  1. Had the exact same problem, even did a lap reset at one of the markers to get in line, after 2km's it was already out again. Not sure why, cause towards the end you pretty much run in a straight line. My friend with his brand new Fenix also had the same
  2. Not sure if it has been covered, but did anybody by any chance see the delivery of the 2 mil litres of water?
  3. I am starting to think about Two Oceans Ultra race strategy: So the starting slow theory, what is slow? Is it running at say 5:40 instead of 5:20 or a 5:30 per km. If that is the case, what would it mean, by running 10 seconds/km "slower" will you start hurting at 38 km instead of 32 km? Doing my first one, so just wondering how one tackle this thing.
  4. Thanks for the offer, but they will unfortunately be a size to small for me as well.
  5. About shoes, I have New Balance 880's at the moment, looking to get a pair of Ghost 10's . Any thoughts?
  6. I agree 100% I think the idea is that in the past I just went out to fast, so tried to rather go slow. The other thing is, like with OMTOM this year, it will be my first, so not knowing at all how I will feel where one would want to do it with a bus, thinking they know how. Maybe some tips on OMTOM, for those that have done it, on strategies? At this stage I am only thinking what to do over chappies and Constantia nek, not knowing how to manage it before that.
  7. Thanks, I was also thinking of that, cause my plan was to start around 5:30/km. I recon I thought it will be good not to be on my own. I feel the nutrition was good, very happy with what I did there, so will stick tot that at this stage. The bus did make us walk, which kind of took me by surprise, cause I wasn't expecting that, I think it was around 7km, if I am not mistake, 45sec walk, and then every 7km from there. Will give that joining busses a second thought next time round
  8. Hi All I did the Peninsula yesterday. Is was my 3 marathon, and first one that I trained for. As I've been told, a marathon starts at 32km's, because that is where the pain sets in, mine started at 36km yesterday. I tried to run, but the legs was just dead, body felt fine, ie, didn't bonk or anything like that, legs just didn't want to go. I ended up with a 4:07, with lots of walking in the last 5 km's. I think before that, I was probably on track for a 3:50/3:55, but I am sure many said that before. So I am trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. 1. I am busy with training for the OMTOM 56km, so I always felt, building up to the 56km in just over a month from now, I might come up a little short in the marathon, as my longest run up to now has been the Bay2Bay 30km's and more recently a 28km a week earlier, this might be a reason. 2. I started with the 4 hour bus, I did feel that the pace was maybe a bit quick early on, around the 5:15-5:20 mark, but decided to stick with the growd, so it might have been a little fast out of the blocks. 3. At around 28km's a lost the bus, mainly due to the crowds from the half joining. I followed some other people from the club and think this is maybe where I had a 5km's that was say 10sec/km faster than I should have gone, can this make such a big difference. 4. When the pain/dead legs started, did I maybe just quit to soon, and can I say because I do not have the experience yet with a lot of marathons, I just had to push through, or is it maybe my mental strength not being there? Lastly, should I worry about the Oceans, I do have the big miles coming up in the next 3-4 weeks. Would appreciate some input from you guys on this.
  9. Great, thanks for this, those 3 are the ones I have on my short list. Appreciate the input
  10. I did a quick search, and did not find anything. Anybody here care to share if they run with headlamps and if so what do you use?
  11. Thanks for the feedback, that Salomon pack is on the shortlist, so good to hear it does the job. Also looking at the Ospreys 20L, but need to go and fit it. First Ascent also has a very nice 25L pack. Seems like the smaller the packs get, the more expensive they are.
  12. Hi All Did a quick search on this topic to see if anybody has recommendations for running commuter backpacks. Not looking for something that can house a laptop, as it seems like it is not the best thing in the world to run with you laptop. Anybody have any experience with this? This it will have to be something more snug that a cycling commuter backpack. Just looking for something to put the clothes in.
  13. We will not be going, if you are looking for an entry.
  14. Cool, thanks for the advise. So you recon physiotherapist rather than biokinetisist? I use Saucony ISO Triumph shoes, but I am due for a new pair, will have a look at the shoes as per you suggestion.
  15. Hi all Not sure if it has been covered here before. I'm looking to go see a biokineticist in die Bellville/Durbaville area. Ran quite a lot before the 2 Oceans Half, pushed a little to hard, then felt the knee a day or 2 before the race, managed to get through without to much hassle. The did some cycling, with intermittent running in between, but realized the knee is a problem. Been sick for the las 2 months, without any training, so enough rest. Still feel the knee now and again. Point is, feel like I should go and see a biokineticist to help me out, don't think I need to go see a doctor. Any names, or advise for this?
  16. In Cape Town unfortunately
  17. If anybody following this thread is looking for an Aeropress, I have one that I am not using. Will sell it for R250 if you are into it.
  18. Every year we complain about the price and every year the early bird entries are sold oit faster that you can left click on your mouse. We saw even less Epic etries up for grans on the Hub this year. Until that change, I recon they can ask what they want.
  19. Imagine this "new unknown" bike takes a victory or 2 over the big boys this season. Could it then be a case of "It's not about the bike"
  20. Castelli is not always that easy to get. Carmichael, go to Gecco at Cape Gate, probably the best range of clothing in the northern suburbs, otherwise Olympic Cycles. I love Castelli, much more than my Assos, but be ware, the stitching on the shammy do come loose after a year. This happened on all 3 of my Castelli's
  21. All I want to know is if The African Team will be sponsored by Spez next year
  22. Almost like us using 21 seconds to show a finger to someone hooting at us, making sure we built a better relationship with motorists
  23. This is why we'll struggle to win the fight http://www.2oceansvibe.com/2015/08/04/do-you-recognise-these-cyclist-blatantly-breaking-the-law/ No matter what we say, perception is king
  24. I am sure that is the next step Awesome, bit pricy for everybody to jump at, but very cool
  25. Would more people buy hardtails now? Because FS is pretty much the flavour of the month at the moment. Not sure if it is worth all the R&D for the other manufacturers?
