  1. apparently yes. ps: paraphrasing from another thread
  2. i did not belittle anyone. you however did exactly that lol. Do you know me? Do you know my journey? No. it is pretty clear what i said....you literally just said the same thing. If it's not clear enough...here it is again: it is the same for all the competitors. The ones able to get over it and use it to their advantage or see it as another opportunity....will be better for it. the ones that dont...wont. I don't know how to communicate it any other way than that....so sorry if it still doesn't translate. anyway...
  3. I maintain. its the same for everyone competing....and its not more serious than any of the other (and bigger)world events getting cancelled left right and centre at the moment. in that regard..IM, cape epic or whatever means absolutely nothing in the bigger picture. IT just ads another variable that needs to be overcome. if they cant and someone else can, well......
  4. yea i also don't get all this "dream over/mind shattered "talk? yea whatever about the training etc but it is the same for everybody. Somebody out there is seeing this as an opportunity instead and will pitch up in november with the right mindset and be better than all the ones who are mif. Thats the difference.
  5. people don't seem to realise this yet. while everyone is hysterical about the zombie apocalypse, the more serious implications of the 'post apocalypse' go unnoticed almost. The lingering effects on our day to day lives after it all has gone will far outstrip a silly overhyped flu. It is right about time for a global recession if you consider the ±10y cycle. Anyone in a nonessential positions at their workplace need to seriously consider the fact that they are first on the chopping block when the belt gets tightened....and I say this as someone who was ejected into the professional world after university right the previous recession circa 2008....and being in the building industry back then made it even worse lol. This time around it will affect alot more if it keeps going at this rate....and social media - as usual - is not helping.
  6. yey! i dont have any recent pics of mine though but ill share the ones i have in my attachments.Soma valhallen. Tange prestige steel frame. carver carbon front fork, oveja negra frame bags...and i mostly ride it with the Surly 15* backsweep cromo bars for comfort. i ride it for everything. rode it in the cycle tour last weekend too. such a comfy steed.
  7. the australian Grand prix was cancelled this morning too and everybody was there...ready to go. i also think the olympics wont happen at this stage...or maybe postponed. with the traveling motorsport circus (f1, Motogp,WEC etc) accepting that this means the seasons probably wont really get going untill august due to europe melting down atm....i can see any large event happening without serious backlash edit: as in ...sponsors involved look like they dont care about it (the pandemic) and the money machine is all that matters at he expense of spectators and athletes. this is basically what happened in the early hours this morning is at the oz GP. nobody wanted to be seen as that guy....so they decided to call it off.
  8. you'll be surprised how many people (avid looking cyclists) don't even know what a dropper post is.... i was dumbfounded by the number of people asking why my lyne 'seatpost' looks like a 'shock'...and once you show them and explain....it's like they discover the earth is round for the first time haha
  9. also leaves the opportunity open for passing people on the left......on the dirt shoulder
  10. im really considering it because ive started enjoying the road riding i do with the wife on the mtb. She also prefers riding jeep track type offroad stuff more but she doesn't mind singletrack either. She'll never be a 'trail' rider though. But I get annoyed when we hit the speed limit of what a 1x mtb can do. its like being stuk in 2nd or 3rd gear...i want to go up to 6 or 7 when i can. I Dont think i'll ever buy a full onroad bike ever again (never say never i guess)...we enjoy riding offroad too much....so to me a gravel bike might just be the perfect compromise. if my mtb frame could take a front ring bigger than 34T....I would have done that by now. but thats the downfall of boost spacing. it limits the front ring size because it assumes you'd like a plus size tire in the rear....amongst other things. ideally i would want 36 or even 38T up front. i'm still on a 36T cassette so i'm not to bothered on that side. I almost never hit 36T in the rear...and i can always go bigger in the rear for more granny love. maybe i should ask Mr Mercer to mod the chainstay (steel frame) in the back so i can get a 36 or 38T n/w on there haha... i feel the need....the need for speed lol
  11. i also have one of these on a side project. looks like a motorbike chain lol
  12. my wife does work with an international company with local offices. Said company's global policy applies......they impose a 2 week self-isolation clause to anyone that frequent their campuses and has returned from overseas for whatever reason....regardless of where you were. it's getting real.
  13. ok ok, done but only if you run it with the bmx strapped to your back
  14. we can slap you together something like this for TDF too
  15. made me think of this guy. For those of you who don't know Alex Zanardi...ex formula1 and indycar driver who lost both his legs in that crash and almost died - i uploaded a small pic of the crash on purpose because the parts that you think don't look like car parts are exactly what you think they are and there are way more graphic ones. (google it yourself if you dare) anyway...he went on to be a multiple olympic champion pushing that 'bike' with nothing but his arms...
  16. agree. when i do these road events i just assume i can and will get passed from any side because it usually happens anyway being on a mtb. i'm not butthurt about it either. i just try and be aware of what is going on around me...and as you said, indicate and make your intentions clear. Nobody cares then as you mentioned. if those 'rules' really mattered they should dq the snakes who sprint for the line in the last 100m and pass their competitors left right and centre...or maybe the 'rules' only count for 108.9km? meh... if you think everybody will pass you on the right just because it is some etiquette thing, you are going to get aggravated 1km into the ride. i agree that you should avoid being one of these boxes that snake and cut their way through the group due to being infinitely faster for whatever reason...but if you are riding in a group that is going about the same pace, things are a lot more predictable. i've gone and passed roadies on the gravel shoulder due to being boxed in or forced into the gutter. it's part of it, except: on a mtb the shoulder is part of the road, so you are welcome to try and pass me on the left with your slicks if you want
  17. saw plenty of those...on both sides
  18. i don't know...i'm with T-bob on this.... i'd subscribe to that channel haha. on this weeks show: Jewbacca does the CTCT on a bmx Jewbacca does XCO on a bmx Jewbacca does the cape epic on a bmx Jewbacca does enduro on bmx Jewbacca does downhill on bmx Jewbacca does hellfest on bmx Jewbacca does Redbull hardline on bmx Jewbacca does TDF on bmx "why? because F%^k the system...thats why!" edit: oh and dont forget those doggos and kitties
  19. yup...just like when you take your car to a 'track day'. The moment you drive it onto a race track...normal car insurance goes out the window lol
  20. did a antie at the 4j start gate write your number down. you have to get recorded if you drop down to a lower group
  21. this must have been that road-e bike guy going about (what seemed like) 40kph up Chapmans peak lol. itlookedlike a darkish silver bike if i saw correctly. What i found funny was he was going on about passing right....literally going faster than the medical motorcycle......who, very courteously, never hooted at cyclists to get out of they way and just waited for a gap to pass.
