  1. Thanks all...guess it was one of those comments I heard somewhere that I wasn't listening to properly (or shouldn't have been listening to at all )
  2. I got a Mavic Crossride rear hoop with its original 9sp Mavic Crossride hub (circa 2009). I have heard that if you use a shim you can fit a 10sp cassette to a 9sp hub Anyone know if this is possible with this particular hub though?
  3. Repairable... I just had a frame repaired by Grahame Kidson in New Germany, KZN. Unfortunately this is pretty far away from you If you dont come right somewhere else, PM me for his details
  4. Tread Mag (Shaun and the boys) riding the area today, tomorrow and Wednesday. Gimme a shout and maybe you can hook up with them lol
  5. I asked Sean and he replied : We're working on a digital version currently. Expected to launch in the next couple of months. As well as a complete new website. We're stepping up our digital presence. With the site change our online subscription is down, but you can email info@treadmag.co.za with 'Subscription' in the subject and we'll sort you out. I managed to find a copy at Exclusive books...but it was the last one on the shelf
  6. Anyone know if TREAD is still around? I haven't see it on the shelves for a while. Even better, is there a digital edition?
  7. Hi all I got an oldish pair of Ritchey V4 pedals that I love using. The right-hand one needs bearing grease/service badly...I can feel the grind on every pedal stroke! The problem I have is that the cap (which needs so come off to get access to the spindle/bearings) uses a hex bolt (6 side allen key) to unscrew and the hole has been rounded so the allen key just slips I thought of drilling the cap out, but where would I find a replacement? Maybe I could use some pratleys putty and form a new allen key hole, but I am not sure if this would be strong enough to work. Any suggestions? Anyone out there with a pair of Ritchey V4's that they would sell?

  9. Hey Mbot The Sth Coast a quite a large area! I assume you lookimg more towards the lower end (since you already been to Lake Eland). Give Clearwater trails a go. I have ridden there and there are some awesome trails. Its down toward Port Edward side and not to far inland at all (the view over the gorge to the beach is awesome). http://clearwatertrails.co.za/
  10. Ohhh...remind me to read the next page of comments before replying. (Thats only a figure of speach..please dont really remind me). @ Cycho Personally I think you are one of the most taleted photographers out there. AP could learn a few things from you...and I could learn a LOT! As you say, shooting large scale is very intimidating and everyone expects that you get the perfect shot of them. I am sure you have had the same comments as I have had i.e. "Did you get a pic of me ?", "When will the pics be up?", "Why wernt you there when I .." The quality vs quantity vs price principle on photography is the same as the weight vs price vs strength principle in a frame. We all try strike a balance but very seldom find all 3 in 1. Its should be (and I say should because its a elusive principle) each and every photographers of self worth and pride that guides them to get the best possible shot. With AP (or who ever else it may be) contracting multiple photographers, this principle does fall away to an extent though. After all, the photgraphers name is not mentioned on the image...so there is less of a responsibilty to remain selective in the quality of the shot.
  11. @ sometime 1116 photos...quite correct. I would however assume that you do remember WHICH of the Karkloof events you took part in. That would reduce your search quite dramatically. That is my assumption though...I could be wrong Maybe you dont have an idea.. QuickPix does in fact give the option to search per your event number..see the "Search" option at the top of the page ? I must admit that I havent entered numbers for every event yet as its a pretty time consuming manual photo-by-photo process and editing and getting the images uploaded takes priority. You might also notice that when there are multiple distance/events on the same day, I concentrate on the shorter and more junior events. This is simply because that as far as I can decuce, the person who is riding a 60km event already has enough photos of themselves and is less likley to want another. Obviously this principle excludes high priority events like Sani2C. Heres an option. Next time you (to use your words) sitting mindlessly at work or home, rather use the time to have a look through whichever gallery you like..have a smile or 2 remembering the ride..laugh a little at the memory of how you (almost) fell. You might just find it helps. Hope the family enjoyed the pizza. @danger dassie I do appreciate you seeing the different business models and obvious difference in budget between small time one-person-only operations such as QuickPix and bigger operations such as AP. Whilst limited resources and budget is not an excuse for a cr*p photo, there is a lot to be said for having more that one photographer out on a course. Thats over and above the fact that very few of the photographers actually earn enough from photography to sustain a living (myself included)..we all have jobs outside of photography and have to factor that in. As you have also said..and talking from experiance...it is HARD work and not simply a matter of pointing the camera in the right direction and hitting the shutter button. @ Stretch Again...fully in agreement. The memory of an event is always better than a photo. There are going to be things that stand out for you when there was no photographer in sight and even if there was, you might find that you prefer that the memory remains yours and yours alone. The OP was about the fact that pricing was not in relation to what you were getting offered..and I think that principle still stands.
  12. Fully agree with Stretch...actionphoto is way to expensive. I have been taking photos at some of the local events for over a year now and have met some of the contracted photographers and it really is bulk photography...if you lucky the photographer who happens to be at the spot is slightly creative and tries to do something other than the classic head-on-same brackground-for everyone-point and shoot shot. This isnt ness. only the photographers fault though...am pretty sure they get a very very general brief (ie come back with x amount of shots) and when shooting like that there isnt much room for creativity. Have a look at www.quickpix.co.za for some affordable shots
  13. Thanks TNose
  14. I am heading down to help out with some of the service packages being offered...problem is I got no idea how to get to Jolivet lol! Tried Google Earth but doesnt quite pinpoint the where the race village is..and getting lost doenst appeal to me. Any one got directions available from Pmb to Jolivet stop over?
  15. Throwing the Axis A10 full suss into the mix now. That a lot of bike for your bike... Not totally convinced on the frame, but the Reba does tempt me KORE cockpit and whellset...any comments ? The Momsen is good value for money (esp with that ZTR wheeset) but I dont like the look of the frame..that curve on the down tube isnt for me. The GT is a nice looking bike and frame feels good on a test ride around the parking lot (although this doesnt say much) Which Scott are you referring to ?
  16. Finally making the move to 29er...and have some options to choose from. I am not a race snake nor a aggresive rider to doubt I need to go the full suspension route. Am comparing the following since they all come in at around the same price... GT Zaskar Elite 9R vs Merida Big.Nine TFS XT-D (with a Fox instead of the Recon Silver) vs Momsen AL529 What comments and opinions on the above ?
