  1. There is no cycle race in SA that can be compared to Comrades (look at the preparation commitment planning etc that one goes through, cycling you can skim on training but Comrades will catch you around 40km in. Past years went straight from Two Oceans to Panorama and last year from Comrades to Kremetart no problem, other way around I struggle cycling 80km after doing a 32km run.
  2. How do you organize 24 points-men when on Jan Smuts and Rivonia alone there are close to 40 intersections. A 21km race(Pirates) down the road had 15 Outsurance points-men manning the route besides the normal marshals
  3. The joys of watching a mother of all ****-ups then we BLAME THE MOTORIST WHEN race organizers failed all and sundry. NOT ENOUGH ADVERTISING DONE ABOUT THE RACE OR WARNING TO THE PUBLIC ESPECIALLY AREAS WHERE THERE NORMALLY IS HEAVY TRAFFIC FLOW. The few marshals on the route had black tops on no reflective jackets or flags to warn motorists Where were the traffic wardens or Metro cops(Like to know what bill was submitted from JMPD) were they officially requested for the day. I know they had around 12 Metro bikes on the route Who done the sweep to check on marshals and cops at their points before the race came down the route etc On the same morning down the road we ran the Pirates 21km race and had they had a Outsurance points-man at every major intersection. makes you think.( Cutting corners to save costs????????????)
  4. That happens(lead bike with time splits) when you give jobs to pals. More concerned about son in the bunch than feeding information to breakaway group. Phil must have asked about time splits around thirty times during stage one. Think for one moment how the stage leader felt not knowing what was happening behind him time wise.
  5. I suspect Roag running the whole license issue for CSA
  6. Strange everyone worried about the pro guy, why not the 16 year old
  7. At the end of the day race organizers are there to make money hence they host these events, they not doing it for nothing. Check the guys down in Southern Gauteng to ensure they don't spend to much on the race itself they call it an open event without categories which chews into the money.
  8. By the way tonights meeting might have Hendrik Lemmer replaced by the other Hendrik, what do we make of this
  9. All they have done is changed the road race into a hill climb race over several laps, going to be interesting results coming through
  10. Get Pantani and Michelle interested in your sport, they produce quality and a small price
  11. Simple result check you could do to disprove your reasoning,shows your talking based on emotion not fact 94.7 2010 results Taylor, Cherise % 2:45:09 673/15859 F 3/3002 1/161 1/33 35.39 van der Merwe, Charlotte:48:03 804/15859 F 16/3002 2/161 9/33 34.78 Chemaly, Sarah % 2:48:13 816/15859 F 23/3002 3/161 16/33 34.74 Burger, Lynette % 2:51:03 992/15859 F 33/3002 10/479 18/33 34.17 Stenerhag, Jennie 2:51:03 993/15859 F 34/3002 7/497 19/33 34.17 Berg, Corinne % 2:51:03 995/15859 F 35/3002 10/570 20/33 34.17 Breytenbach, Jeaun-Mari 2:51:03 996/15859 F 36/3002 4/161 21/33 34.17
  12. Darkhorse seems you have an answer for everything however in every category they rode the past two season's as Nashua members they either won the TT or road tittles at SA'and all tours on offer (check results as you say) Why all the negativity? why not offer some of your expertise to help improve the quality of SA riders especially amongst the ladies
  13. darkhorse the younger riders are been noticed hence MTN has given four of them a ride for 2011 not in the squad but directly into the team. Amoryn our ladies need to step up to the likes of Anriette Cherise Robyn etc These ladies put in the time and effort to be where they are hence the podium on a regular basis an example is Cherise riding the the rain the past 10 days whilst Anriette Lizanne Robyn Charlotte Marie and working their butts of in the PE crits this past week.
  14. One Phrase everybody seems to miss with category racing is "TEAM EFFORT". In order for rider to maintain his/her seeding the whole team will have to work as a solid unit as the other members in the squad will be knocking on the manager's door trying to get into the team. Medscheme proved this point last year in the last few races where they simply put in huge efforts to ride away as a team. Now is the time for our riders to show their worth and step up to the plate. I am sure the likes of Andrew Moolman David G(2) Jock Doug etc will want to prove their mettle against the cream of the crop in SA. Imagine what hectic racing will take place in Category 2 if above riders decide that is where they will race this year. (I am sure some guys will be working half days trying to get miles in to maintain their seeding amongst these riders) Simply plea to all those with negative feelings "let's give this a race or two before we continue shooting it down"
  15. The young ladies are all SA champs in their age categories and multiple champs in the tours they took part in 2009 and 2010 season Watch the mature ladies from Gauteng North give stick to some of the younger teams. I am sure Anriette will be matching many a man during the year if she sticks to her game plan as she did in the super vets series
  16. They are the future stars, look at their results(MTN). Anriette and Robyn at Cyclelab, Cashandrat Pro team in Pta Marissa possibly with USN
  17. Barry done a road show last year, some clubs simply never responded to his request and others stated they received late notice. Spinnekop from the rules: Category 2 Race ???? Overall Top 10 positions (it ???????????????????????????? matter whether male or female) ???? Women Top 6 (if applicable) ???? Remaining prize-‐funding up to organisers discretion Category 3 Race ???? Overall Top 10 ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???? Women Top 6 (if applicable) ???? Remaining prize-‐funding up to organisers discretion
  18. Not involved in CSA but keeping abreast due to cycling involvement of riders Categories only for licensed riders and seeding from cat (2 -4) from 0.1 to next 800-1000 positions. R75-00 riders will play in open bunches
  19. This is what we need in SA racing to improve the standard overall. No individuals allowed to race in licensed categories only licensed teams. Ladies racing will be done on a "two in one event" at all times- Top ten overall get payments then the ladies only payments for top 6 places within the same race, TV coverage normally been around a few minutes for ladies so their sponsors cannot really use that as an excuse to withdraw. Category racing is based on ability so why worry about age ( top 800-1000) licensed riders men and women taken care off, so where is the problem then, rest continue as per normal A -H bunches. What is of interest is how the race organizers handle their side of things and the distances they will cater for?
  20. Darkhorse who are you aligned with and are you speaking for yourself or on behalf of someone else. The new rules is what CSA needs to get cycling growing only issue is will the rules apply to all.Why did you not object to these changes in October already I cannot find any comment by you (positive or negative)anywhere here on the hub and we all knowhow this topic has been beaten around here. TV coverage in SA is minimal hence the sponsors don't factor that in the women's sponsorship program. The Austins like Hendrik Lemmer in their own way have made some changes to improve cycling already.(running of the office one big improvement) Hendrik has done a good job for road cycling over the past few years even though we do not agree with all his doings the overall improvement for road cycling esp SA's has proven this point What are you doing to improve the plight CSA. Please tell what you have contributed already as we surely don't know until you enlighten us.
  21. Spinnekop not bothered about the development side of things as there is simply not much one can do about the current crop of PDI's in the sport. Those with potential are riding where they should. The rest must enjoytheir time in recreational bunches. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN PDI'S GETTING SOMETHING FOR NOTHING PERIOD. Numbers been limited based on requirements means teams with big squads are going to suffer having one team riding in a category whilst the rest must move over to next category yet the other teams with less than the required numbers will be allowed to race in higher category ( This is what is unfair)EG. MTN meets all the requirements but cannot have more than the required riders in CAT1 hence the others must move to another cat. The person you mention deserves the break he got(All through hard work) and he will not disappoint those who believed in him.I think Malcolm will do the same for him as he done with Arran
  22. Thanks Christie
  23. Rules are simple yet they only apply to some. Let us not moan about it 2011 will prove this point. What we normal riders are saying is simple " Treat all riders and teams the same"
  24. Panorama Tour best event in SA currently and is the only one where your Pro's don't get all the attention, truly an event for the masses
  25. Teams not meeting minimum requirements will be allowed on the start line, (min4 riders, breakdown of the riders/ages)etc.
