    Cycle shops

Cycle Fountain in Rabie Rd for service , Solomons in Woodmead for price. Havent had much dealings with Mikes Bikes or Linden cyles but i've heard good things about them from others who have.
  3. Will try make it to ride, if not i'll pop by to watch
  4. Definte road are Emperors, RFS, Kremetart, R4V, 94.7, Springs Maybe road Fast one, Fountains and a few others Definite MTB John Deere, Springs, Walkerville maybe some MTN and Babbas MTB races Also planning on doing a MTB stage race.
  5. Beer has lots of nutrients
  6. When i donated i asked the nurse and she told me its takes 24 hours for the blood to be replaced, she did not tell me about the racial make up (red/white) of my blood cells and that the red ones are a bit lazy and need more time.
  7. It takes your body time to recover, i learnt this at last years 175km kremertart where i dontaed blood a few days before tackling the race, NEVER AGAIN !!!
  8. I saw at least 3 bikes kitted with Tri bars, Thought it was not allowed.
  9. MTB has its share of gripes, some i recall as posted on the hub :---- course too hard, course too easy, too technical, not technical enough,, slow riders holding up riders, fast riders shouting at slower riders, course longer than advertised, course shorter than advertised, wp not up to scratch, direction boards not up.... the list goes on and on. I doubt if there will be 1 race that will have 100% satisfation
  10. If you not directionless like me then imo the 500 is better as it has a more acurate calorie calc. The Garmin 800 incorporates all the featuers of the 500 and 705 into one unit.
  11. Ouch
  12. Garmin 305/500/705/800 are great if its for cycling but are not much use off the bike except some for navigation. If he's looking mainly for one he can wear like a watch and take to the gym, swim, run etc then polar, suunoto, sigma and the garmin forerunner range are your choices. Even Timex have a HR watch
  13. You aint seen nothing yet wait for the Argus, there's even threads by guys looking to reclaim lost water bottles
  14. Nice post
  15. Also must add the lady they interviewed on TV at one of the WP, despite suffering 3 punctures she still had a smile and positve attitude.
  16. Hotest and toughest i can recall Cyclists in L group, never saw any incidents Did not hear the usual "passing left, passing right, passing over you" or "hold your line" then swearing, most kept left Potential road hazards like potholes for being marked Spectators along the road, more than i recall in previous years Jhb residents in general for less gripping about being inconvenienced WP marshals and bike mechs along the way helping cyclists with bike problems Tanja for organising a great event, from the start to the finish Again Tanja for allowing extra time for cut off to allow for more people to complete the course and get their medals
  17. It does happen, the guy from my old cycleclub used to get his brother in law to race with his chip. Could never understand how he started before me and i would pass him but his time was faster than mine
  18. I dont believe qualifying is the answer, on TV they interviewed many cyclsist who took part only for the fun of it, a lot struggled but had a big smile, some riders in the O categories with no previous history posted very respecatble times. If one looks at the crash incidents, the crashes appear to have occured in lic and seeded categories where riders have race history but crashes still occur. A concern must be the numbers though, yesterday the last batch left around 10am, if the race was to grow bigger the batches would become bigger or the start times later,
  19. I was one of those that hit a bad patch downhill on Jan Smuts, my right hand jumped off luckily my left stayed controlled, cant blame the orgs they did their best, i saw road markings were in place for small cracks and road dents. Each will have their own experience of the race route and fellow cyclists, mine was this year i felt safer and than any previous 94.7 i've done.
  20. Even the pro's like Contador cramp, bound to happen to most sooner or later, genetics also plays a part, I've done 8 94.7's and cramped on most of them. Yesterday i did not cramp during the race but riding casually down to where my car was parked they came in droves.
  21. Citizen newspaper claims 25000
  22. The orgs have removed the metal monsters and seeded riders based on previous results to ensure congestion is minimized, the rest is up to cyclist themselves.
  23. It evens out if you did the MTB yesterday and road race today, one was 3km short, one was 3 km longer.
