  1. It was the Steers I had for breakfast to give me that extra kick! Yup, it runs from Big Bay to Melkbosstrand (about 15 km in total for this new stretch). Clearly separated from motor vehicle traffic with a concrete barrier/slabs.
  2. https://www.instagram.com/p/BjO7dYZlSq4/ The (almost complete) cycle path to Melkbosstrand is great!
  3. Nice ride on Saturday morning. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bi9HfP9l32G/
  4. My recent (first) experience of selling on the classifieds was great! But I think that comes down to fair pricing (be reasonable, it's used) in comparison to buying new. As well as taking loads of photos (close-up, different angles, etc.) and adding as much detail to the description as possible. Including a reason for selling also adds authenticity imho. The only thing I didn't dig, was I enabled the option to share my details if people responded to the ad (I think there was a setting like that) and then ended up with a bunch of SMS, WhatsApp messages and PMs so it was difficult to figure out if they were all unique or if some people replied via multiple sources.
  5. What was meant to be a positive development (the cycle lane) has really turned into a steaming pile of sh*t. It would be better to just close the bloody thing down, to prevent any further theft and attacks on law abiding citizens. This is really a big fail now.
  6. 2.5 years later, almost daily use, numerous activities (running and cycling) and my original watch strap has died (I'm a little disappointed to be honest). https://www.instagram.com/p/BhbMul6FLwO/ Any recommendations for a replacement strap? I'm looking at trying something other than the original. e.g. one of these nylon straps: https://buy.garmin.com/en-ZA/ZA/p/540650

  8. Agreed.
  9. That looked flipping painful! Eina.

  11. Stoked. My PPA seeding went up to F, from J.
  12. 2018: 3086/26554 2016: 3726/28881 2013: 4078/31666 2012: 5325/29841 2011: 3820/28702 2010: 2375/28035 I know the results aren't final, but out of the 6 cycle tours I have done, this year had the fewest finishers (and probably starters, considering the ideal conditions). I wonder how big an impact last year's events had on people not entering, combined with the ongoing drought? I am sure the success of yesterday will help return it to where it was!
  13. P.S. double check the expiry date on the Sensodyne toothpaste sample from your "goodie" bag. Mine expired in January.
  14. What a great day yesterday! Perfect weather, considering how windy it has been the last few weeks/months in Cape Town. I enjoyed the new start layout in front of the City Hall and the minor route change in getting onto the N2. I was at the start at around 6:10, so I'm not sure if that helped, but there seemed to be very little congestion getting into the chutes. After starting in 2F, there was a thinned out group of cyclists very early on. I think by the time we were on the M3, there was already a mix of a bunch of different groups, etc. I seemed to find myself constantly looking for the next bunch ahead, not sure if I was just feeling overly optimistic, or if no one really seemed to be working together? There were really bad crashes though! On the decent of Wynberg Hill, into Constantia a few meters ahead of me which looked very bad. Then further down the M3, more or less opposite Tokai, another few causalities lying in the road. After Simon's Town, near Boulders (I think) a screech of tyres followed by the smell of hot rubber as more riders went down. And then I think I went past the accident involving the marshal on the descent after Suikerbossie. Really feel sorry for everyone involved, especially those who tragically lost their lives. The crashes really looked like they were down to inexperience riding in groups. I think that was also part of the reason I kept moving on, as it felt uneasy in the smaller bunches. Anyway, managed to ride a PB, as I am sure many did and finished just under 3h20 which I am stoked with. Congrats to all!
  15. Number collection, once inside the stadium was super fast at around 1pm today. Getting from Century City to Green Point, parking and walking to the stadium, then going all the way inside the stadium, collecting my number and getting back to work took just under 1.5 hours! Traffic was so rubbish getting into town, I didn't even have time to check out the expo.
  16. Think I'll head through just now, I don't feel like dealing with Friday afternoon traffic.
  17. Traffic on Fridays in Cape Town is not ideal to begin with, without the added pressure of the cycle tour expo.
  18. I thought it might be a good idea to check The Hub before venturing into town. Printing numbers on demand seemed like a good idea, but practically it clearly wasn't that well planned.

  21. What the f*ck is wrong with them? Bunch of idiots should be taught a lesson.
  22. Is it just me, or is the start still in Hertzog Boulevard? https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/16480618 I got that route off the Cycle Tour website: https://www.capetowncycletour.com/lifecycle-week/ctct/route-information/garmin-navigation/ Oh right, I see the route description mentions going past the Castle: https://www.capetowncycletour.com/lifecycle-week/ctct/route-information/route-description-and-map/ Guess the GPS route is just the old one.
