  1. rather torch
  2. Well that depends if he wants to do xterra events or other offroad triathlons. Don't know your goals or situation, but I'd also recommend rather 1 bike with bigger budget for now. You'll feel the need for upgrade on both in a while. But hey, that's just me. Post this in the wanted add if you have decided
  3. Maybe add some protein during the ride. Something like a protein bar or biltong. DOn't know how practical it is, but you could also make a sandwich to take along. As far as energy drink, me and a lot of guys can recommend 32GI. You can do a search on it here on thehub.
  4. Here's the sad news: Nothing really helps (me at leat) Have tried music, watching comedy series, drama serious, movies. Think my record was 40min. Next time I'll try a cycling movie, like breaking away, but I'd rather just go for a run or something if I'm unable to go ride
  5. Ya, no weightweenie wheels and stuff. Classic strong components

If you know someone in Gauteng, let them get the one from Solomons. Huge special. What do you want to load in there still? I'm usually fine with only my backpockets
  7. No not bad idea. There's been threads on this. Outcome from a lot of guys was to not stand up and ride vigorously(hopping from one side to the other) I've done a couple of rides with my carbon on the idt
  8. So have you guys been doing some freeriding? Getting a mongoose teocali super. Very impulsive buy. Still need to get it from Franschoek up to PTA.
  9. Don't know what tubes you're using, but I've got a 100g tube. One tube can be used for like 4 times and you cut off the end of each strip.
  10. There's also bike setup and sizing isues(crankarm, stem etc) Wheels maybe. Lot's of guys just get aerobars and a forward facing seatpost for IM events
  11. Yeah, I heard you have to start out slowly. Would actually love to run barefoot. My road shoes are nearing the end of their life, so maybe get some of those
  12. Dangle, have been wanting those for some time now. You run on the tar with them? What model is that? I often run trails with lot's of sharp rocks and stuff and guy at the shop suggested against the vibram for technical trails
  13. My previous one was on for 7 months and carbon looks even better than other chainstay, and to me it's the same as a coloured tube. It's covered the whole time so who cares. Besides, it's a mtb
  14. Ah, was waiting for Dangle to to help out. Reason to run during racing season: 1. I hurt my knee 3 weeks ago and can't cycle. Had an atempt today but still not ready. So my training for 94.7 will be running and not cycling. Now if I didn't run, it would mean that I had to start out slowly and would then be very unfit for 94.7. 2. Want to work your cardio system, but don't have time? Do a 30min tempo run 3. Broke your bike and can't find parts for 2 weeks? Go for a run ...
  15. That's a good idea. Biggest reason for the tape is to keep mud and water from entering under the tube
  16. Problem comes in for guys who do road and mtb - Whole year is racing season Road and trail running - gotta train for this
  17. mmm, just saw I need a shave. Roadies will kill me when they see me out on the road.
  18. Just to calm your nerves, you can wrap tape around the last turn to secure tube, but this will take away most of the awesomeness Because of sh!tty camera, the tape looks more out of place than it actually is. Same with the wrapped around tube on the right. (Maybe not my best effort yet, but that's to blame on last nights party
  19. So you'r looking for something different? Why not make your own chainstay protector without using cable ties. 1. Take an old tube and cut in strips along the length. (width is up to you, but I found about 2-3cm is fine) 2. Clean chainstay. (See picture 1) 3. Start wrapping the tube at bb side, but wrap around itself at first. (See picture 2) 4. About 3 or 4 turns before you get to the derailleur hanger side, insert a screwdriver or flat piece of metal and wrap around the object. (See picture 3) 5. When you're at the end, insert the rest of the tube underneath the object and pull out on other side. (See picture 4 and 5) 6. Cut away the rest of the tube. (See picture 6) That's it
  20. why buy canon when you have cellphone camera why have pc when you have laptop why laptop when you have blackberry ...
  21. I don't carbo load. Would have thought that this has fallen away by now. Live low gi, race low gi. Ok, so maybe I would eat more carbs the day before. Bread, juice, whatever.
  22. Also doing the 135g selle slr thing on my hardtail with tyres normally at 2.5bar. Take it like a man.
  23. Have a look at Sigma. Got a Rox 9 a month ago. Has cadence, altitude, temp, graphs on the pc, climbing rate, inclination, hr, etc. Everything but gps and it cost me about R2k from starbike.com They have cheaper models with cadence and stuff.
  24. Bit of a useless thread don't you think. If you've read lots of topics then surely you should know how import tax work. You should also know that lots of guys buy from crc if they mentioned it in other threads. This is the age of internet buying dude.
  25. I would think that no-one can answer this question but you. Find out which is the best fit for your type of riding by actually riding them. If you're a racing snake, do a time trial and see which performs best while still maintaing comfort
