  1. i'm 6'5 and used to be around that weight. i was squishy and mildly over weight lol... Some proper manual labor and chucking my crappy bicycle around for 2 years when i felt like it and i'm about 80kg now and stronger than ever. edit: general point being, guys in general (SA'ns more than most) pretend that if they wear a XXL tshirt and weigh as much as a springbok lock they are automatically hard as nails. Same with guys that are "gym big". ive seen twigs destroy gym boets many a time. as with most things, It's all about power to weight ratio. Anyway...OT a bit. PS: theres a nice P-Bike for sale in classifieds: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/310001-50cc-motorized-bicycle/
  2. Hard Ano Gold...but ok - a function of the hardness of the anodising used/achieved...not for bling like most things. Like the local Kalbo chainrings. The color almost matches the stanchion color of some of the rockshocks forks too. Bars also come in black and carbon offerings for the less adventurous. But I guess it's the bike/MotoX racing heritage that makes them proper desirable in the eyes of alot of people. Plus if you have friends who ride motoX and you show them your puny 0.6 HP bicycle you'll atleast score SOME manpoints by having Renthals on it haha And i mean look at these things. That is a step above most. LOOOOK What self professed man-child would NOT want that on his beastly steed?
  3. just FIY for all who want to try it out...also free lifetime Aramex basic with promo code: KFM945 heard it on the radio not to long ago. worked like a charm when i created an account this morning.
  4. want to need these in my life I mailed merlin the weekend and asked why they 'cant' ship the bars here, doesn't make sense since all the other Renthal bits add to cart just fine...hopefully they can help a guy out...unless they hate money or something. I'm hoping it's a mistake on the site functionality since other bars can be shipped no issue.
  5. Thanks Knersboy. But I avoid SAPO like Ebola lol. If I cant DHL,UPS or FedEx stuff I'd rather not buy overseas. Costs more but the security in knowing you WILL get your stuff and within a few days on top of that is worth it too me. SAPO owes me to much money in lost packages already, not giving them any more.
  6. crud thought as much. problem is even trying to buy from Merlin...they refuse to ship the V2 fatbars to SA. Maybe someone at Renthal really hates someone from SA . CRC not an option atm with the crappy shipping. weird though...cause i initially thought it might just be the handlebars...any handlebars, maybe because of the dimensions...but it is JUST the renthal fatbar v2's. oh well. Thought for the local price of some blingy ones one might just as well get some proper renthal ones at the same price. thanks
  7. Hi guys, Any idea where one could find Renthal products or specifically to MTB in SA? Sorry if i missed it, but couldn't find anything with the search function. The only local distributor i'm able to find seems like solely motorbike related? looking for some v2 Fatbars and an Apex stem specifically Thanks Morné
  8. Been following this channel from the start. It is epic in every sense of the word. The production quality and narration is awesome. I particularly like the one episode where Minaar pitches up with a 29" bike for the first time haha. The heckling as he goes down the track at one point and the amount of hate and crying in the pits...some justified..some not so much lol
  9. somewhere there is a crazy ox able to pedal a dh bike 50km im sure lol...like those single speed types Guess it must also have to do with the fact that MAYBE a dh bike carries a slight advantage over an enduro bike on timed dh section?...BUT, didn't a guy win one of the local DH events on an enduro machine this year?
  10. what enduro race does not allow you to enter with any bike? has it gone there so soon already? that sucks? would it be seen as an unfair advantage in the case of DH? genuinely asking because im considering entering a one or two next year on my new 'bmx' lol (LTHT cotic bfe)
  11. literally LOL'd at the first 3 points . guess this is probably similar to a topic being discussed in another (insurance) thread, but i always have a look and if It's an "older" bike i'm immediately more suspicious of the poster whether it is actually warranted or not. guess thats the biased 3rd world rabobi-sense tingling
  12. i get and agree with all your points re marketing costs etc etc, but i recently as last week bought from 3 different local online stores (well known ones in these circles and not the big one who has recently been bought out) who literally advertise on their site that they don't carry the stock or a fav seems to be 'in stock at supplier', then upon ordering - first confirm that the distro have the stock...then send it to either themselfs first and then on to end user(me). all non clothing items btw. The well known one in Malmesbury also works like this. They sell 'everything' online...but basically have nothing on hand except for ALOT of full bikes and the basics you can find at sportsmans warehouse. Their prices are good though...twice now they have come in ALOT cheaper than some of the competition on stuff i wanted...and they get their stock from the same distributors. You still have to shop around and ask with the online stores...some of their profit margins obviously differ.
  13. http://www.colonycycles.com in woodstock/Saltriver. I prefer the look of them over the simple sams EDIT: this is on special atm too: black on black http://www.colonycycles.com/product/midnight-black/
  14. usually when the items reach a certain amount...can't recall the number, i think it used to be around 25k and over back then, you are required to have an import licence since SARS then automatically assumes you are going to sell those goods. it has changed recently i think....the amount you are able to bring in per year before it is not considered for personal use/gifting purposes. also....I'm not even close to being an expert but pretty sure there are lots of creative ways to show close to zero profit for a 'small business' and therefore minimise losses to SARS.
  15. yes but then i sometimes wonder why some of the many "online only" stores in this country, which obviously don't have all the overheads like full retail stores would have, sell items at the same price as walk in stores. They are obviously making alot more % wise per item then since most of those places literally make a make a phone call and just ship your crap directly from distributors...basically just a middleman. It is not always the case though but it most often than not. We used to bring in some stuff for other interests we have, mostly since we were racing ourselves so it was for own use...but if people wanted to buy, we had no issue to sell. We sold stuff to cover our import and shipping costs +10%...and that still came in at about only 60-75% what local distributors of the same items were charging....so in some case it seems theywere making 30-50% proffit. Needless to say...we actually sold plenty and made up the difference in volume.....and that was in an infinitely more niche segment than bicycling...
  16. oh ok..thats different...double vat - in UK and SA. but still willing to check it out, sometimes it still works out cheaper
  17. because they already made their 100k from investing your premium every month over the past few years...the 50k is just pocket money
  18. 'n Versekeraar is soos 'n screensaver... Die prentjie verander onmiddellk as die k@k die fan strike! beste sig wat ek in n lang tyd raak gelees het.
  19. bet his is not that AWESOME shade of purple with orange trim though...
  20. no jokes...that thing surprises me everytime when i try to get something in there. " have you ever parked a bicycle in an airplane hanger"... - BIG lady - Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo
  21. lets keep it going untill Friday ...
  22. Did this to a certain company years back when the wife accidentally spilled a glass of wine all over her 40k (at the time) laptop. They gave her so much crap even though they had no leg to stand on. After a month of fighting and sending out technicians to tell us what i already knew and in the meantime sitting without private computers to get work done (we both architects), they paid out....and we literally cancelled the policy the NEXT day. These criminals sometimes forget they are a business and not a cartel if you ask me...
  23. good to know they use UPS. will try them out soon. between those 2 shops you could probably get most of the things
  24. argument invalid...i fit the wifes 29er into a 2door toyota aygo just fine LOL. ok you have to take the wheels off (off the bike ) but it fits none the less.
