  1. scalextric meets mountain biking
  2. Will post time and meeting place closer to the time.
  3. Anybody keen on taking a cruise through from Durbanville side?
  4. I was riding mixed and was in A batch daily and it was intimidating due to the pace! Most of the guys on the trail treated me like anybody else but there were compliments after some technical sections and a very kind bloke in Hermanus Pharmacy kit gave me a helping shove on 2 occassions. As a fairly competitive woman biker, the only challenges I recall from other trail users has come from the middle to back of the pack riders and noobs who would probably be equally unobliging to anybody trying to get past.
  5. ...so that's how you wholeheartedly whipped my butt every day . Ditto on an amazing event / route / organisation / ...Interesting reading our garmin HR stats after the ride - my partner and I were within 1 beat of each other on all 3 days with our average and max identical on the last day.
  6. more like: the more I train, the quicker I get drunk (not sure if that's a pro or con )
  7. it's cheaper to enter an event than to buy a new bike! Seriously, arrange to join a group or get out with a friend - makes it more difficult to cancel your training ride.
  8. Sadly, they walk (ride) among us and they frequent the Tygerberg trails too. Thankfully they're a minority and a name and shame campaign would probably help.
  9. agreed - just also steer clear of bikes with a back pedal brake - the kids battle to get the crank into the correct position to start pedalling when they ditch the training wheels.
  10. had the same problem after riding W2W in rain a few years back. Tried everything but nothing worked. I think some fabrics are also less stain resistant than others.
  11. got stem, seatpost and jockey wheels and happy
  12. I'm a little concerned over the portage too - especially the last bit which is quite steep with some big step ups
  13. Is it my imagination or is this becoming a yearly occurrence at the beginning of road racing season?
  14. Comms from race organisers: We know you are anxious to get your timing results and see your photos. Please bear with us, we are working very hard to get these ready for you and will be emailing it to you very shortly. We will also post it on Facebook (STBB MTB) and Twitter (stbbhome; #StbbMtb).
  15. Well done and great to see you out on the bike. What an awesome event, awesome route and excellent organisation! Well done STBB and to all involved
  16. I noticed I'd somehow hit the 2012 event where the 42km was R250!! R160 is much friendlier on the pocket so entry is done and dusted :-)
  17. secret location a few weeks back 2.1km for the final part of the climb, av gradient 15%, max gradient 31%
  18. Cipla Cansa buddies on Saturday - starting at D'Aria outside durbanville and doing some of the old Lion of Africa De Grendel route.
  19. Definitely going to be there - lovely area and lovely vibe
  20. Think I may have had a friday wheelset (if there's such a thing) - also have crests on a2z hubs and also ride a carbon hardtail but have had to have the back wheel straightened a few times and I'm under 60kg.
  21. come on smimby, just get on your bike and ride (and if you hate it that much, get in your car and drive to other trails). Don't get frustrated because we don't all share the same point of view. TBMTB rocks!!
  22. Until he becomes a cyclist, he will not identify with our plight to share the roads safely. In the same situation, I'd post him a family photo with a cryptic "you tried to kill a father / mother / brother... today". Maybe he can at least try to identify with the fact that we're human, just like him.
  23. We have 2 jack russells (cross a bit of pavement) - Nugget managed to catch a rat again yesterday, think we're going to rename her "The Exterminator"
  24. I braved a trip on the road bike yesterday and went down klein vissershok. While I coped fine with the murky water and a bit of a cross current, what I didn't bargain on was the size of the bow wave from the oncoming car which left me soaked (rain jacket, booties and all). Ended up getting caught in the downpour which came in a short while later anyway but it was a fun outing.
  25. I've ridden all the TBMTB trails over the last week and contermanskloof has coped the worst (Kliprug the best). It's only the higher sections of the trails which are draining well but at the moment it takes a mountain bike to even ride on the tar roads with all the mud that's ended up on them :-(
