  1. Got a new old bike and it has this very anoying clicking sound, so with the seatpost already at it's limit I replaced it with a longer one from my other bike and I'm using a shim to get the diameter right. Sound not gone. This only happens while sitting. I have standed on the top tube while riding to see if it is the rear shock links or something, but then the sound is gone. I have applied carbon paste between the shim and the frame as the seatpost-shim wasn't a complete fit. What's making the noise? SOunds like something is going to brake
  2. Had to pay in 37c
  3. Hey shoosh. At least I could wave at the roadies on my way home. Getting some baggies real soon
  4. no ways. I never push my bike . Was riding from about 9:00am
  5. I pump my tyres on race day in case they lost air. I'll always have coffee and eat oats. That's it
  6. Just been to groenkloof. First time in months and a big thumbs up to the new tracks. Now we don't have to ride that boring hill along the R21, but can ride all the new nice singletrack. Groennies is def one of the best mtb places in pta
  7. You have to read the threads. Just search. But I will never go back. Few points: Light Sheds mud like crazy Looks awesome on a bike 4 places to "click" in Negative: Cleats wear faster than normal shimano cleats Bearings have to be replaced from time to time.
  8. See the marks in the nylon? With cheaper shoes it's not worth the money to get the shields in my opinion
  9. It's just an aluminium insert between the shoe sole and the eggbeater. Because the eggbeaters don't have a platform they push against the shoe and can leave marks. Give me 5min to take pic and upload
  10. Christie has a point with the shields, but I don't use them. So what if the nylon gets damaged. It's not like its expensive carbon. It will only leave marks, and not affect the integrity of the shoe
  11. haha, yes they do work. I assume it's the mtb olympic shoes? Have four places for screws that are almost equally spaces in a sqaure? (Not 3 places for screws in the form of a triangle.) BTW, I've been riding cheap olympics for 4 years now(Since I started cycling), and they aren't that bad
  12. Ah, problem with online forum. You can easily be misunderstood. I'm also out to have fun, but some guys have different goals than others and have different goals for different races. I would guess that Airbender's goal is not to finish a race, but to ride well and get a good time. So maybe his mail goal for a race is not to get back home and say "I enjoyed myself while on the bike". He maybe wants to say it was damn hard, I nearly died, but I had a good time. I reached my goal and as a whole I'm enjoying it" Should this be the case, then a comment like "...but your ride is not over." may not have any meaning to him. As an example, for the 94.7 this year I wanted a good time and was riding well the first half. Then my legs gave in and I lost the group. Had to ride on my own for the remainder of the race. I really did not enjoy myself for the last half of the race. All depends on what your goals are and luckily no-one is the same, so we're entitled to have our own goals. We enjoy the sport. Some people just get their excitement from different things in the sport
  13. Few comments should can be highlighted: Every cyclist should at least try tubbies. When you puncture your race is over anyway, and the saying "but with clinchers your ride is not over" doesn't make sense. If you wanted to just ride, you wouldn't enter the race. I bought a set of tubbies few months back. Have already glued the front wheel. Rear wheel will be glued when I get time. Got 2 types of tufo sealent. The one type you put in the tyres after you get a flat. Then you just pump the tyre and it should seal.
  14. well done to a ust under 500g and not a bad price
  15. You guys are missing the big advantage of Rock Shox. They're made by the same company as SRAM. If it comes with a XX equiped bike, what can be better?
  16. Let's go to the extreme. Do you think someone that weighs 100kg riding a 10kg bike would ride a hill the same as when he loses 20kg and ride that same hill with a 30kg bike.
  17. Disagree, felt a massive difference on the hills when I got a better mtb, which weighed about 1-2kg less. Can't even feel a difference going up hill when I lose 2 or more kg's.
  18. You sure those weren't the hiking trails
  19. Last question is preference of user. I've had aerozine sl a2 since May/June this year. They are not expensive, very light and look the part. Mine is the 2 chainring setup
  20. 1. The handlebar should be bar-end compatible - It will have alu/metal inserts at the end. 2. Use carbon paste - There have been a couple of threads about carbon paste this weekend
  21. Was this a serious question?
  22. Accused as being a racist for making a statement like this
  23. It all depends. If you have a frame too large for you, you might go for a stem that puts your handlebar at a lower height, but this one may be unlikely. For a more actual reason: I use my ht for half marathon races and def prefer my no-rise stem. It gives the bike a racing geometry. It does hurt my back on the longer rides though. On a "play bike" or trail bike I want comfort and rather want to sit more upright, hence a stem with rise
  24. Have heard a couple of times about tyres being to porous to convert, but won't the Stans just seal the pores? I converted cheap jalco rims this weekend and the stans easily sealed the "part where the two ends of the rim meet each other". Also sealed a bunch of small holes/pores in the non-UST rocket rons
  25. I have pepperspray and when I remember I velcro it to my stem. Only reason I have it is for drunk people or someone trying something in the heat of the moment. If I see a bunch of dodgy looking people next to the road, I'll put my hand on the pepperspray and take the safety off untill I'm past them. If it's a "real"/pre-meditated bike jacking, then chances are nothing will help.
