  1. I often do it on the road and even more on the mtb. Gives a more aero position and a change in sitting position and resting hands or whatever. P.S. Don't do this on a downhill with a mtb
  2. any rotor work with any brake. If you don't mind the extra weight and cost, then you can get an adapter
  3. I got the oregon 550 for me dad. Nice unit. Uses barometric pressure for altitude, can calculate area etc
  4. BeegMig, I'll post some photo's when I replace mine
  5. Well said, and I fully agree. Mine lasted since April, but the three towers took it's toll on them last weekend.
  6. This actually happened beginning of the year. So, something bad happens at Eskom and immediatly it's their fault. Come on guys
  7. Def not the groupset. If you can't get it it fixed, you can bring the bike to me and I'll try to help you tune them. I've recently replaced all cables on my campag groupset and tuned everything
  8. It can be either way. Depends which way you prefer it. You get left hand rear levers, left hand front levers etc
  9. I've got a decent mtb, but commute is too far for riding the mtb everytime. To get disc brakes, means I'll end up with a mtb with slicks and road handlebars. Don't think I really want that. Could think about it maybe, cause then i need a rigid fork and disc brakes are expensive and I don't really need the disc brakes, as v-brakes would be fine
  10. That's what I said, tyre clearance is the problem. I want to use it as a commuter bike. My commute is mostly on the road, but at times it's on the pavement or gravel road. Definetly not building a hybrid. Should be cyclocross style. Normal road calipers are usually to big, so will have to look at older stuff mabye. Regarding chainrings, I'll modify some existing stuff. See how the bike rides first Did u use normal road tyres? I'm looking for something with a tread pattern for the gravel parts.
  11. How about an old mtb with rigid fork and road handlebar + STI's, or will that just look weird
  12. I'm really keen on getting a cyclocross bike, but don't want to spend the money right now. Is there any way to convert a normal old roadbike to a cyclocross bike. I assume the only problem is tyre clearance(Maybe some older bikes have enough clearance at the frame, but then the brakes is the problem). I've heard you can use normal road wheels - ? I feel happy to use the frame.
  13. This is easy bro. Contact Johan Bornman on the hub
  14. Cleats should come with the bike
  15. You can get the rydons for R1600 from some stores. They say normal retail is R2400 or something. Try cwc, but that price is still good. Although they are expensive, to me it's a good investment, seeing that a lot of normal shades can easily cost up to R1000 and more. The rudy's won't go out of fashion, the glasses have a lifetime gaurentee and they claim it can't break. Chances are that the frame won't ever break as well, but if they do then you can easily only replace the frame. This is an investment.
  16. So Iron is good for the endurance athlete. Read an article about increasing the absorption of iron in a magazine, but can't remember where. Here are some tips, as we may inhibit it with some food choices: My link Some main points: Tea and coffee reduce uptake of iron, while vitamin C increase uptake. So if you're worried then don't drink tea and coffee with meals and add some lemon to your tea to cancel the effects that tea has on iron absorption.
  17. Rock, what kind of wheels do you have? Can one use normal road wheels?
  18. Thanks Edman, don't think mine is setup related. Been riding the same setup since April on the mtb and have done 70km+ rides without any knee problems
  19. You need to give the name of the wheels. Campy wheels can range from ~R1500 to many many many thousands more
  20. Haven't got cyclocross in SA, yet. There is actually a website, for when the sport takes off. I would love to own a cyclocross bike. Apart from some cool riding, it would make the best commuter bike.
  21. Did the 3 Towers this weekend and on day 3 I had bad knee problems(On the inside of my left knee). It hurt the whole of the last stage, much more on the steep inclines when there were more resistance from the pedals). I couldn't stand and pedal at all on the last day What could be the cause of this? Some info: Left cleat was a bit worn. (Replaced on the last day) Didn't do any back to back hard training before the event Did a lot of standing climbs on day 1 and 2 Never trained on hills like those
  22. Do you really need that much carbs/calories to sustain the ride? On a 2hr ride I would take only 1bottle of 32GI and that would be enough. I did a race this weekend and did 2h30 on 1 bottle 32GI and we were racing pretty hard
  23. prob those listed on website. I think all events up to telkom satelite race that qualify as seeding events
  24. Well done
  25. Just to be clear, I'm not one of those guys. Gained 15kg in my first 6 months after school.
