there at intermittent times. Is there any specific reason why one would have to be able to click the "reply" button more than once for any given post? Edit: i have the same issue on the laptop with its trackpad, so not a mouse issue...just the way i like my peripherals set up.
  17. admin, I have been having this super annoying thing happen recently where when you click reply to a post, it duplicates the quoted post. you then have to manually delete the duplicate before you submit your reply in a thread. part of the reason why my posts/replies always appear edited post submission lol. It also is an intermittent problem...as in it cant be replicated every single time...but it happens enough to be annoying. almost like auto multiquote Safari 13.1 (mac OS 10.15.4) not sure about mobile. don't use bikehub on my phone.
  18. good stuff. resist conformity! F@$# the system!...do what the hell you want!
  19. relatively easy for under 35's from SA to join the British armed forces (as per their website) - being considered as part of the commonwealth pool of countries and all. You can then apply for PR after 2 years of service. id still recommend only considering doing something like that with some sort of qualification behind your name so you can end up making an actual career out of it - relatively safe from the front lines lol. They pay quite well too (market related public sector salaries).
  20. OP At the risk of sounding like some wierdass life coach (which i'm definitely not btw, so take everything I say as 2/3nd hand). You definitely don't need the army or some sort of neo cult crap to feel a sense of purpose/direction in your life imo. All you need is to ''have to do something or else''so to speak. There needs to be consequence to your decisions. Google these as a start. (There is a TED talk on it too) stagnation-order-complexity-chaos. (the so called growth rings) Most people operate in the stagnation/order part of that chain of rings their whole lives...also known as your comfort zone. You will unfortunately waste away operating in there all your life. You cant grow as a person in your comfort zone. Many people tout crap like joining the army as giving them direction blah blah blah...but all it actually did as force them into complexity and chaos - right out of their comfort zones. They were forced into changing/adapting....and therefor growing as people. One isolated jump out of your comfort zone wont change it all for good though...you need to keep going to keep growing...otherwise you'll just regress again eventually. You need complexity and discomfort to feel/discover purpose and grow as a person. whether it is committing to doing the Munga if you are a weekend warrior, enrolling at Uni for the most difficult thing you can imagine doing well, quitting your cushy job or whatever. You need to do things that are uncomfortable....
  21. thing is. go have a look at how bikemarket works these days... you can make an offer for a bike and maybe get it at your offered price. They propably got that bike for R33k ish... they are NOT putting it in for 35k just to let someone offer 10k under asking price for it to end up with R25k. Now...if they put it in for say R50k....and it has all the right stickers on it for the ''discerning bmw driver''...he makes an offer of 40k...thinking that R10k under aking price is fair and would be a fricken bargain. They happily accept it...making a sweet R7k profit. in this case that R50k asking price is the RRP on cwc's website.... They are not dumb. they know the market and where to sell what. EDIT: I correct myself....that was during lockdown only
  22. i get that....that was not what the comment was about.....more just the all so repetitive argument/perception that SA is so backwards that it must totally not be able to even have enough cloud storage for a puny little niche app like strava lol
  23. id also like one, like the look of it ...if they made any in non children sizes...
