  1. Any lay-up process of carbon fibre is done by hand. So technically all carbon products are handmade. Think of your pre-school paper mache days - same diffs whether pre preg or epoxy is applied by hand.
  2. Dwight Schrute's bike this intense Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Best fitting helmet I've tried on, but R2.6k for a foam bucket is silly money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Last year there were only 3. I stopped at first one to rinse off mud from my drivetrain. Skipped the second one coz according to the total elevation at that time we already climbed 1200 out of the 1400m. Turned out there was an extra 400m and 7km that day I wasn't bargaining on.
  5. Thanks, yeah although a copy, it was more an inspiration build, or trial build for another project/design I had in mind. More complex etc. Even though I planned this build in great detail, it was still unknown whether it would be a success. With our exchange rate, it's become just too expensive to even try and improve on this. I was thinking of a MTMWW Accuton mids/Audio Technology woofers, 91+dB design with curved (in 2 directions) walnut sides, mixed with composites (like Vivids almost).
  6. Thanks, here's a few I could find on my old phone; http://i1175.photobucket.com/albums/r631/Stefmeister_666/20130509_1301281.jpghttp://i1175.photobucket.com/albums/r631/Stefmeister_666/20130527_1222491.jpg http://i1175.photobucket.com/albums/r631/Stefmeister_666/20130720_1124031.jpg S
  7. Paul Moeller & Co and ITM used to have stock. But most ply grades were BB/BB and lower ircc.
  8. Just discovered this thread, and thought I'd share something. Made these speakers ~5 years ago: Made from solid maple http://i1175.photobucket.com/albums/r631/Stefmeister_666/ScanSpeak%20ZRT/IMG-20120423-00298.jpg http://i1175.photobucket.com/albums/r631/Stefmeister_666/ScanSpeak%20ZRT/IMG-20120420-00274.jpg I've also made most of my furniture, but those photos I've deleted from my account, as I noted there are people who started copying my designs.
  9. So xc bikes are adopting more and more trail bike geometry, a la new Cannondales. At 68.5deg HA it seems the only differentiation between trail and xc is the amount of suspension travel and probably the stem length. I rode my Spez epic with a 60mm stem - just felt more comfortable that way. On these new geos I'd probably have to ride it with 40mm then. I've always thought Scott to be an ou ballie brand...now I'm starting to like it. Is it a sign I'm getting old?
  10. Last year was really cold, was freezing my balls off and cramping up. One oke's garmin recorded -2*C.
  11. I also looked at their PF30 compatible BB recently when mine started wearing out. At ~R3.5k for a BB I can replace them every 12 months if they were to last 3 times that long.
  12. I went for a ride at Bloemendal this weekend on flats. After one lap around there I went back to the car and fitted my clipless pedals, thinking I'll have a bit more confidence on the jumps. I felt so unnatural being fixed to the bike, and was actually slower at times. Also, when learning how to ride, start with flat pedals. You don't want to perform a manual and then lose control. I did that, and landed flat on my back because I couldn't unclip and my brain didn't send signals to right hand to pull the rear brake lever.
  13. Likewise. How do they perform? Saw them going for ~R1.4k. At that price I'd just get 2FOs. Anyone knows where can one find the trail cross stealths in SA?
  14. Does the GRID casing also weep sealant on the side walls? I have run a few with control casings at the rear, and all did that. Looking at replacing the slaughter with either purgatory or ground controls in GRID, as I have a feeling the slaughter's aren't going to be the best winter tyre. Otherwise I'd go with something from maxxis again, maybe Ardent or Minion DHR II (if one can find these locally).
  15. Call me a fair weather rider, but with this south easter blowing I'm glad I didn't enter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. For me, the Ambush is the best fitting helmet so far - comfy and doesn't look like a mushroom head whilst giving ample coverage. Pity the price tag, otherwise I'd have bought one already. iXS trail lid is a close second for me.
  17. Afaik, Skyfall is on Bartinney which is further on Helshoogte. I am still tempted to do the race as that valley is kinda magnificent, but I haven't done a lot of longer distance riding the last few while. 1500m of climbing isn't an issue for me, but if it's going to be like Grabouw last year with an added extra 300m then I might not enjoy all that singletrack.
  18. I decided to go ride the trails this past weekend rather. Absolutely sublime manicured ST. Can't imagine that it'd be much fun with a million other riders, descending whilst seated and rear brakes dragging all the way.
  19. What about insurance. A R200k bike will probably cost well over R1k pm to insure. And I would guess most owners won't risk not having it insured.
  20. My one do-it-all bike. Eyeing a Renthal apex 40mm stem. One thing I still can't get my head around is the 24h front wheel on a 29er all mountain bike. http://i1175.photobucket.com/albums/r631/Stefmeister_666/IMG_3877.jpg
  21. http://www.revolutioncycles.co.za/?page_id=578 If you're considering NOS enduro. I got mine for cheaper though. Might be worth going there and see if they'll come down.
  22. Ex works factory cost is usually around 10% of retail price, depending on what margins they run.
  23. ^^^that welding work looks super neat. Wish other manufacturers could follow suit. I recall my dad's Cannondale (early 90s model) had flawless welding seams. That was sexy AF.
